Hi folks,
Been a long time since I've come on the forum here. Anyway, a friend and I started an acoustic project this year called Under This Cold Sky. He does keyboards, mostly string parts (I wish we had a real violinist) and I do the lead vocals and guitars. Here is our Facebook page if you want to check us out: www.facebook.com/utcsband
We have three rough demo songs posted on our BandPage tab, and over the next few months we'll have a full album up.
Thanks!
Steve
Hi folks, here's the link to my Youtube channel, I have some new stuff up, feel free to check it out if you're into solo acoustic music. www.youtube.com/sth550
Peace,
Steve
Does anyone know where I can buy a pickguard for an Epiphone G-400? The pickguard on this guitar is different than the standard "full-face" SG pickguard; this one is just on the right side of the pickups. I can't seem to find them online anywhere...guitar looks like this: http://backstage.musiciansfriend.com/Gu … 91.product
Thanks daddycool, we've kind of decided on doing half and half usually, half of the music instrumental, half with vocals. It all depends on the song.
Christmas music....solo arrangements
Hi folks, I thought I'd share a little instrumental piece my band and I wrote. It's our only original so far (we just formed as a band in September). If you enjoy Trans-Siberian Orchestra, then you might like this one. It has it's share of flaws, but my hope is that most of them aren't too noticeable.
It's entitled "Darkest Evening Of The Year (December 21st Song)", as you can see on the video:

Hey, you know daddycool, to quote Rocky, "If I could, I would". Actually, these ones were all intended to be instrumentals, but if I sang I would definitely do some songs with vocals as well. Thanks though!
Hey thanks guys, that guitar is my new baby. It's a Takamine EG523SC Jumbo acoustic-electric. I got her this summer after an unfortunate incident involving an amp falling out of the back end of a van wrecked my old acoustic (which cost me $50 new, so I wasn't too disappointed).
As far as the sound I'm getting, I'm running the guitar through a delay and a flanger into a Crate solid state amp. Those who know good amplified acoustic tone would shoot me for using such an amp, but for now it's what I have...
Hey everyone, I've been gone from Chordie for quite a while. I've been working on lots of music, and here's two original acoustic pieces I wrote and just recorded. Hope they sound all right. The Youtube link is below.

Thanks all,

My volume control went bad on me...as I was playing and adjusting it I could hear a crackling sound and it would cut out for a second, then turn back on. Finally it just quit working at all. I read that this is a pretty common issue with newer Ibanez guitars like mine. Should I just take it to my local shop?
Russell_Harding wrote:Nice job Stephen standing all alone before an audience takes a lot, with a band if it dont go well you have each other to fall back on I liked the presentation and the tuning was not that noticable to distract from your performance including the baby well done
I had recruited two different drummers to accompany me but the obscure time changes (I wasn't paying attention to time, I was just playing) threw them off.
Strange, beautiful music. Nice job with it!
This is an interesting solo piece I came up with and played at my school talent show back in December. It's in a gym, so obviously the sound isn't great, although I thought the guitar was easier to hear than people who sang. Pardon the baby at 2:04...and the rowdy hoodlums in the background applauding every now and then. The bottom two strings went horribly out of tune after I did that big slide up the bottom E string at the end...I don't think anyone other than me noticed, but other guitarists will undoubtedly pick it up. I had just put new strings on the day before hand.

Mmmm Ibanez guitars are a ridiculous value for the price. I payed $300 for my RG (was on sale, it's $350 normally) and (this is just my opinion, most people will say that their guitar is the best guitar) it outplays just about any other guitar in that price range. The only other brand I've seen of comparable quality is ESP or Jackson. Course, it all depends on what feel you like...thick neck? Thin neck? 21 frets? 24 frets? Wide fretboard? Narrow fretboard? Big frets? Little frets? Whammy? Fixed bridge (like mine, easier to keep in tune)? Go to a guitar shop and play a couple different brands, that's the best way to see what you like.
$45 of iTunes cards got me some fresh new tunes to jam to in the car...also got a phone and a Wii...I buy everything I need for guitar on my own, so there was no need for Santa to bring any guitar accessories.
The riffs from Smoke On The Water (Deep Purple) and Radar Love (Golden Earring?) are pretty similar.

So I can download the songs directly off of my myspace page?
Oops, forgot, there's a slight problem. First of all, two of the songs on my myspace page got erased from my Audacity files when my computer got a virus a while ago. Secondly, the CD burner doesn't work on my computer, so I have to use a friend's. How can I get the songs that are only found on my myspace page onto Windows Media Player?
I have some songs on my myspace page that I want to put onto a CD, and I was wondering how I can do this. They're all MP3 files, so there has to be a way I can do it. Thanks.
Some fun songs to play... www.myspace.com/stephenhooper
There's still a few spots where excess noise and static lurks about, I will be taking care of that later

The latter moreso because it is short and complex. I recommend you find a way to layer some lyrics after listening to the CSNY one to see what I mean. That one in just about 2 minutes is so powerful. I hope you'll take that as a big compliment as intended.
Steve
Thanks much, I'll have to take a listen to the second one.
I did listen to the CSNY song, loved it. I don't think I'll be adding lyrics to this one, maybe on a future project though.

You don't need to hear how good your piece is to come up with more like it.
You got the music in you.
Well Done Sir

Thanks much, I just want some feedback from more experienced players so I can improve on the next one.
ctech wrote:Hi Steven ,I liked the first part, got me a bit when you went into the strumming, found it to much of a contrast, overall thought it was good, nice sounding guitar.

Thanks, I was a little apprenhensive about including the strumming/tapping part in there, but I wanted to have a sort of break in between the melodies.
An original acoustic solo song, please comment because this is my first "real" piece of music I wrote and recorded and I'd like to come up with more.
