On a semi-serious note, I was listening to a local college station and they played, "Away in a manger" with steel guitar playing the notes and acoustic guitar playing rhythm and background chords......it was beautiful!

Well, if God expects me to play a harp, to heck with that, I'm still working on my guitar skills....so there.

I've been saying the same thing!  Enjoy!  Oh by the way, the new Mayan Calendars are out, the only problem is that they wreak havoc on your walls when you try to hang them up.  wink

Thanks, I couldn't see that img thingy while posting, but, then again, it's the end of the day and after a little wine to salute the end of the world..it's  all good.  Thanks for fixing that!  Now, I'll go practice REM's "It's the end of the world as we know it".  Btw, did you know that Oreo cookies, resemble the Mayan calendar!!!  LOL

A delightful spoof of depressing Irish Ballads:  <grin>

Most I ever got was the dreaded "BRAIN WORM".  <shudder>  That's bad enough!!

A few weeks ago I was heading home from work and was listening to a local college station (91.3 WUNH)  and heard the most depressing series of quasi-folk-blues tunes by singers/bands I had never heard before and hope to never again.  I changed the channel in the middle of the third tune.  It was not only depressing lyrics, but, bad out of tune singing and playing that grated on my nerves.  If it was done for affect, it worked.

There are a lot of tunes that I like/love that could be considered depressing.  Gordon Lightfoots "Ballad of the Yarmouth Castle", and I love "Don Quixote" for it's symbolism.  But, a lot of folk tunes play on tragedy for poetic reasons.  Judy Collins, "Pretty Polly" being one.

The Beatles loved B Chords.   A lot of their tunes have one or more B's in them.

B chords still baffle me!  But, I'm getting there, slowly, painfully OY

You are exactly right Greatbigdave.  There are no firm rules when making a particular chord.  As you say, if you can make it work with more or less fingers and it sounds good, you are right.

Thats what my guitar teacher also says.  If it works, it works.  More then a few chords have alternative fingerings, it's just finding out what works for you.  As Duke Ellington said, "If it sounds good, it is good."

I agree.  I just heard over an alternative radio station, Bela Fleck and the Flektones playing a "Charlie Brown Christmas".  It was awesome.  I love classical christmas tunes on guitar.

As for certain tunes I loath and despise....Little Drummer Boy tops the list.  And now added to it, is the car commercial that uses, "It's the most wonderful time of the year."  As in; "It's the most wonderful sale of the year."

Thank GOD for mute buttons.  GGGRRRRRRRRRR

That car commercial is for NISSAN,I hated it the minute I saw it

All I'm going to say, I WILL NEVER buy a nissan car, EVER.   The Subaru "summer" commercial is also on the list of ads that deserve extermination.
