It sounds like the the nerves are being squeezed by surrounding tissue that has become enflammed(up on the underside of your forearm, around the bits that move back and forth when you move your fingers), this could cause tingling and numbness. I had something similar in my right hand that lasted for a few weeks, but that was because I couldn't stop playing guitar and allow the inflamation to subside smile

If this has only suddenly started happening after 30yrs of playing, then it might be worth consulting a doctor though.

Greetings everyone,

         This past sunday was the first succesful attempt at playing with the church band. I pointed my amp towards me and played on. I found that with the amp pointed towards me, it was easier to roll the volume knob and find the right notes to play, they turn the knob all the way up and play along with the band.

And people could hear me too!!! Well, the front row of the audience could hear me.... =p
But it's a start!!!

Fella, I'm really pleased for you! Keep right at it and keep on rocking my man big_smile

perhaps you had your amp pointing at them? Does that sound too obvious? :E

But you may have the old problem of everyone wants to be heard over everyone else! (used to have that as a bass player...lol)

I tried those myself, and I can hear the last slide to the 9th but it's quiet. What song is this lick from?

I prefer the sound of an acoustic, thats the only reason smile

Sounds like it's one pick and a swift hammeron,pulloff, and slide back to the 9th

The second one is pick while on the 4th fret, hammer on the 6th fret, pull off to the 4th fret and then pull off to the 3rd fret. Sounds difficult to me as I'm a noob when it comes to picking!

Just quickly;

h = hammer on
p = pull off
/ = slide up
\ = slide down

Hope this helps smile

I'm sure they'd happily put together some tabs or sheet music for you fella. Stick at it though, I wish I had the guts to play in a band! smile

A mint condition original Gibson Hummingbird please smile

Dude you are being really harsh on yourself. You've actually got the balls to go and play with your Church band and I think thats brilliant!

As Kahuna said, it sounds like you need to tune your guitar to the same tuning as one of the other guitar players. Drop D might be the issue here if the guys aren't tuned in Drop D(I'm not sure what the standard tuning is for gospel/christian music).

At first glance, it sounded to me like you just need to put your guitar to standard tuning, and then make sure you tune string by string with either another guitar or the organ/piano.

Does the band provide you with tabs or sheet music?

Brown eyed girl?

If I had $1500 I'd probably buy a Gibson Hummingbird....never played one but it's like my dream guitar :E

lol power to you detman smile

I find solice in playing, it's food for the soul

I started learning guitar after I got ditched by my long term girlfriend. I think it was some kind of attempt at wooing her back, play her a few songs etc etc.....didn't work!

Now my guitar is my baby, and I love her so much......she'll never leave me! lol

heh tongue It does sounds so much better than anything I've ever played! But mines only a lower end martin really, have a look at the reviews for the DX-1, it tends to come out as being one of the best in it's class....and it's a Martin smile

I have a DX-1(£425), it has like an "un-finished" finish with a red mottle scratch plate. The first thing I noticed about it was how gorgeous is sounded. It has a set of martin strings on it which seem to be harsh on the fingers, but I'm getting the action lowered on it in a week or so, so that'll probably help. It's basically a really tasty guitar. But you say your's is 30yrs old, surely that must sound pretty nice?

Hey, I'm 25 and I'm from Essex too (in Colchester) I've been playing for 6months now and I'm definately addicted to playing the guitar. I just love music!

I recently treated myself to a Martin DX1, this fella is gonna be with me a long time, it sounds so gorgeous!
