Yep, rest in peace, Toby

“Like go for a walk, say a little prayer
Take a deep breath of mountain air
Put on my glove and play some catch
It's time that I make time for that
Wade the shore and cast a line
Look up a long lost friend of mine
Sit on the porch and give my girl a kiss
Start livin', that's the next thing on my list.”

this girl is really rally unique - her octave changes are superb

Well it is mid-summer down here in NZ, so while you guys up north are hibernating during a very cold winter, life is all abuzz down under. Nothing like sitting outside under the old plum tree of a balmy evening havng a wee strum and a beer.

1976, I was 21, and my university flatmate gave me his Angelica acoustic guitar because he was leaving to take up a "real" job, and didn't want it any more. Nice guitar at the time, and the first song I learnt was Donovan's "Colors".

Wow, such an inspiration and talent. Wish I could pick like her, but as you say it takes a huge amount of practice and drive to get to that level.

Absolutely awesome to watch, let alone listen to. I mean, how does one even get close to learning how to play like that. Reminds me of movie August Rush.

Merry Christmas from down the bottom of New Zealand. Mid summer here with a very pleasant temp at 27 deg C, but too hot for cooking turkey. Mostly cold food outside and plenty to drink of course.

Dunedin, New Zealand, city in the far south of the country, population around 125,000. Name comes from Dùn Èideann, the gaelic name for Edinburgh, Scotland, from where most of the original settlers came early 1800's.

I heard the Arsenal football/soccer fans singing the other day:

"Mourinho is a wanker,
A wanker, a wanker,
Mourinho is a wanker,
A wanker is he."

That could be slander, but only if Mourinho could prove it wasn't true LOL

Its always the high G on my 12 string that breaks for me, I usually play it as an 11 string for a while, till I get around to re-stringing.
Hi guys, havent bin on here for quite a while, have an arthritic left hand which makes it hard to hold down the strings.

I have never been in any of the New Zealand armed services, but I know that NZ would  have become part of Japan if the Americans hadn't fought back and won in WW2. Thanks  April 25 here is ANZAC day when we honour our war dead.

Hey thanks guys...good to know there's products out there for this. Like Jets I'm a bit wary of the side effects of prolonged taking pharmaceticals. Apparently diet can affect it as well. Some things that are very acid like tomatoes or oranges can aggravate arthritis, so might have to sacrifice some things.

We really a bunch of old farts, arent we!

Well it appears I am experiencing a guitar players worst nightmare. I recently started getting stiffness and pain in my finger joints, and seems i'm under attack by the evil arthritis. Some times  I can't wrap the fingers of my left handle around the neck enough to form chords. Quite depressing since playing the guitar is a very enjoyable and essential part of my everyday relaxation. Is anyone else out there experiencing this, and what is the best treatment for it. I hate taking drugs, but it may be the only way through this. I hear there are natural remedies as well but don't know who to believe on that stuff. Welcome your ideas.

Very sorry for your sad loss, Jeff

Temperature also appears to be a factor when tuning. Tuning cold strings can sometimes lead to slight variations of pitch when they warm up, so i always give my strings a workout before tuning.

Split Enz were an iconic New Zealand band of the 1970's. Saw them live a few times, very theatrical, a bit like early Genesis. The Finn brothers were the core of the band and they went on to form Crowded House in the 80's. The Finns are still making music today, either together or separately.

Happy birthday! That is one fantastic way to commemorate the day - a generous spirit in music is very infectious and I'm sure your student's will "pay it forward" to others one day.

With a dodgy name like that you are just asking for trouble, hahaha. It sounds like one those b rated comedies where the con posing as plumber rolls up and offers you the deal of the century and you fall for it hook, line and "plunger", while he burgles you house!!

I'm sure it wasn't like that but the name doesn't instill confidence!

Sounds like we should all just pay Nela to fix these problems - seems to know what he's talking about!
