Make sure your fretting hand is in a comfortable positition and be sure to have your nails cut down. Yes it will be weird and difficult at first...but as long as you have proper technique (you say you are arching) then it will come...it takes a while for your fingers to stretch and your muscles to build up in your hand. you have never used your muscles like this before. After a while the tips of your fingers will become flat and you will easily form chords. Everyone goes through it...Practice every other day, that way your hand has a day to rest and build muscle. Also it will be more difficult depending on your guitar...how much room is between your guitar strings and the fret board? If you can put a coin between the two and still have room then the strings will likely be more hard to press than it should be.

If you like originality and absolute brilliance than Jack White is a god. Also for the older bloggers...every guitarist from the greatest band ever...Steve Gaines, Allen collins, Gary Rossington...geniuses all of em.

Play that with different patterns and speed and mix in Am Em and F and it sounds really cool.

Try out this exercise and be sure and use the correct fingering for each note.

1= Index

2= Middle

3= Ring

4= Pinky

For this exerice the fingering and the fret position line up.Start out SLOW and work your way up to a faster pace. After a couple weeks your fingers on both hands will do it without you having to tell them to. The best way to get good quick is to learn the fundementals instead of trying to play songs. Also you should start out practicing basic easy chords (Em,Am,etc.) and working on changing from one to another.

Thanks but let me ask you this...you say never stop moving your hand but is it ok the change pace in the strum? Like i dont mean change pace somewhere in the song that differs from the way it was played at the beggining ...i mean that actual strum have some quick stroke followed by slower ones...or vice versa.

i have been playing a couple years now..self taught. i can play just any chord there is which means i can play any song out there. the problem is that when i play a song it doesnt sound the same to me as when other more expirenced players play it. i beleive it is because i cannot strum as they do...to make it worse i cannot pick up on the patterns that they are playing...any advise?
