If you already have an acoustic guitar, Don't get an electric guitar (until you learn acoustic first) thats the best advice I can give you. Playing an electric guitar is easy, therefore if you learn on an electric and want to play an acoustic later, you won't be able to...not well anyways. Playing the acoustic will strengthen your fingers and give you the feel for the frets.

How long did you say you've been playing???

I don't wanna sound rude here, but all my friends who've been playing the guitar for years tell me that the best advice they can give a beginner is to learn to play the electric guitar first.

Not only will this give the 'learning stage' a boost, but it will also help toughen up those fingertips until you start to play the acoustic guitar, which can save lots of frusteration in the end.

So tell me...who am i to believe?

Sooooo... tell me...

what's the use for scales, if one's only going to be basically playing chords only as well as mostly playing-by-ear.

I've been playing for almost a year now, and i see myself as 'advancing on' and i haven't yet played or taught myself one scale. And know what else??? I haven't run into any problems as to that not learning scales limits my playing...

Hmmm...???

I like the idea of MercyMe. They've got some nice christian songs, from all the suggestions given, they'd probably be the one i'd try out.

My guitar is a yamaha acoustic. And though i love playing this guitar, i wouldn't mind being able to use the electric too. But yeah, acoustic would still be my number one choice.

I'd really love u guys if u could suggest some easy guitar picking songs i could learn first off.

I've kind of been doing most of my practicing by ear and have taught myself 'whiskey lullaby' and 'walk the line', but i can't seem to be able to think of another easy one that i could learn.

I know there's tons, but i just can't 'find' them to be able to apply them to the strings of my guitar.

Help anyone?
