Great shot of you and the White Falcon, JJJ. I suppose you'd need a very wide-angle lense to get you in a shot will all your guitars, but your Gretsch is a real beauty.

Thanks for the "Thanksgiving Card", Bill ... so typically thoughtful of you. Here's wishing you both good health in the very near future.

That's incredible, UJB! I think we all knew that playing music requires a lot of concentration, but I never knew it went to this level.

Terrific post!

Hi John ... thanks for posting these links.

Fingerstyle is something I've come to enjoy more and more, and am making it my "winter project" to practice at it. It seems a great many of them use the DADGAD tuning, so I might have to set a guitar up in that mode, just for this sort of thing.

I was also thinking of trying a SpiderCapo (http://www.spidercapo.com/) so I could simply tune at EBEABE ... ever use one of these? What do you think?

Just wanted to thank you for piquing my interest even further!

It's your guitar, NELA. And unless I missed something, that means you have the final say, regardless of anyone else's opinion. If you're uncomfortable loaning it, then by all means ... be comfortable!

Love it, Beamer ... absolutely love it! Just the right amount of self-loathing and in-your-facedness.

Cool words and even cooler plays on words. You've got a chord in there called "K" that I'm not familiar with ... what does that look like in tablature?

Way to go, Beamer ... Happy NGD!

The Squire/Fender and Epiphone/Gibson comparisons get redundant. If it plays and sounds good - and above all you're happy - who cares about brand.

Happy NGD, Joey. A working Guild for $50 is a steal ... hopefully repairs can be done without much cost.

We are constantly being bombarded with messaging designed to make us live beyond our means. The bait is always the promise of something more than we have now, as if some "product" could fill the emptiness of a human soul. I sometimes despair that so many are chasing this illusory satisfaction.

SADNESS REIGNING

They promised happy satisfaction
They promised a joyful reaction
They promised peaceful resolution
And completely failed to deliver.

CHORUS:     We are the willing deluded,
        We are the blindly excluded
Lab rats on a wheel we chase,
        Only to find sadness reigning.

Civil suit lawyers seed our need
They lay blame to feed their greed
For a generous cut he'll make 'em bleed
No matter how stupid, it's never my fault

CHORUS:     We are the willing deluded,
        We are the blindly excluded
Lab rats on a wheel we chase,
        Only to find sadness reigning.

The gal in the ad tried it and smiled
Like she'd just birthed her first born child
But it's only shampoo, and all it can do
Is make your hair clean at best.

CHORUS:     We are the willing deluded
        We are the blindly excluded
Lab rats on a wheel we chase
        Only to find sadness reigning.

We sing love to all, sing peace on earth
Recite sappy sentiments drunk in our mirth
Hoping to believe in our own self worth
But fear echoes in our hollow emptiness.

CHORUS:     We are the willing deluded,
        We are the blindly excluded
Lab rats on a wheel we chase,
        Only to find sadness reigning.

This is written / structured as song, but I think it's better read than sung.

Steven Wilson    "The Raven that Refused to Sing"    Deutschland, 2013

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SZtZIUgY0IM

Although Porcupine Tree hasn't formally announced dissolution, they haven't released an album nor toured since 2011, with their last work being "The Incident". Frontman Wilson has been pursuing his solo work, and has released several albums since. In September of this year, he received 3 awards in London at the Progressive Music Awards, including Album of the Year for "Hand. Cannot. Erase." His imagination and sound creativity continue to amaze audiences, and this beautiful / haunting work reminds me of the poetry of Edgar Allen Poe, and is the title track from his 2013 album.

This is a cool style, right? Here's another great one in the genre ... Spencer Elliott:

I don't know why so many of them favor the fan-shaped fret design. Others have the 7th string (a bottom "B") that makes a lot of sense for a lot of reasons, like when the bass player doesn't show up! lol Rondo sells one for $425 (www.rondomusic.com/product8066.html) but it's not a purchase I'd consider unless my playing gets a whole lot better.

Hi TIG ...

I sent them an email on Monday, but haven't heard back yet. They've had some tough slogging in recent months, so I'm sure many of us share your concern for them.

Just picking my jaw up also ...

Luca's only 24 years old (born in 1991) which makes this all the more impressive. They all use alternate tunings, with DADGAD being the more common amongst them. They're a breed apart, to be sure, and I just love this style of playing. The need for werewolf claws on the right hand would freak some people out, but that seems to be a prerequisite to play this style effectively. Here's another beauty by Stricagnoli:

We probably all "aspire" to play at a certain level of ability, and have favorite styles. I've been absorbed by the guitarists in the fingerstyle genre for the last several years, and have started taking some micro-steps in that direction. Here's one of many that are too good for words:

Cleverly written, Peatle, as EB has already said. The sentiment expressed reminds me my younger days ... glad they're over.

Mostly Autumn    "Tonight"    Zaterdag, Netherlands, 2012

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fRq3UT3MmY4

With the departure of lead vocalist Heather Findlay in 2010, backing vocalist Olivia Sparnenn stepped into the lead role. As this piece shows, Olivia's vocal ability is first-rate, and she later married lead guitarist Bryan Josh in 2013. I'd like to hear Sparnenn attempt Pink Floyd's "Great Gig in the Sky". There's not many that can pull it off, but she'd have a bonafide crack at it IMHO. These guys bring an element of "gentle power" to the Prog Rock genre, and it's easy to see why they're still going strong since starting in 1995.

Great song with a great message!

Unfortunately the nightmare we seem to be living in, doesn't much resemble the dream these gents are singing about. Just the same, it's something we should all strive for every day ... and we can still enjoy this great music.

Thanks again, Badeye!

I wonder the link for this "Chordie Map" thread could be pinned to the homepage somehow? If there was a small world map featured, with the question "Where are you?", perhaps more Chordians would step up.

Just a thought ... this is too good a project, and deserves to grow much bigger.
