Great discussion ... good idea, EB. Lately, I've been listening to a lot of music from two different styles in particular:

Fingerstyle Guitar:  Don Ross, Spencer Elliott, Luca Stricagnoli, Michael Chapdelaine, Calum Graham, Antoine Dufour, etc.

Prog Rock:   Mostly Autumn, IQ, Unitopia, Echolyn, Believe, Moongarden, Gryphon, etc.

I am soooooo glad we don't have to rely on the radio airwaves to find good music. Their focus is so narrow that they virtually ignore 98% of what's available.

Glad you liked it, Bill ... thanks!

You referred to Ian's deformed pinky on his right hand, which must have made learning the flute interesting. By some curious twist of fate, I dislocated the same finger playing basketball in the mid-80's, and it's almost identically shaped to Ian's now. Another tidbit for the observant is that Ian is wearing his clan's tartan in this performance:

Jethro Tull   "No Lullaby"    New York, 1978

This was perhaps my favorite era for Jethro Tull, and the lads really did put on a great show and enjoyed themselves in the process. The energy and enthusiasm for what they were doing comes across loud and clear. It's a great song, and the flute solo at the end was completely unique to Tull ... enjoy it.

Good sing, Phill, and well performed. I personally like songs that are well-developed, even though that might be a performance obstacle ... depends on the audience, I guess.

It's been unseasonably mild here in Nova Scotia, with today likely to top 10-deg C (50-deg F). The forecast shows for temps dropping to the freezing mark by Tuesday, but no real snow to speak of. Of course we're all holding our breath, because this is how winter started last year ... then we got hammered!

Hahahahaha ... this is just way too much fun! Love the queasy segment with the "fries 'n' gravy", or as we now call it "prehistoric poutine".

Thanks for the grin!

Beautiful song, A1S, absolutely beautiful. It reminds me a bit of some of Neil Young's early work in the late-60's and early-70's ... except that you sing a LOT better than he ever could.

Bravo!

That's impressive guitar work ... great post, Bill.

Gotta say though, that I can't imagine the dripping beer would have done his strings or his guitar any good.

I agree ... great work, and keep the nonsense coming. It reminds me a bit of Lewis Carroll's "Jabberwocky".

Love it!

Thanks for the kind words, everyone.

And Phill ... I really appreciate your putting some chords to it. I stink at that as I've mentioned before. I know I am a pessimistic person, although I think these kinds of thoughts are based on observation and not imagination. There's just so much sadness in the world, and I find it hard to ignore.

Atta boy, TIG! I started laughing at the outset, but you really brought this home with a terrific message ... very good. Twerking? lol

Another guitar? A ceramic kangaroo? A motorcycle helmet? All in one day? You must be absolutely knackered from all the excitement! And you probably have the most photographed bread machine, in the history of bread machine photography.

Seriously ... nice instrument, JJJ, and congratulations!

Great pick, Badeye ... for any day of the week. I would have liked to see more of them playing and less dancing, but that's just me. The guy finger-picking the Les Paul was pretty good, too!

Good discussion, BG ... thanks for the link. I like the sound of my amp as is, so will stick with the 12AX7 and 6L6 combo when the time comes to replace them.

Happy NGD, Dino! I hope you get as much enjoyment out of your Tak as I do with mine. Here's the photo from Takamine's site:

Yes    "South Side of the Sky"    Los Angeles, 2004

Here's another clip from the "Yes Acoustic" DVD, a short concert that was televised to a number of theatre audiences across the US in 2004. They've done some large-than-life versions of this piece (and others) in various concerts, and it's always interesting to see how a lot of this material works in a more organic format. Pianist Rick Wakeman demonstrates his amazing touch as the main feature of this song ... hope y'all enjoy it.

Have to confess I never followed them, or the whole "grunge scene" if that's an appropriate classification. But the samples you've posted reveal a terrific talent, and one that left us too soon.

Thanks BGD ... that's where I intended to post this, but got it wrong. Here's a pretty good article I found about tubes from Sweetwater's site:

I looked back several screens to see if this had ever been raised and couldn't find anything.

Are there any symptoms to listen for, when an amp's tubes are going? Or do they just quit? Is there anything I'd be able to look for just by giving them a visual check? Everything seems to be working okay in my Peavey, but it's just something I'd been wondering about. If it's any help, it has 3 - 12AX7's and 4 - 6L6GC's in it.

Any help would be appreciated!
