Singing with your own voice is one thing. Resonances take place in sinuses, cavities, and I am always embarrassed to hear my voice on a tape, like shooting a video. The voice is completely different in sound. And: I think it takes time before you are used to your voice.

Re: "Lefty" electric guitars (6 replies, posted in Electric)
Dear SouthPaw41L
Your theory is very interesting, and probably you have a point. The only question is: if you try this out, isn't it against nature, or are these kids really capable to play righthanded?
I know that if you drop your kid for 2 years in China from the age of 3 up to 5 years old, they will speak Chinese. It is probably a silly thing to write this, but ARE THERE CHORDIANS who learned to play "flawless" with their right hand.
To know more about left versus right, there is a very interesting article on wikipedia: google: left hand.

Topic: humbuckers (1 replies, posted in Guitars and accessories)
I have 2 Gibson Les Paul Customs, and one I was able to buy for $2000, an original 1968 custom.
Gibson decided to start the production again of the Custom.
CASE:
having already a custom, and having the "black beauty" with humbuckers, I decided to change these humbuckers and to replace them with P-94 single coils; bringing back my custom in 1952-1953, where the first customs had a black P-90.
PROBLEM:
They changed the humbuckers (I even had to wait 2 months for the bridge pick-up, and THAT sound: humbucker - single coil, was the best I ever heard) by P-94 single coils.
I received the originals in a box, visible, and like they were, because I heard stories were they change your old humbucker by another, without notice.
So, these humbuckers never changed place. I had to go to Hospital for 3 weeks, when I came back, my girlfriend was gone, NO PROBLEM, we did see each other for 15 minutes? Fact is I can't go upstairs on the attic, because of medical problems, I didn't find my humbuckers.
All together, belonging to the Custom, 1968!!! and first year of reproduction, I am almost 100% sure that they were throwed away.
CAN SOMEBODY HELP ME TO FIND A SET OF 1968 Custom humbuckers, or give me a site.
I don't know if those were PAF's.
I really would appreciate some help to try to buy the same humbuckers.
Thanks

Topic: luthier (1 replies, posted in Electric)
I am asking this again, because it is a fascinating subject: are there places where you are able, working under the watching eye of a luthier, to build your own guitar?
Upyerkilt is it true that you have a place or places, in Scotland, where you have the opportunity to build your personal guitar.
I read in a guitar magazine that (I think it was in Scotland), you can have a holiday, B&B and sleeping included, but only for 5-10 people, where you pay a certain price, also dependant from the wood you use, the owner, a luthier is helping you to build a guitar. You choose your wood, I don't know if it's already prepared, but at least, you can use his material to cut your piece of wood, to make 1, 2 or 3 "holes" for your humbucker or single coil, also lacquer your guitar.
Second, the use of woods, or better the choice of wood.
Oak is to solid and heavy, but CAN IT BE USED as body?
I am obsessed by this topic, so my apologies.

Re: lefthanded people with right handed guitars. (22 replies, posted in Electric)
Yes sweetie, because of a temporary "without women" period, I had to hug my guitar.
I even sleep with the guitar, and our siblings, are a human head with 3 ears on both sides, to tune my strings, the body is 100% guitar, and the legs are shorter and smaller, but are human.
Difficult to play, that's for sure.
So dear kath, you wrote that a luthier has to work on it.
The old "chordians" will probably remember the fact that, writing with your left hand was an act of the devil (no joke), I am right handed, but I remember me, at school, speaking of the early and mid sixties, that some teachers strapped and tied your left hand with 1 purpose: you have to use your right hand. A lot of artists, like Paul McCartney, are able to play with both hands. Sir Paul is the owner of the absolutely not affordable GIBSON LES PAUL STANDARD 1959, and that model he owns is "righthanded". Before we talk about luthiers, I just wanted to know, talking about a guitar with 3 tu,ers on one side and 3 tuners on the other side, so I don't see the need to change all this, you just put your strings, but you start with the thin E-string, meaning: your guitar is tuned but the strings are in reverse. If you start playing, being left handed, head, neck, strings are OK. The only things that will be different are: the pick guard who is at the other side, and the switch and volume and tone regulators.
When you are a lefty, having this guitar (there are still top brands, who just have guitars for right handed players) will it be difficult to play? This also reminds me the GIBSON Everly Brothers, with the pick guard entirely around the soundhole, adding the strings from small E string up to the big E string, I don't thi,k we'll see a difference.

Topic: see Nadine BUT WHAT FAMOUS SONG CAN BE USED TO DESCRIBE YOU? (1 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
Sorry Nadine, I was not sure, so I placed this topic, because I don't know at all if it was your intention to post the same or similar topic..
You don't need to name ONE song, but you can describe yourself using titles of more songs.
It would even be more fun if you write why.
So here are mine:
- I don't like Mondays (Boomtown Rats)= too obvious, and never alone on this one.
- Accidents will happen (Elvis Costello)= car crash I had.
- Crossroads (Clapton) = because I need to make choices
- Without You (different performers) = being in this situation and living alone

Hi Riddler, how do you put those music notes on your answer?
What song am I?? What is the real reason of this topic ? Is it the name of a song who describes you as a person, your character, your life, your experience?
At this moment it should be the song: ACCIDENTS WILL HAPPEN, by Elvis Costello.
I will post the same topic but more specific, like what song corresponds with your personality.

Re: Slide (3 replies, posted in Acoustic)
Bonjour Patrick, how are you, did you receive your MARTIN, and?????, it must be a great guitar.
I was in the music store last Saturday, and being a good customer, they even let me play guitars, you can only admire in a locked transparent closet.
This time it was a VERY expensive SANTA CRUZ, a brand more promoted for fingerpicking, but also for strumming.
There was, and this is almost never to admire in a guitar store (here in Belgium) a MARTIN D-35.
They had a D-45 too, 6000€ as far as I understood not brandnew, but used by somebody who bought it brandnew, and bringing it back after 1-2 weeks. ( Probably too expensive).
About playing slide? I can play some slide, using an open tuning, like open D or G, still it looks weird to me, taking one of my guitars, D tuning, and you can play using the frets, playing 2nd or 10th fret. Not having a steel guitar, and not intending to buy one, you can create BEAUTIFUL sounds with a bottleneck. I think that most of guitarists playing slide use open tunings, you are even able to play a certain song using this method

I am really glad and happy that you have a lot of funny facts to, it takes tile BRO, reading, hearing it, put it all together, trying to verify if it is 100% correct, and if it isn't, others will notice it.

A MARTIN, yes straight to a top brand.
Who owns MARTIN(s), and what is your opinion: like in reviews, but I take it on a scale of 100.
I am the lucky owner of different Martins, so why this topic: just because of the different martins.
- sound
- feature also "the look"
- quality & easy in use
- satisfaction
- do you love your guitar, or would you sell it?
- why are you attached so bad on your guitar.
- IS IT WORTH THE PRICE????
A GIBSON acoustic.
- sound
- features also "the look"
- quality and easy in use
- Satisfaction
- Do you love your guitar
- why are you so attached on your guitar.
- Is it worth the price.
Quit simple topic, I just mentioned these two brands.
I AM NOT EXCLUDING PEOPLE WHO PLAY on APPLAUSE (ovation), Simon & Patrick, Yamaha acoustic, Takamine= all the others, trying to mention brands, as much as I can.
There are more people who don't play on these 2 brands, so I would appreciate brands, like Epiphone, every decent brand you own and like.
The only thing I ask is to flollow the different points and to try to give your guitar a score on 100.
It's a graet way to see what chordians think about their guitar.
Money? They aren't cheap, but MARTIN having changed the guitar world with the Dreadnought, like MARTIN D-28, you have Gibson who gave us the JUMBO guitars.
And why you love your guitar.
It is possible that financially issues are to important to change, or buy a guitar.
Don't shoot me, it is only a topic.

If you have the Pink Floyd song ASTRONOMY DOMINE, let the song play, and about 2 minutes later there is a little solo, I couldn't believe my ears, because almost exactly the same solo is ised in a COLDPLAY song, and I think the song is called Glocks or Clocks.
SO EVERY PINK FLOYD FAN: LISTEN TO THE GUITARSOLO IN THE SONG: "Astronomy Domine"
That was what I wanted to say, by writing that I didn't know that Coldplay played already back in the sixties with Pink Floyd

Re: I QUIT! (21 replies, posted in About Chordie)
Dear friends, Nadine, Roger, James, and so many more.
Isn't it strange, maybe for me, that "cyber friendship, really exists.
I am a chordian since 27/01/2007 (already THAT long!!), and for the first time in my life, I really feel that being a lot on this site, friendships are developing. Since the day I am here, I started to feel better week after week. Every single person likes to be loved. I've been on other sites, no sex or dating sitesn on other forums, and this forum is the first one that gives you a personal approach.
It 's not easy to be administrator or moderator (the word tells us enough) and you are SUPER. On other sites, they always write about violent language and worse. Never seen it here. Also, we do react very POLITE, member, moderator..., if someone starts to "play" God. Do you remember that member(well, same word but with a music note to start: RE) who wrote that this site sucked, that there were no songs with the music written just as in a school specialised in teaching music. The answers were sometimes "spicy" but never KILLING answers. I notice RESPECT for every single member, and when you are very active, you start making friends. There is even an option to send mails to another member. I thank you all for this COLLECTIVE effort, and everytime I am visiting this site, it gives me a home-coming feeling. I am pleased with all the kinds of names they give me, rockdoc, the doc.., and maybe you noticed already that I try to help others in a different, understanding approach. Sometimes (more than..) you will see a very long mail or post, but it's stronger than me. This was also the reason to become what I am now, and I hope that when a member asks something, close to my profession, accepts and understands my message.
I CAN'T TELL ENOUGH HOW I ADMIRE THE WORK YOU DO.
I hope and I am sure it will happen that this personal treatment remains, because the site is growing and growing. I am always ready to help if you want.
Love you all

This is a question that fascinates me already since I saw Jimi HENDRIX playing.
What I mean is, you buy a SYMMETRICAL guitar like the Gibson SG.
You start to put your strings on the guitar, but the thick E, changed by the small E string, you put your strings different than people who are RIGHT HANDED.
The ONLY THING you will see, are the volume and tone knobs, and probably a switch.
BUT is a guitar like this easy to play for left handed people, because the only thing that's different now are the knobs and switches?

Re: Buying effect-pedals is tricky, your views would come in handy (8 replies, posted in Electric)
Hey cickan from Sweden.
Greedy as I always am, I bought during the period 1996-2006, multi effect floor boards.
The oldest one is a ZOOM 8080, but still really amazing. The acoustic patch= bullsh**, it is almost impossible to create acoustic sounds with a device, unless you have a variax. But I have 2 possibilities to play bass, and the sound, using an electric 6 string guitar is amazing. It sounds definitely bass. On another rainy day I received as a gift a boss VF-1, and this is still an amazing device.
The tricky part was the fact of buying a line 6 POD live pedal, thinking that a lot had changed in all those years. Conclusion: some things have, but the effects remains the same.
My best buy is the FENDER CYBERTWIN, containing so much effects and FENDER amps. You turn the central knob, you will have a twin reverb, or a bassman, and people who own one of these don't hear at all the difference. You can regulate your amp into every kind of magic sound.
So, are you throwing away money buying this? I don't know. The more you see, the more you want, but if you play a particular style, needing some reverb and/or distortion, depending of your money of course, it is more than enough.
Concerning the effects (floor board), check prices on the internet: names ZOOM (8080) Line 6, BOSS, BEHRINGER (good price/quality.)

Re: TOP 5 - TOP 10 INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC (6 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
Hi EDGEFAN, from New Orleans, one of my all time favourite towns, probably due to the fact that it is America's most European city. How are things in BOURBON street, still, especially on a saturday night, thousands of people shouting to every girl: "show your tits" and throwing those chains?
I was there in September 2003, as one of the highlights of my "bluestrip" who started in Chicago, over St. Louis, following route 66, along the Mississippi, crossing Missouri, and than across the bridge back east over Memphis straight to Nashville, back to Memphis and Beale street, travelling south towards New Orleans. I was there in 1992 for the first time, but I am convinced that the style of music they used to play in New Orleans has changed a lot, from 90% jazz back then, to 80% rock, blues and 20% jazz now.
Yes there are really a lot of groups, or guitarists playing instrumental: Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Yngwee Malmsteen, to name a few.
I forgot someone very important: JIMI HENDRIX on Woodstock 1969, performing the national anthem.

Re: Night Owls? (10 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
Welcome Pefenheitennaught (where did you get your nickname?). I was always convinced that I was a NIGHT OWL, and 300% from my 20 to my 45 years. I succeeded every year at school, and university, never had to start over, and creating tons of jealousy, because, more in my university period, I was able to create a fantastic night life, with fantastic friends, fantastic girlfriends, and more than fantastic booze. I was a natural born night owl. The jealousy was easy to explain, while others, mostly spotted in the front row of the college banks, studying day and night, afraid to learn more about the peoples university, didn't understand that I spent most part of THAT life in student bars, and succeeding always. Today, I am not longer that night owl, I used to be (there's a shadow hanging over me, lala). I am unable to work, because of a total body destruction due to an accident (2000), and in all my days I spent in Hospitals I noticed that, remaining on a single room, I was the only person awake, watching movies or other things.
Now, I am physically so tired that I started to go to bed, now about 8 months (I never went to sleep before 02.00h) I go to sleep around 23.00h. This "transition" was flawless, and Istarted thinking that my bed and sleep had their reasons. If you told me this 1 year ago, I would have been killed by laughing, because sleeping = loosing time, and afraid to miss something.
Honest: I am glad like it is now, getting out of my bed early the last few months, and not working since 3 years, I must tell you that my days are to short: PC-GUITAR-PC-downloading and burning songs on blanc CD's - watching movies, play some more guitar.
Is it my age (almost 52), I don't think so, but I am transforming from a moth into a butterfly.
A moth is an insect I really don't know why they live: they appear from the moment you turn on a light, sitting outside in my garden, and they all go to that light, during the day, they have more light, so wwhat is their meaning of life?

Re: I QUIT! (21 replies, posted in About Chordie)
I really loved that guy, even acting more aggressive or violent than most of us.
My conclusion is: you can not change another person, you can only change yourself.
Education: every single person is different, or is responding different. I come from a family having 2 brothers and 2 sisters.
THE SAME PARENTS (yes 200% for sure), 5 kids, and every single child having the same education is different. There are some similarities, but what is education? Your parents are very important, but the influences from "the outside" are getting more and more important, AND it all depends too, from your character, the way of accepting and INTERPRETING. If I say NO to 5 people, explaining why I said no, I noticed that our personalities just hear what they want to hear, everyone is interpreting stuff like this in a different way: SELECTIF MEMORY.
Influences? Starting from day 1 at Kindergarten, you make friends, 3 years later you start going to school, 6 years, 6 teachers and different friends. You continue studying, going probably to a new school, again for 6 years. You are growing, getting older (12-18 years) having again new teachers, and new friends. At that point, you can talk more about external influences. You have a fiancée, you are so focussed on her/him, loosing old friends, and creating new friends. Every single fact is important, which gives me 1 conclusion: education is not really a parent thing, the only and most important fact is : COMMUNICATION. How many times you hear, no you are not allowed to do this. Why: Because. The because answer leads us nowhere. Teach your children well (C,S & N), by trying to consider them as mini-adults, and who have the what, why period. That's your duty, to guide them through, to help them, to listen to them and to try to answer their needs and questions. I noticed that at least 50% of the children are having a bad period, mostly between 14-16 years old, and they are natural born little liars, and if you treat them well, by trying to be the "standing rock" giving or encouraging them to COMMUNICATE, not giving them all they want. You all know probably the reality soap: "the super nanny", I saw it a few times, and having 3, 4 or more kids, the "bad apple" will affect all the other kids.
28 years ago, I worked on the paediatric department, the terminal, better the children having tumours or leukaemia. Nothing really nothing in my whole life, touched me more than the 2 months I worked there: the children supporting and helping the parents. If they are younger than 5 years, they are totally not aware and interested in death, or heaven and hell. These things were and are used in class and church. My only pain relieve there was the fact that dying was 100% normal for the kids, and writing this makes me emotional again.
So what is your opinion about EDUCATING YOUR OFFSPRING??

Re: BOSS versus ZOOM (7 replies, posted in Guitars and accessories)
Good afternoon almost guitarist help.
I've been to one of the biggest music store in Europe. They know me really good there, being such a good customer.
He showed me BOSS MR MICRO, with 4 tracks and 32 virtual tracks, having 300 rhythm patterns, price around €250 (I know if I buy it in the USA, it will cost me 40% cheaper, but he showed me the at this moment "flagship" BOSS BR 600.
What is the difference: 8 tracks, same extras like rhythm patterns, COSM effects, and!! having a quit sensitive STEREO mic, (not on the BOSS MICRO). €399. I am not a super guitar player, but I am absolutely not bad, and this one uses a Compact Flash card, you get only 128 MB, but here I have 3 CF cards, because of my digital camera, 1 GB memory.
The way of using it is not a problem I hope, but anyway, I go for the 600. I know myself quit good, I used to be a real "greedy" person, being able to pay what I liked.
If I buy the BOSS MICRO, I think that I will return immediately to the store 14 days later and change. I am happy as a child, because I can play acoustic and sing because of the stereo microphone.
The only other solution was buying in combination the ZOOM H4, but they told me what I thought, this ZOOM H4, is in fact a super sensitive "dictaphone". I will keep you informed about the experience I will have, and I am convinced that what I will post, can be helpful for other chordians.
Now: just a very good software program, to cut bad notes, and (I know it exists, because my friend in Mississauga, Ontario, had already such a program in !! 1991!!.
Maybe he can copy a program and send it, but I really want to know if other chordians do the same as I do, having a special software to correct everything, without recording the same song 100 times. Thanks for your advises, it's thanks to those advises that I started to have more and more an idea about these products.

Re: FUNNY FACTS 9 (16 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
Well upyerkilt, you have a point there. The Africans have a kind of religion. But are you still catholic when you don't practise it. I know that the difference between religions in the USA and in Europe are tremendous. I was told that, if I wanted to practise my job in a small US town (10.000) people, you are NOT accepted, if you don't go to church. In Europe, the churches are running empty, and it is very logic when you see the rules prescribed by the POPE. Isn't it strange that almost every culture on earth BELIEVES IN SOMETHING? and it is even more difficult to believe in GOD, seeing all the troubles and misery, and I am not happy when they say it's God's will. Since mankind exists, they started to believe, in the wonders of nature, thunder, lightning, or sacrifying other human beings to have a good harvest. Religion is one of the most cruel things on earth and caused billions of lives, for what purpose? I do believe more in reincarnation, and also in the fact that there has to be something. When you meet Jesus, there is no more need to believe, because you met him.
VERY DIFFICULT TOPIC
