Wayne, it will be nice to see you around here more often... but no matter, we're like good friends who don't talk forever, but can pick up right where we left off right?  smile

Hugs to you, Lizzy, and the kids and rest of the family.  I can't imagine playing at a family member's service, I wouldn't be able to make it though even part of a song (but then, I'm a cry baby!).  ((HUGS))  May the big guy above be with you and guide you along as your playing will surely be a pleasure to all who hear it at the service.

Thanks Toots!  Apparently while I was playing mine the friend video taped me and sent it to his mom.  Lol!  We all had a good time and hope too that we have many more!  I almost feel like I am "the cool mom"!  Lol!  Special thanks to the guitar foor that.

Joey, no, my Dad tried to teach me but all I wanted was to sing. Two years ago (in September... over 30 yrs of age) I finally picked up a guitar.

The boys let me upload the video to www.youtube.com/mekidsmom - my sons friend is the one on guitar, my son is the one who's guitar is "on the floor" at the moment of taping, and you can tell he's taller then me as I am looking up to him with videocam in hand LOL!

My son had a friend over last night... he brought his electric guitar with him, and his amp.  The young man plays a lefty, and can his fingers MOVE!  Wowie!

It's moments like that which make my heart smile!  Dad started this whole thing, I finally started playing, and now... my husband is finally learning, my son is really getting into it, and there was a JAM session at my house last night with the teenagers!  It was awesome.  Despite all the craziness going on in my life right now, I am so proud to be able to have a happy moment like that.  I recorded them a little, although I haven't checked yet to see if they'll let me post on youtube... one of the teens is still snoozing!  LOL!

OH... if no one else posts on this thread within the next day or so... I might just move it to the songwriting section for you, as you may get a bit more help there with suggestions.  I'll leave it here for now though, as I think it's a valid "general" question and could help a lot of people looking for info related to posting.  smile

Well, to double check and make sure that you post up F/C instead of F is a start ... as for the F/C on the 8th fret... if there's not too many mistakes during formatting, you could make a note at the bottom of the song indicating that it is played on the 1st fret not the 8th as the chart shows.

Otherwise, it seems you'd have to make up your own chord chart drawing, upload somewhere on the internet, and then link to it.  If there's a bunch of chords that you do that with regularly, I would say that it would be safe to put a link to such a photograph in your signature and note something in your signature about referring to the link for the chords played in your songs.

Now... on the other hand, I just looked at the large chord chart (because I too play the F/C on the first fret) and there IS one in there if you go searching for it.  Once you find it, you can do the same thing with it that you would do with any other picture to post it somewhere else.  (right click, choose copy picture url, come back here and paste it between img tags -- see this post for more details on how to http://www.chordie.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=14150)

So you could reasonably do that at the bottom of your song posts... something like:
Please  note, chords used in this song are actually:

F/C: http://www.chordimages.com//ramimages/i1/FslashCchord_N03211_1.png

yada yada yada ... I think if you put a TON of those in your signature however, it would be a bit much (I'm not sure that we have rules against pictures in siggys, but they might be blocked since no one has any anyhow).  OR... you could make a post JUST of the chords you use in your songs, and then refer to it at the bottom of each song, or in your signature.

I hope I've given you a couple suggestions that make sense and will help you figure out what will work easiest for you.  I know you post up TONS of songs on here, so easiest would be best I'm sure rather than having to work even harder coding extra stuff into each and every one.  Good luck!

Yeah... he sent it PRIVATE via email... so only I can hear it!  ha ha ha ha!  I'm cool.  I get the first listen!  Jeff, I guess you just have to post some Croce stuff to get him to let you listen!  tongue

Hey Johnnyreptile and Robert Fleet ... you'll get  a lot more help by starting your own thread for help with a particular song.  Generally, folks here will peruse the forums and if something in the title of the post strikes them, then they will read.  Since the title of this thread is "chords for Tracy Chapman's Baby can I Hold you Tonight", it's not likely anyone with chords for "Sweet Mama" or "Whatsername" will jump in here going, "AHHHH I HAVE THOSE!" because they didn't come in here and read this post and didn't know your request was hidden behind someone else's.  You can post a new thread by going back to the Song Requests forum, and then in the upper right click on "post new topic".

Posting requests in other people's topics not only doesn't get much response, but it's also called "hijacking" and is considered poor manners in forums.

In the meantime, please be sure to go to the ARTIST tab at the top and try searching first for chords to the song before posting a request.  Lots of members are willing to help if you can't find it and put forth a valid request that wasn't easily found first.  THANK YOU!  AND... WELCOME TO the CHORDIE forums  smile!!

Do you mean in the Songwriting section... the chords you play are different to the standard that shows up?  I'm a little confused.

Bob, so very sorry to hear about the loss of your father.  I can only imagine... don't want to though.  My condolences to you and yours.

Wow ZURF... are you sure you don't write books for a living?  You have an AMAZING way with description in the written word.  AMAZING!

yes... I'd love to hear from our friends in NC as it seems that's where it hit the worst... I think most of them are either east or west of where it hit though I'm not positive.  A good friend of mine's family is right where the worst damage was.  Apparently there was an empty abandoned Wal-Mart building that was demolished.  Scary stuff!  ((HUGS)) and hopes that all our chordie friends are safe and sound!!

While clearly not the best of weekends for camping... MUCH better having that "new camper" than a TENT I'm sure!  Glad to hear the family had a good time, and got out a little bit.  smile

Hi, welcome to Chordie!  If you've looked around the forums a bit, I hope you've noticed that everyone here is pretty friendly and helpful.  No doubt with 4 years of playing you'll have some input as well!!  Read the stickies at the top of each section, and jump right in to some conversations!!  smile

Nice job!  I'd suggest next time posting something like this in the "Bands and Artists" section however (and it might get moved by the mod of this section).  No worries though, not a major biggie issue smile

Again... NICE JOB!  You've got a great voice too!  smile

Thanks Toots!  That's my 6 year old Stephanie.  She's a little "mini-me" smile  I'd be excited if she could turn into a good singer... but her heart is into the art of dance.  The kid listens to 80's and 90's music ALL day long (prefers to dress as such most of the time too), and just AMAZES me with how she can anticipate when a song is going to have a hook or a change and moves right with it, even if she's never heard the song before!  One of these days, I'm going to secretly video tape her in the living room doing "her thing".  It's just awesome to watch.

Thanks TeaAnd12tone, I'm heading over there in a minute to check out the comment smile  I do know that about the F, and I TRY it when I'm practicing (I even try full barre chords occasionally, but haven't had much luck) although I haven't quite figured out how to make my index finger work right yet.  As well... my index finger is not liking me so much these days, it's sore a lot of the time.  Could be a little early arthritis or something, but I'm a hairdresser too and there's a LOT of use that darn finger gets.  I just can't quite make it do things right when it comes to the guitar sad  Ahhh well, my cheater F sounds OK... good thing my voice can drown a lot of the guitar screw ups out huh?  lol

well here it is... I did just leave a few chords out altogether, but it's good enough for now that I can say... "I can play it"  smile
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n5BspzUSEcM

If anyone wants to know "how" I did this... transpose what's here on chordie to -5, then capo on second fret to fit my voice.  Don't play the Bm big_smile make the Am7 just a simple Am, and pay attention because some of these chord "changes" are really just the same chord minus playing the bass strings, so it's really NOT too bad at all!  If anyone comes along and would like me to point anything out a bit more let me know.

I was right, STINKIN' AWESOME!  smile  Thanks Pix!!

is this song by the original artist anywhere to be found online just to listen to?  I'm really interested in hearing this now after hearing the cover (the guy was decent, but I BET it sounds stinkin AWESOME by the artist).  NEVER heard it before!

Hmm... Knowing how to read sheet music IS a very good skill.  It can really help you out with a LOT of things musically.  I must say, most sheet music that I read that's written "for guitar" also includes chords (often with little chord charts).  Soooooo ... I'd say learning to read chord charts is pretty important (it's also really pretty easy to grasp).  I CAN read music, but I use chords for playing my guitar.  I haven't learned all the notes up and down the fretboard yet (and frankly haven't had a huge desire to yet.  I do want to, but it's not so important to me at the moment).  I do know where they are on a piano, and can get a good idea of how a song goes by  looking at sheet music (the melody, singing, time, etc).

Not sure if my thoughts helped at all.  I'm not sure what I'd do in your shoes either.  BUT.., WELCOME TO CHORDIE!!

Good for your Deadstring!  THAT is great!  Be proud of that little plastic statue.  smile

NELA!  lol  You are so funny!

I too did a search all over google and couldn't find anything either.  Perhaps if you could put a link up with the music playing for one of the "magic ears" around here to help ya out!  smile

sad  It's NOT a bad idea, and I think it was super kind of you to offer.  Just... Chordie kinda has something like this going on already amongst the members.  It seems to me you would serve well as a producer though.  Why not hop up there and put your name "in the bucket" as such?  smile  I'll keep you in mind the next time I attempt to put a collaboration together (which could be a long time, BUT ya never know!!).
