Great job Roger. A haunting song and appropriate slideshow. I've been working in a coal mine area of west virginia (though not in the mines!). I see many miners around after quitting time (usually at the beer store), faces black with coal dust. Amazing the job these guys do - deep underground - something I wouldn't or couldn't do that's for sure! Great vid!

Toney,

You probably already have these in your vast repertoire. But if you carry a 12 on your gigs, I've been working on these 2 (great audience participation in the vids)

Hi Eric... Calm down, take a deep breath. Hit the "Profile" button under the Forum tab and click on "Change Password". From there you can use my dog's name (Rosie), or my phone number (not tellin) backwards or some G*dD**m word that I can actually remember.

Hope that helped!

Oh yeah - Welcome to the Chordie Forum!

HI WILLOW456 AND WELCOME TO CHORDIE!

(I'll stop yelling now by hitting that caps lock button smile )

Check out the Public Books tab at the top of the page. There are many songbooks in the Absolute Beginner and Easy Songs categories. I'm sure you will find tons of songs there to suit your needs.

Another helpful feature is the Search button on the forum page. This question has been asked countless times.

Congrats on re-acquainting yourself with music. I also picked up the guitar as a 40 plus year old after playing as a kid. It's a wonderful hobby and you can't find a better gang to hang with than those here at Chordie!

It is an honor to have a few of my words included in your beautiful song. I can't wait to hear the recording!

Hi Everyone,

But I'm glad to be back and just wanted to say hello again, Topdown....I'm still hoping we might get together sometime in the near future, I hadn't forgot about you, but as I said, lots going on.

Any time my friend, any time on most weekends anyway. I understand being busy and sorry to hear of your troubles. Just shoot me an email when you have some time. It sounds like you deserve an afternoon of pickin' and sippin'.

Hi Ark - I had a listen, groovy laid back tune.

I think the typo in your post lends itself to a title. I assume you meant "no specific idea", but I think "Pacific Idea" is a good title.

Thanks for the link Doll. I'd never heard of Chris Smithers and I enjoyed several of his vids. I've got to search Amazon for his CDs.

Here's a youtube link for a live version of the Dylan cover you mentioned.

Hi OPH and welcome to Chordie!

I recommend you search Amazon for "Will The Circle Be Unbroken - The Trilogy"

It's a ton of bluegrass at a bargain price. Lot's of old classics there.

Also check out this thread on Bluegrass artists.

Hi John and welcome to the Chordie Forum!

Near the bottom of the "My Songbook" tab, simply click the "publish" button to make your songbook available to others.

You may also want to save your songbook in your favorites so that you can easily send a link to your friends. Finding a songbook via searching is a bit cumbersome.

Hope that helped!

Hey Cam - Sometimes it is helpful to click on the "original song" link - oftentimes it gives a clue to the original tabbers intent. In this case it is a Dsus fingered x00230.

Here's the original song:

I just want to bump this thread because I think it is an excellent idea and a benevolent undertaking by Pix. Come on Chordians! Speak Up! What were the first tunes you learned to play? Everyone was a beginner once.

I'm also going to sticky this thread to keep it on top for a week or so.

This is a great idea Pix. The first two I learned (and am still trying to perfect):

Knockin On Heavens Door
Bob Dylan

http://www.chordie.com/chord.pere/www.u … p;id=66607

And even though it has the beginner's dreaded F chord (start with the cheater version):

House of the Rising Sun

Cam - I got the email and am looking forward to meeting you for some stummin' and suds! I work out of town during the week and I'm takin' my lady out of town this weekend for our anniversary, but like I said, let me know when you can make a trip up to the "dash"  (W-S) and I am sure we will have a great time. Bring the wife - the more the merrier!

Let me start by saying I am a huge Dylan fan - been listening to his tunes since I was a wee lad and Mom and Dad played his albums on the phonograph. I own several CD's including a box set and many of his songs are in my "favorites" rotation.

That said.... I saw Dylan about 2 years ago touring with Willie on their minor league baseball stadium tour. Willie brought tears to my eyes, playing all of his classics with feeling and true joy, really giving his all to the audience - I felt privileged to see this American Icon.

On the other hand, Bob played an eclectic set (he was on keys) where the sound was terrible, not a single song was recognizable and he did not acknowledge the audience a single time. A songwriting genius - absolutely - but I say if you can't give more than that, it's time to stop touring. The worst show I have ever seen (and I've been to hundreds). Maybe he just had a bad night, but I will certainly never pay to him again.

Guitars come in a variety of shapes and sizes. I guess "normal" could be considered a 14 fret dread. So a Martin Dread is 40.5" = 102.87 cm.

Here's a few links that might be helpful (sorry - dimensions are in inches).

I dug this up from an earlier thread on the same topic. Cmaj7 is still my best bang for the buck chord.

In my mind (at least presently) the Cmaj7 x32000 delivers the most bang for the buck. Such a simple chord, yet it seems to say so much. If it is present in a song - nothing else can substitute it is absolutely unique and identifiable. I love the melancholy tone - I just don't think any other chord delivers so much and it has such a simple fingering to boot. (OK maybe I've had 1 too many to be in love with a chord).

It might be interesting to visit the old thread and see if some users have changed their opinion.

Cam - Pix graciously drove the 3 hour trip to visit me a while back. He offered lots of tips, brought 3 or 4 of his guitars and I had a blast. If you would like to get together some afternoon or evening for a front porch strum-a-long, just let me know. Beers are on me!

Hi BiggySmallsAL and welcome to Chordie! I recommend you check out the Easy Songs and Absolute Beginner section of the public songbook tab. There are tons of gooduns to be found.

Another suggestion - search the forum for easy songs - this is a frequent question.

Again - welcome to Chordie - there are a lot of great, helpful folks here.

I was about to reply with the "because we want to" line, but you already had it covered. I love my wife dearly, but there is a touch of truth in some of those "cliche's".

Question - "If a man speaks and there is no woman around to hear him, is he still wrong???"

I recently picked up one of these

http://www.alvarezgtr.com/prod_page.php … ItemID=183

from a fellow chordian (guitarpix). Looks great, sounds great, and the action / playability is beyond my expectations. Can't speak for your model, but in general, I am positive on the Alvarez 12'ers.
