Nice, badeye. I don't know of too many blues masters who played a 12 string.

Makes me nostalgic for the mid 60's and my time as the only white guy in a blues band, playing those "clubs" whose walls had to be braced from the outside and where the guys had to pee in a trough (if there were "facilities"):).

Didn't know you did these Friday night "Blues Fixes"! I'll be sure to "tune in again" next Friday night!

Y'all probably already do this, but if you don't, do you think this might be a good idea?

On Sunday afternoon/evenings, just sit down and think about the weekend's gig, and post some of the mistakes or awesomes you and/or the band made?

I know I'd like to read them and it could be that one of us might learn a thing or two either to or not to do.....

In the "not" column for yours truly, it'd be (when I was drumming): Stop trying to twirl your damn sticks, Bill! wink

Thanks

Dude! You look like Kris in his younger days! That's an awesome pic and worthy of inclusion in an upcoming cd's photo booklet or on the back with your bandmates. Good thing Dondra (my wife) doesn't care much for social media and bulletin boards! wink She once told me Kris is the only musician she'd leave me for. smile

I wanted to post a pic of a Silvertone, but couldn't get the image tag to work. Is it allowed?

Thanks

Don't know if any of you caught the concert last night, but Jim Heath ("The Rev. Horton Heath") calls his brand of music "Psychobilly" , as you may have noticed when the group played "She Likes The Smell Of Gasoline".

A little less "psycho" than that was "Ï Wanna Teach You How To Eat" which is on YT, if you care to listen.

And how about that Gretsch? Anyone know the name? I wanna say it was a "Chet Atkins Country Gentleman", but there are several models that look alike, so I can't be sure.

Your buddy sounds very imaginative, beamer! Anything on YouTube we could hear/watch? Ibanezrtone! I love it! Sounds like it probably had its very own guitar stand, too. The fact that it was shaped like a Jag, makes me miss having a Silvertone. The first band I was in, The Watchmen (yep we had the name first, way back in the mid 60's), the three strings all played identical Jags a la The Ventures.

Thanks!

No problems, Joe. I have a question though: Seeing that this was 50 years ago, do you know if those guitars had a truss rod?

The reason I ask is because Paul McCartney's Höfner bass didn't have one, which is why it was hard to keep in tune. The reason I ask is because the time frame seems about right (early 60's or so?), and I don't remember myself.

Thanks!

Happy NAD! I have a Line 6 spider 15 and like it a lot. Pretty indestructable and user friendly.

So do I, Amy. I like it a lot and agree about it being easy to use. I also have the Fender "Band In A Box 15". [i]That[i] one is a tad more difficult (for this ol' boy, anyway) with a LOT of settings. I keep the instructions handy and use it mostly for the keyboard - when I can get someone to come and join me in the music room (also known as the front living room, which my wife generously lets me use) which is never! smile

Have a good rest of the week!

And Roger, yeah. the Songbook is empty, but as I wrote earlier, I kept all the songs written down and will re-add them later today.

Thanks again!

Well, that puts the "kabosch" on it for us, then Margarator. Too far for us to drive and because of my dementia and having caused a 3 car accident in which three people (including me) almost died, I took myself off the road. My wife Dondra is 67 and couldn't drive that distance anyway.

That and our fixed income...... Dangit! I sure would like to have met y'all, but that's the way these things work, I reckon.

Hey, how about this: Let me call at a pre-arranged time, put me on the speaker phone and I'll say "Hey!" to ya. Would that work?

Thanks anyway, y'all and I'll be there in spirit!

After a lot of searching and trying out of new names, Roger kindly allowed and helped me change my name to what you see above.

It's supposed to reflect the fact I play both drums (my primary instrument) and guitar (trying to get better while I still can).

Thank you, Roger! smile

Caligula

Caligula was a Roman emperor

Mean as he could be.          (crazy as a loon)

He fell in love with a Spartan girl

From way across the sea.    (while howlin' at the moon)

Caligula!  (sound effect: Group of soldiers with fists hitting against leather on the chest.... "HOAH!"

Too crazy to open up his heart

And so he slowly fell apart      (don't like this line but needed some words)

Bridge:

Crazy mean Caligula.......
----------------------------------
And this is where I lose the "thread" of what I'm trying to say, which is pretty much that he's so crazy that he doesn't get the girl and he dies

violently at the end.

Due to my being mentally challenged, this is usual for me: I know what I want to say, but it takes me a while to say it, so to save time, folks

sometimes  finish my sentences/thoughts for me. smile

Would you like to give it a try?

Thanks

Okay, Doug, thanks again! wink

Since the lyrics are incomplete, I'll post what I have as poetry then. Also, since the chords are "known" to us (;)) already, I'll wait until it becomes a real "song" before posting it as one. I think I have that correct.

Thanks!

Hey Everyone,

I had a "nostalgia attack" when I heard about these two guitars coming back. I played both in my youth about 50 years ago which was before I knew about the "action" adjustment and just played the Kay as it was with the 3 chords I knew. I bet I had a "grip" like Tarzan! smile

On the subject of "nostalgia", anyone miss the Mosrites? Before I knew the manufacturer's name I just called them the "Ventures' Guitars". Maybe they'll make a comeback too?

I have a Ventures concert on YouTube which shows Nokie, playing a guitar which looks similar to the Mosies at the headstock (if I'm remembering correctly) and I think they were Mr. Edwards' own brand. Anyone know for sure?

Thanks

Hey, Dino

Sorry, but I lost the posts where you and talked about your Espana 175, but man, that guitar does NOT want to be found except for the name Espana (see below) and it's being manufactured with that name by Dean and Gibson. It sounds like a rare axe, my friend, so I hope you'll hang onto it.

Sorry it took so long to get back to you!

Just wondered if you ever do that with some kind of copyright agreement that neither benefits or that you'll split proceeds?

Apologies if this sounds like a dumb question, but I have a little "sung to the tune of" song I'm working on and I could use a little help. Nothing really earth-shaking and not looking to make any money, just need to get it out of my head! (ever happen to you?).

Anyway, it's called "Caligula" and it is sung and played like the old Hank Sr. song "Kaw Liga". I know it's 3 syllables against 4, but it works.

I'll stop here till I know there's no rule against sharing what lyrics I already have.

Thanks

Thanks so much, Doug! I will follow your advice this evening (after my chores wink ) and see how it all sounds. As soon as I can, I'll get my son to help me set up my machine to upload videos of me playing and singing. There's some stuff of mine there, but it's not worth even searching for

While I'm thanking, I just want to say a big THANK YOU to everyone for your kindness to me. Y'all have no idea how much it helps me to stay out of the "Doldrums" (somewhere near the Horse Latitudes, I believe smile ) and actually do something creative (other than my chores, that is, and how creative can you be washing dishes/clothes, sweeping/mopping and all that stuff).

At night, I check out my subscription to your YouTube vids to see what's new and watch and re-listen to you again if not, so I have you guys on what's left of my mind a lot. Re: YouTube, please let me know if you have anything there, okay? I'll watch and comment and it'll be like a concert for me. smile If I have forgotten any of you, please know it wasn't intentional and just write me a short note telling me who to look for.

Thanks to all of you for your time and kindness!

Bill
