Very cool LR - seems like you are good influence on your little sis. But what is this vinyl you speak of? LOL - I've got several hundred record albums stored in a closet - I do still have a functional record player and even use it on occasion, but I bet there are many chordians that have never seen a vinyl album. Good for you!

I attempt to search for nearly every request posted on the song request forum. Although it is nice to receive a word of thanks when I am successful, it is not at all necessary. Generally, chordians are appreciative of my efforts and those of others. Since I am absent the musical talents held by other moderators here, I feel like the song request forum is a place that I can assist most.

I find and post a lot of links and sometimes pdf's that are forwarded via email due to the no posting of lyrics rule. Generally, chordians are appreciative of my efforts and several owe me a beer when we meet big_smile . I'm pretty handy with on-line research and honestly feel that if I can't find, it ain't out there. Many times the requests are just for very obscure songs that haven't been tabbed and posted on the net. Just because there may not be a response to a request doesn't mean that that folks haven't tried.

Just wondering what chordians gave / received in the way of musical gifts this year.

The wife got me one of these (the mid-back one):

Hi Cam

On the bottom of the forum home page you can view the member stats:

http://www.chordie.com/forum/index.php

Total number of registered users: 211403

You have to be a member to create a songbook and post in forums, but as you can tell a relatively few active members regularly use the forums.

I have access to additional stats that are truly amazing. Chordie is visited by folks from all over the world. In the last 30 days, we have had 3,078,942 visits that came from 229 countries/territories. That's what I call a worldwide audience!

Beating a dead horse. This question comes up all the time, and I agree, strumming patterns would be a useful tool for beginners. That said - look around the Chordie site (resources and FAQ specifically) and realize that Chordie acts as a search engine and formatting tool and does not actually host any songs on it's servers. In order for strumming patterns to be displayed, they would have to be part of the original hosting web site. (See original song link on song pages).

If folks are looking for patterns to specific songs, I suggest they post the song titles (no lyrics) in the Song Request Forum and I'd bet members would be happy to offer advise.

Hi bummerbum and welcome to Chordie. I believe the lyrics you are looking for are these:

http://www.songlyrics.com/tony-martin/t … de/254212/

I've read that the lyrics (by Tony Martin) are somewhat of a parody / remake of the Davide Allen Coe song "The Ride". Chords for that tune can be found here on Chordie:

Hope that helped and Good Luck!

Cam - I see no harm in posting the link to what you believe is a great deal here as long as you are not affiliated with the site (and I know you are not).

Alternatively, if you look under the user name on his post, you can email them directly by clicking on the E-mail link.

I've got a Tak EF series and I love it!

Good to see you back on line Pix, maybe I should have informed the others your absence was due to computer failure. Sorry to hear about your Grandma, but congratulations on your new weekend gig. I'm looking forward to seeing and hearing you play on stage.

Great link SouthPaw - I'd read about the lawsuit, but hadn't listened to the similarities until now. Guilty as charged. At a minimum, Joe S gets some deserved notoriety out of this. They should release the mash up, sounded pretty good.

Another thing that may help is that you can filter the songs here on chordie and display only those shown with tabs.

On the right side of the songs or artist pages, after "showing all songs", click change. From there, choose the selection "Show only songs with tabs". It looks like this:

Russ - I've gotta mention this pet peeve of mine. Why do folks unnecessarily quote the topic when it's obvious what your post is responding to? It especially bugs me when the 1st responder quotes the original post that is right above the response.

Sorry, just had to get that off my chest. In the grand scheme of things it's no big deal.

Hi rollingthunder1 and welcome to Chordie!

The best thing I can say is listen to the song to get the feel for the strumming pattern. Most beginners struggle with this at first and often request a specific pattern to follow. Down Up Down Up (DUDU) or D-DUD - there are many different patterns. My advise is don't get hung up on a pattern, play what feels and sounds right - it'll click one day and you'll have it.

But to your question, yes generally you repeat the chord above the word until the chord changes. Depending on the song it could be just 1 beat per measure, but usually it is 4 or 8 more. For 8 beats per measure, count 1 AND 2 AND 3 AND 4 AND.

A very common strumming pattern (someone called it the "folk strum pattern") is

D    D U   U D  U
1 + 2 + 3 + 4 +

Hi AW - Something that has worked for me - keep an eye on your local Craigslist, maybe even post an ad. I hooked up with a local bass player that way and we have gotten together a few times for some great jams.

I'm in the same boat - playing 1-1/2, 2 years and need to find some way to step it up. Lessons would do it, but jamming with others I'm sure would be tons more fun.

I really enjoyed that Wayne, thanks for the link. Listened to several songs - what a voice.

In a similar genre, check out this young talent I recently discovered on YouTube. Emily Elbert.

Hi, I'm Emily. I write songs and play music. I am 19. I grew up in Texas, but just started my second year at Berklee College of Music in Boston.

Cool topic bensonp. It's funny, that Chet / Jerry was the first one to pop in my mind. There are many, many great guitar duets featuring Clapton plus anyone, but for this post, I'll offer some sappy songs that duets seem suited for.

First one not so sappy, but I always liked it. Carly & James doing Mockingbird live:

This one, my wife says is "our song" - this version, not Smokey's. The soundtrack was pretty new when we met and after a topdown cruise in my '67 mustang that evening it seems appropriate.

And this may be the best sappy duet of all time.  Nat and Natalie Cole "Unforgettable"

Hi veryscarrie and welcome to chordie! By changing your settings to C / Ukulele, every song available on Chordie (at least those in ChoPro format) is automatically transcribed to your configuration. Look at the blue tabs on the home page named "artist", "songs" etc - there are over 250,000 songs available.

Here's a link to the Uke Collections from the Public Songbooks tab - I'm sure you will find something you like!

jd - The edit function should work, but I believe you have to be viewing the song in your songbook, not from the homepage. Here is a recent thread on the subject that may help.

Hi jdlongmire and welcome to Chordie.

A request to add songs can be found on the resources link, here:

http://www.chordie.com/addurl.php

Chordie does not host any songs. It is a search engine that locates songs elsewhere and formats them for user friendly viewing. More info can be found on the resource tab.

Give these a try jamiejah. The chords are listed separately, below the lyrics, but should not be hard to figure out.
