Can a human ear hear the difference between a Mexican Fender and an American Fender.
More specific: using a very good amp, ready for a gig, so at least 100W and more, and using a high volume, only producing a crystal clear sound.
WHICH CHORDIAN CAN HELP ME OUT ON THIS PROBLEM.
They claim that a Mexican Fender is approved in the US plant.
If there is difference: is it the wood, the neck-body part, the coils?
I really would appreciate your opinion.
At first I hadn't a clue where you live, but I looked it up, and it's down under.
MY TIPS:
1) Be sure that you don't violate the law, is it allowed to play on the street or in the subway, stations for bus and train, in fact public transport. I really liked it when there was someone playing guitar, for me there is an "extra" value created by people who play and sing.
2) see 1, but now: what about playing in a restaurant? Most of the customers, are there together to eat. In Europe, especially in Belgium, France we have an "eat-culture" and people don't like to be disturbed whhile they eat.
3) What kind of music do you play? Play songs people know very well, like YESTERDAY (not that easy on guitar, but if you are able to play it: using 2 voices can create a beautiful harmony, same for the guitars. READ CAREFULLY WHAT OUR NEW FELLOW CHORDIAN WROTE. HE'S 100% correct.
(very welcome) sound88 is this your year of birth 88? You will find a lot of easy and well known songs on this site. To mention some names and songs like John Denver: Leaving on a jet plane, country roads take me home. Some CCR stuff maybe: who'll stop the rain, a few Beatle songs, some Rolling Stones (Their slow songs, like Lady Jane).
Sometimes people will ask to play a song and that's the tricky part. NO ADVISE HERE.
4) Important of course is that you know at least the melody, and lyrics. Can you play some songs from "down under" groups? I try to say: play some Bee Gees, sounds always nice, or Crowded House (4 seasons in one day). Try some blues, no need to sing, just jamming.
5) Look for artists and/or songs, try to look in a songbook, print and there you go
6) A LOT OF LUCK, AND COURAGE TO PERFORM IN PUBLIC. Don't forget this tip, when you are sitting, put already some money in your "hat" AND
7) PRACTISE and PRACTISE and PRACTISE. I am jealous on the fact you have the balls to do this. I think of making a trip with one of my 2 best friends (both divorced, both at home, he: unemployed me because of being disabled after a car crash), maybe that can help to receive more, certainly if I can hire a wheelchair and we leave here with some guitars, and play somewhere on a parking on a highway. Dream, dream dream.

I hope this looks good James, I wanted it different at first, heavier rocksong, it sounds pretty on the electric too, but I am still in an acoustic phase. By the way, it is a tune I didn't had, because I prefer to write something else.
The only thing is, when you take the E chord, and you move up, using barré on the 7th, you have a B chord, and the only good fitting chord was, doing the same with Am, again up and using fret 7 in barre

THE GERM SONG
I listened to you, my muse James, and I opened a new topic.
Why is the song so short, just to give you an idea, about the rest, BUT MORE TO GET ADVISE and HELP.
James, my friend, you gave me a fantastic title, try to use it in one of the many songs I have.
ELECTRIC? or ACOUSTIC?
I go for electric: why: because germs (and in 1940 germans) are aggressive. Did you know that still TODAY, people die from disease like tetanus.
The lyrics, at least the "idea" can be very nice and funny, because I like to write about a lot of germs and their consequences.
Germs are aggressive as I told, and there are a few IMPORTANT things that people don't know. If you take 10 showers a day, there are more people who do this, than you can imagine, you will remove germs, living on the skin and they can cause a lot of "dermatological" problems.
Also, why is it so dangerous when you have lesions due to destroyed skin caused by burning wounds: because the germs on your skin, will attack you if a piece of skin is destroyed.
Some interesting tips for people who haven't the budget to buy a decent guitar.
I assume that this is interesting for AND absolute beginners AND active beginners (1-5 months) AND for skilled people.
If I should ask a chordian, playing since very long (20-40 years), what kind of guitar was the first, he will remember the first guitar he bought. In my case: an acoustic YAMAHA FG 300, a dreadnought but also more in the JUMBO direction. Price in 1977: 300$: not that cheap.
I also want you to know, that here in BELGIUM, EUROPE, entering a music store, the choice was VERY LIMITED. In the USA, it was probably easier, because the stores had 30 years ago more guitars than we had.
MUSIC STORES: CHOICE: Fender Stratocaster (400$), Telecaster who was cheaper back than (350$) and there were the "always attractive" Gibsons. Les Paul Standard, custom and an SG.
In the store here above, I always went inside (1972-1973), still in college, to dream about a Gibson, and to be famous. IT IS NOT FOR NOTHING THAT GIBSON LES PAUL, where probably the most popular to copy.

I don't know if I'm right, nut most of people who play guitar, started with an acoustic.
Today: the choice is so huge that it becomes on 1 side easier, on the other: difficult.
When you are going to purchase a guitar, the first thing you will notice is the shape. Sorry for female and also male chordians, you can compare this with a situation in real life: you meet or see someone, and you are attracted to the other.
Now some guitars: being attracted to a guitar is the "starter", you ask a guitar (limit= 500$) and you hold it, and try to play it. Ask a few guitars, in different categories, you plug it in, and there is the sound of an electric guitar, weird to see that YOU produce the noise. That fact is for me a reason to tell: NEVER GO ALONE, take a friend or even your father with you, try at least (5 - 10 guitars), and put the best sounding "for you" aside. USE ALWAYS THE SAME AMP, IN THE SAME POSITION, SO DON'T TOUCH THE AMP. I am trying to find decent guitars, on the site www.zZounds.com, or on www.musiciansfriend.com. We all have a PC, use it to see on those sites what guitars they sell, and ALWAYS READ CUSTOMERS OPINIONS.
You will also see starters packages: guitar + gig bag + amp (10W) enough to produce some sound at home.

- Epiphone Les Paul 100 PRICE 249.00$, I played 2 Epi's 2 weeks ago, an Epiphone Les Paul Standard: 399.95 $ (very good critics 4 stars), and a Epiphone Special: 149.95$ (critics 3 stars)
I preferred the classic, when comparing the 2 epi's.
- B.C. Rich Bronze Series Warlock 149.99$, 5 stars, and very special. Same category (THOSE GUITARS YOU WILL SEE GOING TO SEE A HEAVY METAL CONCERT Ibanez RG120 199.99$
4,5 stars: THESE GUITARS are "what I should choose!!!" Some more expensive: 300$-500$
- Gibson Melody Maker: PRICE: 349$, with a bridge single coil. Considering the IMAGE OF GIBSON: IN MEMPHIS I COULD WALK THROUGH THE "HOLY PRODUCTION" ROOM, (making (semi)-hollow guitars, I WAS SHOCKED AND AMAZED THAT ONLY 7 GUITARS on 10, passed the TEST. The other 3: they destroy them. THIS IS FAR THE CHEAPEST, MOST POPULAR BRAND guitar: a real Gibson for that price. I agree, it is not THE Les Paul, with 2 humbuckers, but this should be MY CHOICE: GIBSON can not afford to produce "bad quality" see 7/10.
- the last: Fender Standard Stratocaster 399$ (a mexican), but almost all people claim that, using a decent amp, you don't hear lot of difference compared to the expensive USA made.

well bobby6string, that was what I was doing, drinking, if I didn't do that, I wouldn't be able to write about the bottles. Before you have the right "boose"level in your bottle!!!! it really takes time and at least 50 bottles of beer, to find the right "tonality" and the biggest problem is: if you try this in a bar, after drinking "for science" go to the mensroom, and be sure all the bottles are gone, meaning that I had to start it all over.

Hello, to you too boot. Well that guitar is a really beautiful guitar: in fact it is one of the most beautiful guitar I saw.

Try this guitar using an amp, and try to find by regulating the amp the sound that is closest to the sound you want.
I have 2 Gibson LP custom, one from the end seventies, the other a "black beauty" having 2 humbuckers too. I went to the music store, they changed first the pick-up in the neck by a P-94, = the P-90, but larger to fit into the whole. I should have kept it like that because the sound was incredible. 2 months later the bridge P-94 arrived, and I went home with the 2 humbuckers, and 1968 was the first year they started to produce them again. PROBLEM: I was in hospital, my girlfriend left me, the originals: DON'T FIND THEM.
So there are some real good coils, pick-ups like (my choice) lindy fralin. Check it out on eBay.
I think if you go on the www.gibson.com you can not only see the pick-ups they use, but you can hear them too. On the gibson site: really interesting stuff what you have as result with different humbuckers.
Yes daddycool, and it is even worse when you are a medical doctor. I knew, speaking of 1997, that something was wrong, I changed girlfriend like pants, and I can see now, in fact since 1998-1999, that I blamed everyone BUT me. Those girls caused the problems, I didn't, you get the picture, while it has been all the time hidden inside me.
I even started to write a manuscript titled THE EXPRESSION of THE IMPRESSION of a DEPRESSION.
It started with a 10 page thick work, people who started to read it, asked me, often in tears, how I knew all those things I wrote "ABOUT THEM". I am aware now, that people who have a real depression, have almost all the same kind of personality, or better attitude to their family, friends. One of the strangest things is: they can not say NO, they want to be loved by everybody, they prefer to run away in stead of communicate. IT WAS THE MOST HORRIBLE THING I EVER HAD. I told you that I have about 120 pages (A4) here in my PC, but I can not earn 1 cent: rules of the insurance, but we are negotiating now. Also, I have to put it all in nice parts and paragraphs and I am thinking about translating the short book (10 A4 pages).
But it is a real disaster a depression, not only for the person who suffers from it, but also for all the people around. Realising that something is wrong is one thing, admitting is another thing, a lot of people don't admit it.
My biggest problem is not my physical problem, but that my mind is restless and busy with 5 things at a time.

But I have 1 HUGE QUESTION: if I play your tune, would it be different than your tune? I have the impression, using these beautiful, but underestimated chords, that it won't be a lot different, because of the "fast" switching from C--->F, using C7 and F7.

you go in a strum/slide/pick style up always using the same finger setting to the 5th and the 7th, and than back down. The rhythm you can use here is very variable. Can be used in disco style, rock style, heavy rock..., you can go up higher.
After a while, use power chords, using the E chord from 3th to 5th

Starting from this chord you go up from 3th to 5th (in fact it is better to explain if I tell that it's G in barre, and you go up to A in barre)

Well dear "old doll", I really hope that I can start working with my BOSS BR 600, there is a compact flash card, but I don't have a camera. A miracle happened: you know that I earned a lot of $$€€, and spend them too. My guitar collection has tripled in price since end 2004, but slowly, I am starting to come already with my head above the water: tax refund, electricity.. I lost my dad when I was 18 and he only 45, also a MD. My mother told me: it takes 4 years before you can live again, certainly because of the fact that I am so insured that I get more money than my sister and her husband working with 2. I feel ashamed, but I can tell you I paid a fortune for this, and in 99% of the cases this money is really trown away, because you can not be sick as independant worker.
But HYMN FOR MY SOUL (where did I hear this phrase), it makes life easier, but my physical condition will be worse from year to year. Why telling this: there is always hope, and I can come maybe next year to the USA, but it's impossible to travel alone. So I have to take someone with me, but I will just pay his ticket.
Next step: I have so many songs, a lot of "bluesy" a lot of "ballads" even heavy metal, and I try to dig them up out of my subconscience. I started now with a lyric to put a melody around.

Do you know the fantastic PRS, 3 different models, and besides one, only made from 1990-1992.
One of the has domino coils Lindy Fralin, to try to have a piece of the Fender cake. I have a 1964 Fender, sounds real good, but the single coil PRS is better: sound, easy to play.
I had the luck to buy them on eBay, but at this moment you don't see them on the internet.
Probably I did a good business, play and invest.
If you tell me about myka guitars, and McNaught guitars: they have to be real good. I trust your advise, always did, for 100%
Did you know that I ordered 1 of the "famous Chinese gibsons?"I have to say, they sounded pretty good. I sold this one, because a guitar player, always playing on STAGG (they are absolutely more worth than their price, very good sound) wanted to buy that Gibson, even after I insisted that is was not the real thing and giving him this guitar for 2 weeks before buying. He told me very proud, that he had friends who played on that guitar too, couldn't believe that this was a Chinese copy. The world is strange, he paid me 350$ for it, I paid 7 months earlier 250$.
It is getting more and more difficult to see a guitar in a forest, how many brands are there?
I wish I could try them all.

Dear yank, I play for 30 years now, as far as I know this is called "tab(lature), showing you where to put your fingers and on which string.
I play and electric and acoustic. I can play pretty well, but it is only now, since a few weeks, that I try playing tabs. I even don't know what "category" of electric guitar player I'm in.
Every guitarist is a rhythm guitarist, but some of them are specialised in solo guitar, not 10 minute solos, but listen to some CD's and you will understand what I mean. I am more a kind of "lead" guitarist, only using riffs and licks, and mini solos. If you go to a guitar store, you will probably hear 5 guitar players, who play only "solo", others jazz. I love to play in such a way that people recognise the song.
Dear Alvee, you are 100% right, if you live in England. I live in Belgium and because of the very strong £ and €, it has to be more expensive.
What I did a year ago, was looking on eBay.com, and I received some beauties.
I am afraid these prices are in the US only.
But try to find a website in the UK, and see the prices there.

As I told, English is NOT my mother tongue, so please HELP ME, give CRITICS, GOOD or BAD, but at least tell me the reason, or maybe better, I really should appreciate if you think that corrections are needed, if the structure is not good. The story is actual a real story. I had all my papers to move to South Africa, and I was really depressed, I still tell to some people: moving to South Africa was like committing suicide, except for the fact that I knew how beautiful life could be, but the intention was to "blow away all the bridges here in my country", just telephone my daughter, and mother that I was there, followed by a period of silence, to put my life back on the tracks, and only keeping contact when the time was there. But that girl came (at first sight) on the right time, we were 7 years together, but I worked hard and late, she worked from 06.00 and returned at 22.00-23.00 and the only time we spend together was on holiday. That's the reason why I doubt about "is there love", and running away, again, using my work as umbrella, she never had time to be with me 1 lousy weekend a month, followed of course by a communication breakdown. The only thing she loved was even not her work, but the $$$$ she earned, and that was a lot.

I looked around on a lot of sites, searching for what they call the best "beginners guitar".
One Brand, one NAME popped up a lot: Washburn D10S Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar.
Voted Number 1 by Acoustic Guitar magazine as the best guitar under $500.
PRICE: +- 260$
Another, real cheap and very good if you read comments: Ibanez V50 acoustic for 99,95$
An in between: Washburn D11 Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar price 195$
Buying a guitar is one thing, and the longer you play, the more you start to know which is a good guitar for you. I think almost every chordian started with a guitar at LEAST CHEAPER THAN 500$.
30 years ago, acoustic guitars for beginners were not that important, so we had guitars, BEGINNERS guitars for approximately 300$
Here are a few guitars. Of course, it is not because I mention this acoustic guitars that you have to buy them, I don't have a %. But it makes you easier to look for a brand.
Washburn is a good brand, their most expensive is > 850$
Do you have your electric guitar already. Do you have a decent amp, and if so you can always go to the music store and try some floor boards, who have a lot of possibilities, from distortion, space sounds, bubbles, and it can be possible you'll find your answer there. But as cytania tells (in fact the same) do it. You won't regret.
