In America, I think Memorial Day weekend officially starts things rolling.  In our cooler climates like here in NY, it's when people officially feel safe planting gardens (no more fear of frost), opening up their pools, and getting the grills going if they haven't already.  I'll be at my Dad's house Saturday for the first one of the year.  I was hoping he'd be feeling well enough to play his guitar a little, although I hear his left arm has been acting up.  I have a feeling it may be up to me to start the summer off.  I knew this day would come.  The pressure is on!  I think the old timers would look at me like I was crazy if I brought my laptop or cell phone out to read music from, and I'm not so sure it's going to be easy to see my music in the dark!  Any good suggestions for memorizing or cheat sheets or something that'll help me out with keeping the lyrics and chords straight to the songs I know, but don't know by heart???  HELP!  smile  (maybe I need to just bring a flashlight along!)  smile

I'll bring my video camera, my still camera, as well as my zoom recorder.  We'll get something to share!

I've done what Nela says to do... set a budget and stay within it.  Last time I went shopping my budget was $300-500 and I ended up with one that was under $200 because it was the one that called to me.  Now a days I go into the stores just to play around, not shopping, and each time one certain Martin calls my name.  Go figure, it's a GC "exclusive" ... and around 1K.  I'm saving my pennies and don't plan to buy another guitar until I have that one.  My husband bought one recently that was priced just under $400.  It's a Fender, but I still like my cheap Epi better.

Hi Gabby and Welcome to Chordie!  It sounds to me like you could probably teach a few of us a few lessons.  Make yourself comfy, read the stickies at the top of each section, and jump right into conversations!  If you have questions, feel free to ask... there really is no such thing as a stupid question, except for the one you never ask.  Most everyone here is quite friendly and willing to help out fellow guitarists (and there's a section for other string instruments too if you wander in there to talk about the Uke!).  smile

Sounds good to me Pix!  Nothing like helping out the small business owner instead too!  smile

I looked through all the fonts on my new computer and couldn't find anything that matched that.  I've got more installed on my old system, and when the 4 year old lets me, I'll get on there and look through them and see if I can find one that matches this.  smile

I like the idea of leaving it attached deadstring!  Now... do they make a capo I can do that with?  My capo lives at the head of my guitar, except for when I put it in the case sad  I'm always worried I'm going to lose it when travelling.

Yuppers... we've discussed a few times about strengthening the nails, especially for those that do a lot of finger picking.  I've warned about some of the do-it-yourself techniques folks see online as well.  So, I will show first hand on Zurf's lovely nail beds how to actually do-it-yourself without causing damage.  I'll also bring along a few of my pretty color polishes for the girls that might be there!  smile

Check out the local music stores.  If I was going to buy one, I'd buy a used one because around here the used ones seem to be the best buy!  ALL of the guitar stores by me always have a used 12 string... prices are always great on them, and each one always sounds great.  I assume people keep buying them THINKING they want a 12string and not realizing that it should be a second guitar not the ONLY guitar.

I'll jump on that too.  Have you checked out stickerjunkie.com?  My husband purchases stickers for his tattoo shop from there.  They may not be super high quality vinyl, but you can design your own and for basic black, white, red, they're pretty cheap.  The one on his hard hat (gets lots of abuse) is doing well after a year still!

I can't help but mention to those that may not have ever noticed, Per has a site set up for T-Shirts that you can get to from the home page of Chordie (proceeds clearly go to the admin, and therefore to Chordie!!):
http://www.cafepress.com/chordie (US site)
http://www.comboutique.com/shop/homeboutique-22896.html (European site)

I don't know for sure... I did search for some information and what I found says that he was a well known singer AND songwriter.  That would lead me to believe that he in fact wrote the song, but you never know.  Good luck in  search, and WELCOME to the forums!  smile

Does that one work by vibrations too like the Snark?  Looks easy to read, although not as pretty.  Hey, if it does the job right?  smile

I didn't have any luck either... all I could find is lyrics to her songs on cowboylyrics.com sad  Perhaps another member will have some insight.

Welcome to Chordie PaperChaser!

I see that songbook you're talking about ... and username ZappDave ... hmmm... could chordie be the next big facebook connecting guitarists that have long lost touch with one another?  LOL!  You could do a user search and see if you can find an email and send him a message.  I don't recall seeing posts by this guy, so I don't think he comes to the forum much unless he's a lurker.  smile

hey Joey, I agree with Zurf and Deadstring.  For the most part, I think you'd be fine... it's the few "members" here and there that don't quite know how to converse on the forums (or don't want to) that might email her ... everything else of course is open for you to see.  For the most part, she could easily access everything she wants and NEEDS to access right here, and just use your email.  That way anything that happens behind closed doors, is actually open to you!  If you think she'll be using the forums and posting often as well, you may want to introduce her to us with her new profile (using your email... so any lurker that might hear she's 13 still can't reach her directly) so we can be vigilant about knowing who she is, and that she's a teen, and remember to treat her appropriately (although, I think everyone gets treated pretty appropriate anyhow... as you know, almost all Chordian's are respectful and friendly!).  OR you could simply email me, and I can give the mods a heads up privately if you don't want to introduce her to the general public.  Give her the reminder that this forum IS open to the public... so even non-members can read it, no posting too much personal information... she need NOT put her location in her profile... especially not putting too much personal info (pictures, age, sex, address, name of the school she goes to, etc... smile)  But of course, you already knew that.

My son is on chordie, a few years older than your daughter... he doesn't post very often.  He reads the forums though, and mostly just looks up songs and saves them to his own songbooks.

If there were ever anything that you were concerned about, being parents ourselves, the mods would happily help you out.  Feel free to email any of us, or you could report a post and there is plenty of space to put your reason for reporting it.  I can think of a lot LESS safe places for teens to hang out online.  smile  Ultimately, it is your decision if you'd like to allow her to have her own profile... or hers if she decides to get online somewhere that you aren't watching.  IMHO, they will find a way ... I think it's better to allow it with supervision, than to wait for them to figure out how to do it themselves without supervision.

Zurf, thank you for your refreshing views FROM a Christian perspective.  I have long thought that all the nonsense about "the end" and what is written in revelations was a gross misinterpretation.  My mother firmly believes that she will be "raptured" and hopes it happens soon so that all of us will SEE it and then become believers.  I have to remind her that I am a believer, I just don't believe exactly what she does.  I've also told her that if she gets "raptured" it's not going to change too many people's opinions.  IF we don't go with her (how rude to assume we won't!  MOM, it's not nice to judge), we'll just think someone kidnapped her.  Ugh... God LOVE HER!

I'm glad the world didn't stop turning... we had a GREAT time at the Zoo celebrating my littlest's 4th birthday!  smile

That's right!  Spammers are bad!  You'll also notice that once you see the ban, within a short period of time the post will just "disappear"!  That's us mods working in the background deleting the junk so that you don't accidentally click on any of their crud.

If you see such a link in a post, look under the user name to see if they've been banned.  If not, on the far right of the post you will see a blue "Report".  You can click on that and then type in something about it like "spammer!  links in post.  bad guy.  delete.  save us mods!"  LOL... or whatever tickles your fancy, and then submit.  The mods will then get the report and can ban and delete or take whatever appropriate action is necessary.

Thanks chordie members for helping us out by reporting these.  We don't see them all, and many of you are there helping us catch em.  It's like sending in a tip to a police hotline, only we actually listen... and don't even get paid or eat doughnuts every day!  LOL!

Funniest thing... I watched the moving "Knowing" on Friday night.  I didn't know what the end of the movie was about... the fact that all the prediction nonsense was going on Saturday ruined the ending for me and I could only laugh though the end of it.  I think the movie was supposed to be a beautiful message at the end, but I just couldn't stop laughing at the ironic silliness of the timing of watching it.

Congrats on your first paying gig Detman!  You'll make it, and the cold will disappear one way or another (cold medicine is a wonderful thing).  I had a solo for a chorus concert one year in high school... I was beginning to lose my voice that week!  Magically, when the big day came I was able to sing the song and it sounded great.  I'm SURE you'll do fantastic!

Phill... I didn't listen to the piano version either... but WOW... I agree with Russell, this sounds much like something the Beatles would have done.  I found myself WANTING to listen to the end to hear the entire story.  EXCELLENT!!

Dad was a career firefighter and had back problems, too.   He swore by foot massages.  Seriously.  Apparently there is some nerve connection between your feet and your lower back.  Acupressure and all that helped immensely.   And for the record, Dad was no new age hippie, either, so it must have had some effect.   smile

There's actually a nerve connection between your feet and almost every major body part.  Look up "reflexology".  I don't know all the pressure points, but about 90% of the people who ask me for pedicures complain of either lower back pain, upper back pain, or sinus issues.... I always make a point to massage/apply pressure to that particular pressure point a bit extra during the massage portion of the pedicure.  The lower back's pressure point is in the very bottom of the heel.  The neck pressure point is at the very bottom of the big toe.  Sinus's are at the tips of the toes (although I'd rather have a facial massage to relieve pressure in the sinus!).  Food for thought!

I also did a search and couldn't find anything.  Perhaps one of our more talented members will give a listen when they have a chance and let you know what they think the chords are.  Welcome to Chordie MacMc!

Perhaps when I go on the camping trip this summer I will have to use that phrase then.  I have an Epi that cost less than $200, is laminate, and clearly will never be a showpiece or gain value ... Sharpie it right up!  LOL!

So I think the general thought is, if it's a cheap guitar then sharpie it right up... if not, then the person has got to be a "guitar God".  I think I may have to agree with that.
