AS a side note,,, how heavy a grip are you using? this can cause a lot of stress on the thumb. Have you ever concidered electric?put 9s on there and you can use a feather touch. run it though an amp on a clean setting with a bit of delay and chorus or reverb and chorus and use your middle or neck or combo of the two P/Ups. This can can keep you playing and you may not have the pain.

Re: Tendonitis (15 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
Amen Beamer. How do you play...sitting up? Standing down? Guitar slung high? Guitar slung low? The low "Zak Wylde" style of playing is a great way to blow your wrist out.
NO sh!t all the 80s guys seem to rip and have that thing at the knees! How the He!! Zack does it after all these years is beyond me. On electric I keep it at mid waist, acoustic, a little higher. ( shucking power chords and root 5ths you can get away with a little lower)
My son always wants his Flying V slung low,, but then cant figure out why he can't hit the chords,, but he wont listen to me,,,, Dads dont know as much as the teacher or the best friend LOLOLOL. (To the teachers credit he told him to hike it up also)

You might also want to consider talking to a guitar instructor who really knows proper form. I have read that this can cause lots of pain for some people and he might be ablel to advises you on better ways to hold your guitar for doing the chordings you like

In the McCreary area near Beckley. We plan to camp on the New River where Glade Creek runs in and float down to McCreary each day.
What area in WV did you live? I've spent a lot of time on the New, Gauley, Cheat, Bluestone and Greenbriar rivers over the last 35 years.

Kate,
the way skype works is that one person at a time palys in a circle up to 10 people.Look me up in skype Scott Sailer or beamer or beamer326 I can not remember which one Im logged on as. What type of music do you like to play? most of the stuf is on an acoustic, but I have busted out my SG for some distortion Electric is good no matter what, always find a clean nice tone for most.
Welcome to Chordie, every one here is great. ON skype also look for Zurf (He is a Mod here and host a lot of jams and Amy - The chick Mod- ) Also keep an eye on the general chat box. that is where ppl post up for the jams. also its always fun even if its just a one on one jam. its always better than playing alone.
Peace Love and chickenfried steak!

A BAND MANY PPL KNOW AND MANY DO NOT. 4th album due in Oct !
HERE IS THE BIO.
Although Slipknot made their mainstream debut in the late '90s, singer Corey Taylor and guitarist Jim Root got their start a few years prior in Stone Sour. Described as a cross between Metallica and Alice in Chains, the group spent several years playing the Iowa bar circuit before the two men joined Slipknot. Stone Sour re-formed in the early 2000s, though, and quickly distinguished themselves with a pair of gold-selling albums and three Grammy nominations.
The band's reunion began in early 2002, when Root and Taylor contacted original guitarist Josh Rand and bassist Sean Economaki about recording a full-length Stone Sour album. The bandmates had released several demos during their initial time together, and some of those songs were re-recorded for Stone Sour's self-titled debut, which earned two Grammy nominations and was RIAA-certified gold. Drafting in drummer Joel Ekman, the band released a song for the Spider-Man soundtrack ("Bother," credited only to Taylor) while recording the album in Los Angeles. A tour followed, and Stone Sour took a short break while Taylor and Root returned their attention to Slipknot for the recording of Vol. 3: The Subliminal Verses.
Several years later, the band returned to the studio to work on a second album. Come What(ever) May was produced by Nick Raskulinecz (Foo Fighters, Velvet Revolver) and released in August 2006, where it hit number four on the Billboard charts and spawned the successful single "Through Glass." Stone Sour hit the road that same year on the Family Values tour with high-profile headliners Deftones and Korn, and they released a digital concert album, Live in Moscow, in 2007. Once the touring was over, Corey Taylor and Jim Root shifted their focus to Slipknot once again, this time for the creation of 2008's All Hope Is Gone. Stone Sour's hiatus was shorter this time around, though, as the band returned in 2010 with a new album, Audio Secrecy.

control P. or copy and paste to a word doc. and print. you may need to adjust spacing and move teh chords over teh proper word,, but that is what I have been doing.
Control P works very well if you dont need a bigger font.

Re: Ovation Guitars (35 replies, posted in Acoustic)
As my not to long ago post for NGD showed, Im a big Ovation fan! back around 93 I found its cusin. A Kamen SPS that I found at a guitar/pawn shop. It was made in Mexico, stamped as a second,, it has an imperfect finish on the neck and some other minor stuff,, I traded my Fender tele and a crybaby for it. It has been my road guitar for 18 yrs and sailed around the world curtasy of the USN. I recently inheareted a Ovation Pacemaker. It is 37 yrs old and THE BEST 12 STRING! easier to play than my Fender 12. As to the round backs, it takes slight getting used to but honestly It has never been an issue for me.

Re: What kind of neck profile do you prefer? (11 replies, posted in Guitars and accessories)
I honestly never thought about how a neck is shaped, If it feels good, it works. Nver quite got the V neck thing,,(outside of a sweater or T-shirt) but most seem to be U shaped or flatter [ Depends on what style I'm playing ,, and I dont play well enough to get to twisted over it

Re: NGD (11 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
heck you can probably get one from MF new and just as cheep if you just need a guest guitar. Congrats on your 12, I just got my NGD last month and love it! Tuning down a half step is less "tinny" sounding on the high strings and less stress on the neck and bridge. I have found that you need standard tuning for most of Gordon Lightfoot's stuff and a good capo. Im using a standard capo,, but want one for a 12 It will mute the strings better.
Enjoy your 12!
