Only moderators can "sticky" a post. If you think your post deserves "sticking" you may request it, but as you may have noticed very few are actually stuck and those that are typically are in regards to forum rules.

Here ya go Pix

http://www.alligatorboogaloo.com/uke/chords/index.html

Congrats on your newest uke!

It's a tenor size. I had been looking for a cheap uke for a bit, when I saw these fenders with the tele headstock, I couldn't resist. I ordered it pre-release from Elderly's.

Thanks for the tip on the strings, I'll definitely keep Aquila in mind - they don't sell em at my usual place, so I'll have to search a bit. I'm not used to the stretching in these nylons - they are starting to settle in today, but I had to tune up every 5 minutes last night.

Very cool Pix - that maple looks great. I just got my first Uke this week. One of the new Fender's (just released). It's a laminate, but the Koa looks great and I wanted something I could strum on the beach without worrying about it. Gotta learn some tunes.

No offense taken Toney, and as the father of a 17 yo "vidiot" (my loving nickname for him) I largely agree with your sentiments. That said, Guitar Hero is a game that actually breaks some kids out of this mold and truly help them appreciate music. A ton of classic rock bands have seen their music sales soar after they were released on video games. My kid now listens to Led Zep, Aerosmith, Van Halen, etc - believe me a welcome reprieve from today's "popular" rap crap. He also dabbles with playing the guitar. From an old USA today article:

Even though previous Guitar Hero games relied almost exclusively on cover versions of most songs, original artists still saw increased song sales from inclusion in Guitar Hero II, released in October 2006 for the Sony PlayStation 2 and in April 2007 for the Microsoft Xbox 360.

A look at Nielsen SoundScan data for a dozen Guitar Hero II songs found that 11 out of 12 had increased sales in 2007, including:

• Cheap Trick's Surrender nearly tripled from 58,000 digital sales in 2006 to 161,000 in 2007.

• Kiss' Strutter went from 11,000 to 63,000 sold.

• The Pretenders' Tattooed Love Boys rose from 5,000 to 16,000.

I'm not sayin' all video games and their impact on our youth are good (wasting time shooting zombies is not my idea fun), but these music games in particular are doing far more good for the music industry than bad.

Like Guitar Hero or hate it, I believe it has to have a positive impact in enticing youngsters to picking up a real guitar. Sheer numbers speak for themselves. Here's a quote from Sammy Ash (COO of Sam Ash music stores)

“My own personal theory is very simple, we’re reaching close to 20 million Guitar Hero purchases,† Ash said. “If one percent, and that’s it, it’s just one percent of the people who own Guitar Hero decide that, ‘you know what? Let me go out and buy a guitar.’ That’s 200,000 guitars coming into a market that didn’t exist before. It’s one of the very first times a crossover is going on.â€

Great job wayne! - this pattern works on many, many songs. Thanks for sharing the vid and helping with this FAQ. For the noobies, a numerical interpretation:

In the southern US, it seems most sayings like this are similes relating to farm animals. I used to work with a particularly colorful redneck who had tons of 'em. I wish I had written them down.

One of may favorites, heard from my sister in law, said to my brother - "You ain't got the sense that god gave a goat".

Here's a great John Prine song based upon such sayings.

Here's a post I read on another forum that may help (credit to ljguitar on the AGF). I've also read that your guitar must be purchased from a pawn shop in order to get the proper blues tone.

How To Play And Sing The Blues

    * Most Blues begin with: "Woke up this morning..."
    * "I got a good woman" is a bad way to begin the Blues unless you stick something nasty in the next line like "I got a good woman with the meanest face in town."
    * The Blues is simple.
    * After you get the first line right, repeat it.
    * Then find something that rhymes, sort of: "Got a good woman with the meanest face in town. Yes, I got a good woman with the meanest face in town. Got teeth like Margaret Thatcher, and she weighs 500 pounds."
    * The Blues is not about choice. You're stuck in a ditch, you're stuck in a ditch. There ain't no way out.
    * Blues cars: Chevys, Fords, Cadillacs and broken-down trucks. Blues don't travel in Volvos, BMWs, or SUVs. Most Blues transportation is a Greyhound bus or a southbound train.
    * Jet aircraft and state-sponsored motor pools ain't even in the running.
    * Walkin' plays a major part in the blues lifestyle. So does fixin' to die.
    * Teenagers and kids can't sing the Blues. They ain't fixin' to die yet. Adults sing the Blues. In Blues, "adulthood" means being old enough to get the electric chair if you shoot a man in Memphis.
    * Blues can take place in New York City but not in Hawaii or anyplace in Canada. Hard times in Minneapolis or Seattle is probably just clinical depression. Chicago, St. Louis, and Kansas City are still great places to have the Blues.
    * You cannot have the blues anyplace that don't get rain.
    * A man with male pattern baldness ain't the Blues. A woman with male pattern baldness is. Breaking your leg 'cause you were skiing is not the blues. Breaking your leg 'cause a alligator is chomping on it is.
    * You can't have no Blues in an office or a shopping mall. The lighting is wrong. Go out to the parking lot or sit by the dumpster.

Good places for the Blues:

   1. highway
   2. jailhouse
   3. empty bed
   4. bottom of a whiskey glass

Bad places for the Blues:

   1. Nordstrom's
   2. gallery openings
   3. Ivy League colleges
   4. golf courses

No one will believe it's the Blues if you wear a suit, 'less you happen to be an old ethnic person, and you slept in it.

Do you have the right to sing the Blues?
Yes, if:

   1. you're older than dirt
   2. you're blind
   3. you shot a man in Memphis
   4. you can't be satisfied

No, if:

   1. you have all your teeth
   2. you were once blind but now can see
   3. the man in Memphis lived
   4. you have a 401K or trust fund

Blues is not a matter of color. It's a matter of bad luck. Tiger Woods cannot sing the blues. Sonny Liston could. Ugly white people also got a leg up on the blues.

If you ask for water and your darlin' give you gasoline, it's the Blues.
Other acceptable Blues beverages are:

   1. cheap wine
   2. whiskey or bourbon
   3. muddy water
   4. nasty black coffee

   1. The following are NOT Blues beverages:
   2. Perrier
   3. Chardonnay
   4. Snapple
   5. Slim Fast

If death occurs in a cheap motel or a shotgun shack, it's a Blues death. Stabbed in the back by a jealous lover is another Blues way to die. So are the electric chair, substance abuse and dying lonely on a broken-down cot.

You can't have a Blues death if you die during a tennis match or while getting liposuction.

Some Blues names for women:

   1. Sadie
   2. Big Mama
   3. Bessie
   4. Fat River Dumpling

17. Some Blues names for men:

   1. Joe
   2. Willie
   3. Little Willie
   4. Big Willie

Persons with names like Amber, Jennifer, Tiffany, Debbie, and Heather can't sing the Blues no matter how many men they shoot in Memphis.

Make your own Blues name Starter Kit:

   1. name of physical infirmity (Blind, Cripple, Lame, etc.)
   2. first name (see above) plus name of fruit (Lemon, Lime, etc..)
   3. last name of President (Jefferson, Johnson, Fillmore, etc.)

Examples: Blind Lime Jefferson, Jackleg Lemon Johnson.

The legendary rooftop concert, the last public performance of the fab four was played 40 years ago today. Man, I'm getting old.

From wiki:

The rooftop performance
Former Apple Building, 3 Savile Row, 2007

The original concept for the film project called for the documentary to end with a live show, the first live public performance by the band since the end of their last tour, on August 29, 1966, at Candlestick Park in San Francisco. However, agreeing on a format for the live show proved problematic. Paul McCartney suggested playing a small club, like the Beatles had in the early days. John Lennon suggested an overseas location such as Africa (although he also expressed a sarcastic desire to perform the show in an asylum). Ringo Starr held out for staying home in England. George Harrison showed little enthusiasm for any live performance at all.

After failing to agree on any other venue, the band settled for an unannounced concert atop their own building, Apple's headquarters in Savile Row near Piccadilly Circus. The Beatles, accompanied by Preston, performed on January 30, 1969 — intercut in the film with interviews of some rather surprised Londoners near the Apple headquarters as the music blasts out from the roof. The performance and the film close with the police arriving and shutting the concert down. The rooftop concert has been a popular bootleg ever since, and was to be the final public performance by the Beatles.

The Beatles played five songs during the rooftop performance: "Get Back" (three times), "Don't Let Me Down" (twice), "I've Got a Feeling" (twice), "One After 909", and "Dig a Pony". (The Beatles also played a brief version of the British national anthem, "God Save the Queen" and a brief rehearsal of "I Want You (She's So Heavy)" while second engineer Alan Parsons was changing tapes. Those performances were omitted from the film.) [4]

After the final song, McCartney says, "Thanks, Mo!" acknowledging the enthusiastic applause and cheering from Maureen Starkey. Then Lennon closes with his well-known remark, "I'd like to say 'thank you' on behalf of the group and ourselves, and I hope we passed the audition!"[4] This exchange was spliced on to the end of the Let It Be album.

They were stopped after some bankers complained to the police - stupid bankers.

Also are there any finger exercises you can do when not on the guitar to help strengthen and loosen them ready for the F and B?

Hi crevs - Music stores sell a variety of gizmos designed to aid in strengthening your fingers. A cheap, easy way I used to exercise my fingers was using a few of the little binder clips I snagged from work. I kept various sizes in my truck and while driving down the road would squeeze and hold between my thumb and alternating all fingers of my fretting hand.

scallopman - individual song books are limited to 100 songs, but... you can have as many different songbooks as you like.

I don't know how those songbooks over 100 songs got here. Perhaps they were in place before the head admin set a limit?

My 8 gig iPod Nano comes with album artwork if it recognizes the CD...all of the songs online come with album artwork.

Yea 06 - you're right. My iPod touch has artwork, and the ability to flip through the the album covers is pretty cool. You just can't compare the 1" square photo on the iPod, or even the 3" cover on a CD to what we used get in full size vinyl albums.

And the joy of cleaning out the seeds on a double LP! Another thing this generation will never appreciate wink

I recently got my first iPod. I bought a iPod touch for my oldest kid for Christmas and decided it was time for me to move into the 21st century, so I got one for myself also. It really is a very cool gadget and I love having the ability to carry thousands of songs in my pocket and hook it up to my car stereo without having to carry around a bunch of discs.

So, I have a 400+ CD library, plus several hundred vinyl albums (many of which I have copied to CD). I remember as a kid the thrill of buying a new LP, opening and reading the liner notes, looking at the photos, enjoying the album cover art, maybe even getting a poster. Although I embraced the change to digital and was one on the first amongst my crowd to purchase a CD player, I truly feel a bit of the art was lost when media changed from LP to CD.

So now I have burned / ripped (whatever you call it) many of my CD's to the iPod - that's great. I have also downloaded a few albums from iTunes and that's where my problem lies. I just can't seem to get used to paying $10 or $12 for a bunch of zeroes and ones sent to me over the internet. I'd much prefer to have something physical I can hold, touch and read. I do believe in supporting the artists, so I am not going to download songs illegally.

I'm probably one of the last generation who will stick to buying real CDs from retailers. That's cool. But kids these days will be missing out on some great artwork that was a fun part of collecting music in the past.

Hi alanmac872 and welcome to Chordie! One of the great features here is being able to transpose any song to your desired key. On Daniel, going down 5 steps or semitones will change from the key of C to G. E7 transposed down 5 steps is a B7, A7 changes to an E7 - here's a link:

http://www.chordie.com/chord.pere/getso … anspose=-5

Just use the transpose button on the right side of the song page to find your desired key.

Hi Xbeatle - I just checked your link and the popular song box is tucked neatly above the song window on the top right side - not at all covering the cord boxes. A tweak of your screen resolution (display properties) may solve your issue.
