Well sanguine from Nebraska, I want to know what Nebraska has to offer to "visitors, or tourists". I've been driving with a mustang convertible, almost always in September, from 1-2-3-4, and return 3 weeks later. I almost never take Highways. Unfortunately, I am disabled, since 09/2000, but I worked again from July 2001. It gets difficult, because my girlfriend left me in 2005, when I was in a Hospital: a reason to kill.
No, about electric guitars, my ABSOLUTE FAVOURITE is PRS. I have bought my first PRS, CUSTOM 24, full option in 1997, she is made in 1993. I used to have a GIBSON LES PÄUL STUDIO, beautiful black, golden hardware, but that guitar: impossible to stay tuned. I got these one for 300$, straight from the customs, and she had 1 thiny scratch= enough to keep her out of a music store. So after 1-2 years, I changed it in a big music store (got 700$), and with more than a fist full of $$, I saw, I played and I bought that PRS. Even after 1 month, still in tune.
By a lot of coincidences, I was privileged to start with an acoustic Martin HD-28, and yes, my collection started, today I have 27 guitars, a Fender Stratocaster all original 1964, a Gibson Les Paul Custom, 2, 1 made the first year is black, and it is a killer guitar, because I changed the humbuckers by P-94. I also have the complete PRS EG series, US made, and today almost impossible to find, they wanted to have a competition with Fender, but started too soon, and were made only 2 years: 1990-1992, except one: 1994. It is difficult to answer your question, because I have at least 7 more. But:
1) PRS
2) FENDER TELECASTER

It always surprises me how many people are playing=going to church.
Here in Belgium, Europe, the churches are, it seems hard what I say, getting more and more empty. I am a Catholic (at least I was baptised), but not longer practising. My job as Medical Doctor Generalist gave me a lot of satisfaction. But I had to stop, because of the sequels of a car crash. It is really amazing, and I think it is happening more and more, so we can not speak about a "fashion" to go to Rome, the Pope..
I know that there are more religions in the USA than in the whole world (same with lawyers). But how do you handle, react, when you see all these things going wrong? GOD= ALLAH, there is one big difference, they consider Jesus as a prophet. But reading the Bible and the Koran, there is not so much difference. Personnaly, I believe in REINCARNATION.
I see a lot of topics where people ask advise concerning guitars, amps, all for the church.
I will make a topic in the "chat-corner" about this "fascinating" subject.

Re: Les Pauls Everywhere (8 replies, posted in Electric)
I love your answer, Joey E, this is really without discussion, the best way to "block" someone's answer. My collection, as I wrote already 1000 times started by coincidence. A very good example was, in 1995, I had a Gibson Les Paul Studio, very beautiful black guitar, with gold hardware.
I had the occasion to buy this guitar, thanks to a friend, working at the border as Custom. The Studio, brandnew, had a little scratch, and was not for sale any longer. I paid 300$ for it.
ONLY, I needed to tune this guitar so often that I started to hate this Gibson. I went to a music store and had the luck that they took over my guitar (paying me 700$) if I bought another. That other is still the best guitar I ever had, and it was called a "PRS Custom, full option. Since thgat day I am a PRS guy. Even the series made in Korea, PRS SE, are better followed and they end up in the PRS factory, before going to the store. There is a difference between US made and Korean made, and for me these are the best guitars price/quality.
When I bought that PRS, I, and almost all the artists in this (sometimes lousy) country, didn't know that brand. Indirectly I sold at least 5 PRS guitars, who were back in 1997, more expensive than now, by giving my guitar to a (professional) musicians who were really amazed.
Now, most of guitar players know that brand, but it looks still "fancier" to play a gig with a GIBSON or a FENDER, because the "so popular" shape.
I was in my music store 2 weeks ago (15% discount, on all their products), sorry, I was there too one week before with a friend who wanted an Epiphone, I tried the SG model, and the cheapest Epiphone SG, was really the best (for me): price: 260$, but my friend was in love with another
Epiphone G400 Vintage Electric Guitar, while my choice was an Epiphone Special SG.
For us Europeans, it is so interesting now to buy a guitar on ebay: 1000$ =723€. Even with import taxes and VAT, it will be 900€. The same guitar, here in a "monster store", will cost you 1300€, so the choice is easy. I have got just 1 problem: I won an auction for a Gibson Humminbird, and she arrived with the "typical Gibson fracture: the neck, just because they forgot to remove, or send it with all strings without diminishing the tension. The electrics: NO PROBLEM.
I am convinced that I will buy an Epiphone on a rainy day, did you see the white Epiphone custom les paul with gold hardware: love at first sight. I ALWAYS TRY A GUITAR OUT IN A STORE, BEFORE ORDERING IT.

Hello ziggystardust, concerning the pedal you bought, I wanted to know what kind of effects are build in.
I use sometimes a wah pedal, but mine are included in the floorboards I have.
I have a zoom 8080, and a Line6 pod XT live floorboard. I remember my brother had a wah pedal 30 years ago.
He sold it, he even sold a quit good and strong amp at that time: KUSTOM, sold it too. He owns also a Fender 25th anniversary, which I really like to compare. I was convinced that this was a good investment, but it's not.

Re: FENDER VG has someone experience (2 replies, posted in Electric)
Thanks Joey.
I have approximately 25 guitars, I had the Variax 700, both acoustic (???) and electric. I sold, with profit, the acoustic to someone who wanted it so bad that he gave me his Burns 2x6 (12 string ) electric, and I really love this guitar, and extra €€€. So only the "electric" is still in my possession, and I have to admit, it's a GOOD guitar. You have some "imitation sounds" fgenders, les pauls, 12 strings, and a few acoustics, and you are right about this: you turn a knob, and you will have an open tuning. I also purchased a real good "tube" amp, Marshall AS 100 D, 100W. I use this amp even more than the fabulofantasticamazing Fender Cybertwin 2x65W, with so many possibilities: almost all the Fender amps are in this monster, vibroking, basman, and many others.
The Cyber-Twin utilizes both analog and digital components to instantly become over 120 of the world’s most sought after classic and modern classic amplifiers tones. You have also a lot of other preselected effects, and you can put "your favourite tone" in the Cybertwin.
People DON'T HEAR A DIFFERENCE between their Fender Amp, and the same Amp IN the Cybertwin. Using this with the Variax 700 electric, sounds really good. More and more great guitar brands, start to use or better to produce guitars, with the system you see in the Variax.
But having all these guitars, I still prefer, GIBSON, and FENDER, both Stratocaster (an original US made 1964 model = investement, and Telecaster (the best Fender I have is a special green telecaster, and the serie is called California Beach, and this Telecaster is a replica of the 1952 guitar). They are almost sold, and will become of great value.
Personnaly, I am a PRS man, having a 1993 PRS Custom 24 (full option), very light, and from jazz over blues to hard rock. I also have a special serie, produced (except one: an extra 2 years) from 1990-1992, to go in competition with Fender. The serie: PRS EG, 3 models (s=single coil, and h= humbucker) So I have a s-s-s, a s-s-h and a h-s-h. They produce them again in Korea, called PRS SE EG. I have an SE, I also mailed a few times to PRS, asking about the real difference: less "lacquir" but they always end up in the US, before releasing on the market.
They are SO GOOD these SE models, PRS SE Santana, PRS SE single cut, or soapbar, they answered me that about 50% of the SE series, have a different coil compared to the US. You can always change a Korean soapbar, by an US soapbar. PRICE: really balanced compared to the HIGH QUALITY. If I should buy a soapbar, it will be probably a Korean.
What do you think of the GIBSON, with signals on every string? As far as I know, it is quit complicated.

Hey, dear "chordian" Aussies. I always loved your country, but I never got the opportunity to travel to Australia. I worked as a Medical Doctor, Generalist, but I had a car crash in September 2000.
Statistically, I should have been dead, but after 10 months of not working, I started again on 2 July 2001. I tried to do this for another 8-9 years, I am 52 now, but the car crash was finally the cause that I had to stop end 2004.
I am (still don't know why) very good insured, receiving every month approximately 6250$ (australian $$). I was intended to move to South Africa in 1997, every single document was approved, but I met a girl just in between 2 trips, now to go to the doctor also from Belgium, who made a real super career. I had to work, in the evenings, nights and weekends in a local Hospital, because they learn you a lot of stuff, a generalist here is unable to do.
The intention was "wait and see", to move a few years later to another commonwealth country like Canada or Australia & New Zealand. So now, I DON'T work, I am not ashamed to write you what I get every month, because I was really OVER Insured.
Question 1: if I like to come and live there, in this condition, is it possible? Please send me a mail.
Question 2: do you have Australian guitar manufacturers, both electric and acoustic?

Yep ALVEE33, you're 100% right: Led Zeppelin, or Zep is Zep, and if you enter a guitar store, they don't play no longer "the house of the rising sun". You hera OR stairway, or useless solos played by youngsters for MINUTES: what brand they take, they put it in an amp, with a lot of distortion, and that's where the problem starts: you don't hear longer the difference of a squier versus a fender, because playing loud solos with a lot of effects: all brands sound similar. I have the luck to be at home, and being able to go during the week

- acoustic: GIBSON, SJ 200 Montana Gold, DOVE, HUMMINGBIRD (2), MARTIN , from D-1 up to D-45, 7 or 8 I think.
- Electric: as I am a PRS man: PRS CUSTOM 93, full option, when I bought this guitar, only a few people had heard about this brand. The 3 PRS EG USA series (only made from 1990-1992, except for one -1994) Fender Strat 1964 US all original, EPIPHONE SHERATON (real good guitar) variax 700 Gibson LP Supreme, Gibson LP ORIGINAL CUSTOM 1968 (first year of producing again), Gibson LP Custom 1978, Gibson "faded"SG Menace, and Gibson Flying V, BURNS 2x6 (12 string) and Telecaster California Beach= killer.

Re: Les Pauls Everywhere (8 replies, posted in Electric)
Hello Cytania
I looked on www.ebay.com, and got those results: only Gibson LP & Fender Stratocaster. Results:
- 1443 items found for: gibson les paul.
- 2101 items found for: fender stratocaster
My humble opinion is that the fender stratocaster is indeed more prominent on this sites. But HOW MANY DIFFERENT GUITARS HAVE THE NAME "FENDER STRATOCASTER", these results includes also Mexican Fenders, and I am surfing a lot on the web, due to my disablity after a car crash. So I am always looking on ebay sites, on zzounds, 123music, musician friends and many more: About the fender stratocaster: it is almost IMPOSSIBLE to find a guitar, just look at "all the relics", all "the reissues", all the "specials, like Beck, Clapton, Rory Gallagher" and I didn't talk about the Mexican Fenders. In a music store it is getting so bad, that even the people who work there, talking about a big store, have difficulties to tell more about "a fender strat". I have an original Fender Strat US made 1964, all original. Selling this guitar will allow me to have an exagerated amount of money. I can even buy 3 expensive fenders (4000$) and will still have 8000$ left. If you live in Europe, they designed a serie, named "California Beach"and only in a limited edition for only the European market. 1 Telecaster (a 1952 reissue I think, in a colour they used to paint cars, a light, dirty green colour, but I think they are sold out, there were also 2-3 stratocasters, California Beach, and today, 2 years later, my green (and fantastic sounding tele, is already 30% more expensive.
On the other hand, Gibson Les Paul model has 3 categories: LP Standard, LP custom, LP studio, but you can add the SG, and they have reissues too, like ther Jimmy Page LP, but with prices far to high. The cheapest REAL gibson is the melody maker, real good comments and critics, price
349,95 $, if you live in Europe, I live there, don't know that price. But fender is (my opinion) really exagerating. A model 2000$, you don't see any difference can cost 300$ more because of a little different wood, or coil.
I hope I could help you

- Kustom HV65 Guitar Combo Amplifier (65 Watts) 399,99$
I hope that this list has an amp like you want. They are solid, and within your budget.
I only looked for strong amps, and not 30W amps, because, having a strong amp gives you more opportunities.
My personal interest goes to the Crate with digital effects. I have 3 amps, a Marshall Valvestate, no tubes, but a monster, a Marshall Acoustic, you can play electric on this one, allowing you to hear a "crystal sound", and my TOP OF THE BILL: is a FENDER CYBERTWIN 2x65W, containing a lot of existing Fender amps, like the Bassman, meaning: almost every Fender Amp is in this HYBRID amp, using and Digital and tubes. Add there a lot of effects, select one, and the knobs will turn automatic to the desired amp or effect. You choose sound A in Amp A, and you can regulate the knobs manually, providing you that particular sound you want.

They have 3 albums I think. If you want to hear them, go to www.amazon.com music the Rutles.
I have 2 CD's of them, and you can really fool almost every visitor, by putting an album in your CD player. 90% of the people will be convinced that these are The Beatles, yes, they are that good.
If you know the Bonzo Doo Dah band (Neil Innes, I think) you can already find a song that looks really Beatle songs.
If you have Windows Media Player, you are able to hear 30 seconds of each song, and I should really appreciate your opinion.
2) If you know other "fantastic, I prefer almost identical sounding: music, voices" bands like the Rutles, please help me. BUT IT IS REALLY WORTH TO GO TO AMAZON AND LISTEN TO THE SONGS THE RUTLES ARE PERFORMING.
3) Same as 2) but are there cover bands (I know that there are more than enough, see Shadows, CCR, ABBA) like an ironic tribute to the Stones?

Re: aussie bands (7 replies, posted in Bands and artists)
The Bee Gees started there, only (Barry Gibb, °1946), and the twins, °1949. They were born in Douglas on the Isle of Man, moved in the early Fifties to a place not far from Manchester. In 1958, the Gibb family, including infant brother Andy (born 1958 in Manchester, England), emigrated to Redcliffe in Queensland, Australia. The still very young brothers began performing where they could to raise pocket change. They started to have a "name", were guests in television shows, but they returned to Britain in 1966, and it was there that they heard that the number "Spicks&Specks" reached the number 1 position in Australia, early 1967.
Can this be considered as an Australian group? Yes and NO, because they had already succes and popularity there, but in fact their carreer started after meeting Robert Stigwood. I know A LOT about them, because, even being a huge fan of Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, Slade, they were really important. I even remember that the FIRST single I bought was "saved by the bell" by Robin Gibb, in the period they had split for a while.
They are still one of the best groups ever. I rather prefer the period 1967-1974, and their next album "main course" contained already tracks, using a kind of "disco music". I think I have ALL their songs, most of them: Napster & Audiogalaxy: resulting in 22 CD's, including the solo careers. One album was never released back then A Kick in the Head Is Worth Eight in the Pants.
They sold about 200.000.000 million records (some say 120-150.000.000) their songs are covered by a lot of famous artists, and they wrote songs for others. One of the best songs is "Only One Woman", performed by Graham Bonnet, from THE MARBLES. I love this song, and Graham Bonnet is a very good singer. That is one of the reasons why I like singers like AXL ROSE, Ian Gillian: they sing hard rock, ballads and have a voice to envy. I just write here about the Bee Gees, because their career started in Australia. They are in the top 5 of the best selling artists.

Dear "chordian" Natho.
They are great, I love and like them, having all their CD's. DO YOU KNOW THAT THE YOUNG BROTHERS, have an older brother GEORGE.
Together with HARRY VANDA, a Dutch immigrant, named Harry Vandenbergh, he started mid-sixties with THE EASYBEATS, the first BIG Australian band. (See Wikipedia) If you include the Bee Gees, the are Australian too, but went from the isle of Mann to Australia, and back to England.
SUPER neigbours: All the groups where the Finn brothers have played, from Split Enz to Crowded House, and Solo. Last THE SEEKERS
But concerning AC/DC: they are a hard rock band formed in Sydney, Australia in 1973 by brothers Angus and Malcolm Young. The band are considered pioneers of heavy metal, alongside bands such as Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple and Black Sabbath, but they claim just to be a rock band. AC/DC have sold an estimated 150 million albums worldwide, which proofs a lot. But what about all the discussions when Bon Scott and the new (already since end 1979) Brian Johnson? I remember me that in the early Eighties, people almost despised him. But they didn't, VERY GOOD MOVE, to ignore critics, and the people who knew Bon Scot, must be at least 50 years now.Besides their phenomenal super album was Back in Black AND RECORDED WITH BRIAN, so NOT BON SCOTT. This story tells it all.
A few groups, with an AC/DC relation are VAN HALEN, and you can obvious hear the influence by Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple.
I looked up a lot of things, I have also a box with at least 5 albums, I even think all their Albums
FORGOT THIS: Back in Black sold about 42.000.000 copies, just behind Michael Jackson.

But, just in between I met a girl, THE ONE WHO LEFT ME WHILE IN HOSPITAL 2005, AND ALSO THE ONE WHO THROW AWAY my Gibson Black Les Paul MADE in 1968, the FIRST YEAR of a new start. I am in fact also very productive, but I should record in fact every song I write.
Isn't there a small device, size of a dollar coin, with let's say 250Mb memory, with USB, and you just stick that small device on any instrument you use, recording every riff, lick and more.
This should be a great useful device, because in 75% of the stuff you play, and you play it even 30 minutes later, asking and tormenting yourself, how did I play that piece, that riff, that lick? Plug your little device in your PC or Laptop, and there it is.

If you like to hear the way the French people approaching songs, this is one
Michel Polnareff - Love Me Please,Love Me, on youtube.
The BIG problem in France is THE ACADEMIE FRANCAISE, who hates influences from other languages. They use a "FRENCH" word for almost everything. They prefer to make a COVER in THEIR FRENCH LANGUAGE above the original. They use also to refuse world wide accepted "medical" terms like AIDS. They call it SIDA, giving big problems when in a hospital. They have to travel in group.
The most horrible thing is, they are so convinced and they think that, while there are maybe 100.000.000 people speaking their language, that they are above everything, causing BIG problems in countries like South Africa. I remember me helping a French couple in KRUGER park, because they wanted something, not being aware of 30 people waiting to buy also something.
I helped them, they asked me if I've been already to CAPTON. It took me 30 minutes before I realised that they wanted to tell me that it was CAPE TOWN

Re: BLUES: the scales (31 replies, posted in Electric)
I am so glad to get such an impressing answers.
The reason of "the existence" of the blues, go back far away. Somewhere in an article I read that there still are black Africans, in different parts of Africa, where you can hear and learn a lot of their music. I've been several (+-10) times to South Africa, you have ZULUS, XHOSA (Nelson Mandela is a XHOSA) and BUSHMEN (this should be a tribe for George W.)
If you are interested surf to www.africaguide.com, but I heard more than once music there. The way they sing and play, is amazing, best example: PAUL SIMON when he releasedalbum immensely popular Graceland, for which he won a Grammy. The album featured the ground breaking use of African rhythms and performers such as Ladysmith Black Mambazo, VERY popular in South Africa ISN'T IT NADINE???. I think that blues is straight from the heart, but in the beginning, they were singing on the cotton fields, probably GOSPEL & BLUES were developed more or less simultanious. Gospel was OK, because there they could sing now in public, and it was a must: going to Church. Blues: BLACK BETTY a big hit for Ram Jam, but written by Lead Belly. I have a big box, about: Sony 100 years music containg 26 CD's, and a must for music lovers. There are even songs, recorded in early 1900. Still a lot of money, for a lot of music. On www.amazon.com you look for Sony 100 years of music. ONE OF THE BEST ALBUMS EVER MADE
giving you an idea about the evolution, all different kinds of music, going over Opera, Operette, Blues, Gospel, R&B, Folk, Rock and Pop. See for yourself, but don't get an heartattack when you see the price. On the Amazon market $159.99 and brand new $296.99. I was very lucky to receive this box, as a "relation" gift, when still working. I wish I could share this with you.
My opinion about blues is identical to yours: STRAIGHT FROM THE HEART. But do you agree if I tell that this is the same for other songs? see WHITHOUT YOU, written and performed by BADFINGER, as a catchy, but still melancholic song, covered only a few months later by HARRY NILSSON, the song comes from real deep in his soul (I compare this a lot with "A little help from my friends" written and performed by the Beatles, BUT WHO REMEMBERS THE LONG CUTTING TO THE BONE CRY, in the Woodstock version by Joe Cocker?
I have the impression that a lot, maybe 50-75% of the songs (pop & rock" are Blues related.
You don't need a solo on guitar, minutes long, you need TO feel the music. If you don't, you may be a super guitarist, but you will always stay a robot, if you don't put a peace of you in that song.
Also a lot of producers are ruining a lot of songs, glad that we find a lot of bootlegs or outtakes, where you see the spirit again, and not "good enough to use this version", but a cleaned up version caused by producers.

Topic: CURIOSITY KILLS THE GUITAR (22 replies, posted in Acoustic)
OUR ANTHEM SHOULD BE "THE GUITAR MAN" by David Gates & BREAD.
Nosy and curious as I am, I want probably the IMPOSSIBLE.
What is the ratio: ACOUSTIC/ELECTRIC.
I have to ask my question in a few ways.
- How many players play only acoustic?
- How many players play only electric?
Probably more easy, because most of us, I think, play both, so:
- What do you prefer to play: acoustic above electric?
- Electric above acoustic?
It is getting more complicate:
- If you play acoustic and electric: how do you choose the "today's instrument"?
It is a question, interesting for the statistics of why, when, where do you make a choice.
My answer:
I play AND acoustic, AND electric. I noticed that I play more acoustic guitar, because it sounds so "heavenly", me and my guitar. Sometimes, I go to a room, full of electrics (I have the luck to live almost without neighbours, so I can play real loud: why? because for me it is like a treatment, SHOUT, PLAYING LOUD, and in 70% using effects.
I think that the mood of the day is important. There are days that I only want to play electric as reaction on something.
I prefer ACOUSTIC: it makes me calm, you have a sweet crystal clear sound AND YOU HEAR EVERY WRONG NOTE.
Need your help real bad on this one

Re: RELATION MUSIC with MATHEMATICS (12 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
Bobby6string, or stringman (sounds good too), You and I both know that we are not going to study maths again to play better.
About "playing better" after a few drinks, it is perfectly normal, but it can end in a bad situation.
Alcohol, and "illegal" drugs take away a certain limit. You will feel it for yourself, after, but not too much, a few vodka's, beers are enough to play more relax. You have to pay attention if you like: somebody who drunk MORE THAN ENOUGH, will have almost no injuries when he falls down: because of the relaxation of the muscles, where a "sober" man, falling the same way, is trying, or is contracting his muscles followed by injuries. I don't need a drink, compared to 5 years ago, I was too shy to play in public, even to speak in public, but I changed: MORE ASSERTIVE: I was always saying yes, still working as a Doc, and somebody phoned me to come, I did come. But when I started again, my phone line was coming out on my cellular so I could talk to the people personally, and avoiding a lot of calls, moved them to the day after, I could have a "fast" diagnosis, just by asking a few things. But this were remains of who I was before my car crash.
I worked always very late, 15 hours a day was nothing, I had too much work, and because of my since 1996 ex-wife, a fantastic excuse to hide me behind my job.

Re: Jimi Hendrix All Along The Watchtower Intro (1 replies, posted in Electric)
Are you, what I called, a gifted plkayer? Problably, yes. I olay for 30 years, biggest mistake today, I never went to a music school.
First of all you need to know that this song was written and performed by BOB DYLAN, try to "master" or "learn" his version. Search Jimi Hendrix, and you will see a lot of tabs.
If you have a record of this Hendrix version, try to play along, even thousand times.

Topic: FOLLOWING GUITAR COURSE USEFUL OR USELESS (1 replies, posted in Acoustic)
There is always one thing coming back in a lot of topics: the word guitar teacher.
BUT WRITING MY IMPRESSION ABOUT THIS YES OR NO TOPIC, I HOPE THAT WE CAN LEARN SOMETHING.
Is it useful to start following a guitar course, like in my case, to learn finger picking, when you play almost 30 years, and when you are absolutely no guitar hero, but reaching that level to feel no more shame to play for an audience. It seems maybe that I consider myself as a good player, I can only ask or better answer, that I am not a bad player, but that there are still so many things I can learn. Since I am member, (January 2007) I really notice a progress in the songs I play.
THANKS TO ALL THE TOPICS, THE Q&A, THE WAY OTHER PEOPLE PLAY.
I'll be honest: I want it all at the same time, and I don't think that I am alone. I learned, when I look back, a lot since my membership here.
I have developed "my own" style duringh all these years I play (30 years) that's why I ask if, having your HABITS and OWN STYLE, if it is useful to find somebody, teaching me other styles? Or is it useless. Knowing myself, I am impatient if I have to play a peace, or a technical approach of a song, in 1 week, following class. I really try to do my best, and I OWE YOU CHORDIANS A LOT, but this is the reason for this topic.
