Hi David
Welcome to the "not private " club or CULT of the "chordians"
We are proud to be CHORDIANS, and we love all new members. I think this has to be one of the fastest growing sites on the web.
MORE: there must be someone sending us anthrax before we "react".
Purpose: exchanging ideas (I am a big topic poster) how silly they can sound.
Roger (GUPPY) and James (McCormack) are our tribal chiefs.
PURPOSE: exchanging knowledge, chatting about interesting things, or joking, or just telling how you feel. I think the average age must be between 35-50, some are 51 like me, and playing guitar, having time. There are members 14 years old, in fact what we try to accomplish is helping others, and helping ourselves, like: I post a song, what do you think about it, like I am from Belgium, and my English is not my mother tongue, so my lyrics can be full of misspellings, or wrong phrases. We discuss about guitars, songs, bands, a good album new on the market. EVERY THING CONCERNING MUSIC.
And what is your kind of music, are you professional, which instrument?

I repeat: they sell 2 backpackers, one with steel, and one with nylon strings. So theoretically I think you can change strings, and put nylon strings. Guitarpax, my fellow chordian, you are 100% right. I don't consider my backpacker as a guitar, and certainly not when you tried other "small" guitars, like baby taylor. Baby sounds more like father taylor. I keep my backpacker for only one reason: it doesn't sound at all like a real acoustic guitar, BUT the sound you get is like I read "thin", more, it is a sound difficult to put it in a categorie. Detman is 100% right, you can leave your backpacker 1 month without touching it, it is still in tune.
It sounds more like a mix guitar/mandolin/unknown instrument. I had the opportunity to play with baby taylor, I think there is also a baby guild. Those guitars are THE REAL STUFF, easy to take it with you and to write songs, wherever you are. I am considering to buy (maybe) a baby taylor: rich, warm and full tone. But are there other "mini-guitars" on the market? I didn't know that there was a Takamini (nice word by the way). You can tell me to trade my martin for another, I was thinking about it, but I decided to keep the Martin, because of his "Bob Dylan-like" sound.
I forgot something again: Martin is producing now also baby martins, fender too: link

This is a nice topic.
I am curious if they use those songs in the English speaking countries like Great Brittain & the USA.
Here in Europe, most of the people learn English, but a lot of them just listen to the melody, more than the lyrics.
So a list, HOPING YOU ADD MORE:
- Please Release Me  by Englebert Humperdinck
- Baby, I'm gonna leave you by Led Zeppelin
- I will Always Love You by Dolly Parton/Whitney Houston
- Tears In Heaven by Eric Clapton
- Don't Forget To Remember Me by the Bee Gees

Yes, I 'started to love the Foo Fighters. They are really good.
In 1996, I was backstage on one the biggest rock festivals in Europe, to be MD only for the artists. I met Dave Grohl there (attention: there are not more than 20 people, and every year the same, and one of the rules is: LEAVE THE ARTISTS ALONE, which is logic), but meeting Grohl started professional. So, they let me come at least 10 times in their trailer, very nice guys, they wanted a shot of vitamin B, I even put my "doctor's stamp" on the *** of Dave Grohl, on his request. I didn't break the rules, but Grohl and I, seemed to have so much in common, that we spend almost 5 hours together. There is a "catering company, with restaurant" and he proposed to eat together with the group, even keeping the place in front of him, to chat. I was invited by Dave, to come over to Seattle, end August 1996, he gave me his cellular, and private phone (direct phone, avoiding all the bull dogs) and private adress with plans to go to visit Seattle, his friends, going to a studio, to watch his friends from REM, recording a new album, and to jam, even compose some songs in his private (little studio") I DIDN'T GO, only because I worked as MD generalist, and I had already been on holiday in May, and being afraid to loose patients, so I called him, and yes it was Dave who answered me, I promessed to come 1 year later, but due to other circumstances, I couldn't go. And like it always is, telephones became lesser, he became real popular and I moved on. You don't have to believe this story, but it is 100% TRUE. I still regret a lot my decision back than. It was so amazing, at that time, his name was already famous, being the drummer of one of the most important groups in the nineties, now playing guitar, and me not going. He also told me a lot about Kurt Cobain, but pronouncing the name of Courtney Love, he went almost mad. Also their image, guys from the darkest origin, was a joke. He was born and raised in the suburbs of WASHINGHTON DC, father or mother was lawyer, and teacher.
This is far the most incredible thing in my life, I also had opportunities to talk with Dylan, to have a naked Wendy (see Prince: Wendy & Lisa), because they asked me to go urgent to their trailer, and the first thing she said to me, you are a nice doc, I think I love you. I disappeared quick, she was a beauty at that time, but the stuff I heard? If I should have used a device, like there are now (zoom handy) I think I could earn a lot of money, just by writing down what I hears and saw.

GITAARDOCPHIL SAYS: RELAX

A more difficult or more easy topic:
In another topic, I asked how many of us, CHORDIANS" play acoustic versus electric.
I received some nice answers, and better in the way I think and feel the same.

IS THE STYLE YOU PLAY:
- ACOUSTIC and/or ELECTRIC
- THE SONGS YOU PLAY, COVERS OR OWN SONGS
DETERMINED BY THE MOOD YOU HAVE WHEN YOU TAKE (and which one) YOUR GUITAR TO PLAY.

I have 2 issues: when I am feeling bad, aggressive, stressed, angry, sweet, gentle, I take my guitar, acoustic or electric, to play a song and that can be HARD ROCK, OR BLUES to act against, or better to follow my "feelings" and "mood"
So I can play also ballads, when I am happy or sad, even when disappointed in something, I can play ballads to RELAX, but it can also end up in a real "heavy" piece, my song or a cover: no difference.

Well dearest OLD DOLL and fellow chordian Don Corleone (original nickname), and of course guitar girl ( I saw your name already a lot, but I never had the pleasure to ask if you are a US citizen.
What Don tells about the mood determinating which instrument to use, well Don, you took the words of my mouth.
More, the songs I play, existing songs, or own compositions, and the same thing listening to music: there are moments I listen to "sugar sweet ballads" changing or switching to bands like Smashing Pumpkins or Metallica, INCLUDING THE SONGS I PLAY, (also from ballads to heavy rock) are almost 75% influenced by my mood. This is so fascinating that I will make again a topic, because it is (not because I am a man of science) real interesting to see what other people, do. I think that most of us own and an acoustic and an electric guitar. You all are a great help, and as I always SHOUT

SIGMA
From 1970 to 2007, Sigma Guitars, a division of C.F. Martin, provided players with an affordable option in tradition and value, and Sigma Guitars were based primarily on original Martin® shapes and sizes, but Martin began cutting back the Sigma line in the late 1990s and finally discontinued it in early 2007. So this means that they don't produce the Sigma again. WHO HAS EXPERIENCE HERE
and who, this is even better, has and a SIGMA and a MARTIN, and can tell more about the "big difference" between them. I know the fact that they use "laminated" tops, and also for the sides and the back. There are higher priced Sigma's with a solid spruce top.
I don't think that Martin needs this line, and I also think they stopped, because of the huge market of other, almost in the same price category, better guitars.
So the second one is APPLAUSE.
An offspring from the OVATION SERIES.
I told it already 2 or 3 times that, due to disability, I can't stand right longer than a few minutes, so when I play acoustic, or electro-acoustic ( I have a MARTIN D-1 Electro-acoustic), sounding pretty good pluuged in my acoustic amp, a Marshall AS100D, 100W of pure power, and this is even the amp I am using as "main amp", so playing 80% electric on it. You can hear the beauty of the sound of any electric guitar, even using effects and floor boards. I never wanted a 100W acoustic amp, 50 was more than enough for me, UNTIL they asked me to play on the 50 and 100W with the same guitar. NOT a SPLIT SECOND of hesitation: 100W.
But to continue about ADAMAS, OVATION and APPLAUSE: what is the DIFFERENCE or SIMILARITY BETWEEN APPLAUSE and OVATION? They are both part of the KAMAN group, and Applause seems to be the cheaper version of Ovation: IS THE DIFFERENCE REALLY VISIBLE, or can you hear the difference, and the wood used of course.

Well thanks for your answers. They are matching entirely with my opinion.
But WHY has Fender, such a brand, neglected the acoustic market? Neglecting is a big word, but the acoustic guitars are so lonely? I mean, that I can't believe that Fender, making such fantastic guitars, like the Fender Stratocaster, and Telecaster, produced in fact "inferior" guitars, compared to others?
I noticed that slowly, there guitars are (except, the electracoustics) becoming better and better.
I don't say that they are bad, but only that it is difficult to accept the lesser quality acoustics.

It is amazing, but it is a European group, performing since 1961 and still 100% in the original line-up.
Even not the Rolling Stones can say this. The "Rolling Stones" were founded in 1962,lost Bill Wyman as a member, and do tours very rarely. So all in all: Golden Earring is "the oldest rock 'n' roll band of the world".
They are DUTCH, from the Netherlands, often compared with the "European Stones", like "Aerosmith" in the USA. AND: they are great. See Wikipedia, and who has never heard their famous hits, like "RADAR LOVE", and "WHEN THE LADY SMILES".
I didn't believe it, just found it by asking "google" for the oldest rock group.
45 FORTY-FIVE years, SAME ARTISTS.

My brother purchased an ovation a few weeks ago, while I changed my ovation to buy a Martin.
Ovation: very great sound, but again so many different guitars. Due to an accident, I can not stand longer than 5 minutes, and when you play sitting, the ovation moves whole the time, add a preamp that I had to repair 3 times (everytime 50$), and two days later: again problems, I hated this guitar.
On the other hand, I have a Martin D-1, electro-acoustic, sounds pretty good. But I have a lot of (expensive) acoustic guitars, and in stead of placing a preamp in these, I bought 2 microphones, giving a quit good result, IF you take a cable long enough to sit at least 10 metres from your amp

There is one guitar we know so well: Fender Stratocaster and Fender Telecaster.
On the other hand, I have no experience at all concerning a Fender Acoustic.
Are these acoustic Fenders "inferior" compared with Gibson? and why didn't they focus on production of acoustic guitars, or am I wrong and do they focus more on the acoustic quality of their guitars.
I wrote also an email to PRS, because a company like this can produce probably great sounding guitars and easily compete with Martin and Gibson.
The answer was that they are considering producing acoustics, but at least not the first 5 years

Hey upyerkilt, do you know other people doing this kind of stuff?

I was able, in THE NAPSTER period, together with an other big site: AUDIOGALAXY, to build an incredible collection.
EVERY SONG (until July 2001) from
- BEE GEES
- PAUL MCCARTNEY
- FLEETWOOD MAC
- Peter GREEN
- THE POLICE
- ZZ-TOP
- DAVID BOWIE
- TEN YEARS AFTER and a few more. What rests now is that bad habit to download, sounds stupid, but I had a CD player in my car, and while driving my car to go to sick people, I used to listen 6 Albums in 4-5 days. Now: It keeps me busy, and I stash them all.
It is weird, I want to have these songs, or groups, and I just listen when doing long distances, like visiting my sister in BERLIN.

I own a BACKPACKER Martin. You can also buy a "BABY TAYLOR", great sound, small guitar.
But the thing I love so bad using the "backpacker", is the SPECIAL sound. In fact that guitar is a problem for me, because I can not stand for 10 minutes, due to my car accident, and it is difficult playing when you sit. What I love most when playing the backpacker is the fact that the sound is between a GUITAR and BANJO, MANDOLINE?? I mean, they have a fantastic type of sound, and you can use it with a preamp, to play on stage, it gives a complete other sound, as I told. But I love my backpacker.
Are there other "travel" guitars, like taylor, ozark??

The more I am on this site the more I learn. ME, always "greedy" to have the best.
My point of view was: the more expensive, the better. One thing I discovered, there are more guitars, a lot less expensive, and at least, if not better, as good.
The only definition that still stands is: CLOTHES.
An expensive costume, choosing an everlasting colour, is always better. I had to throw away or give away cheap costumes, but I still use the expensive costumes, 15 year later.
About guitars: I am really in love with a beautiful EPIPHONE CUSTOM in ALPINE WHITE.
I found one for 300$ on eBay, but having that much guitars, and still a few months to go, costing me a lot of money, I wait and see. Boys, since I am here, a lot of "statues about guitars" felt down. Back with my feet on earth.

The best, in my eyes, were Dylan, and Axl Rose

THIS IS INCREDIBLE, AMAZING, FUNNY.

A guy named RICK MILLER performing BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY on YOUTUBE.
He uses voices and styles, like BOB DYLAN, METALLICA, AXL ROSE, ANDREA BOCELLI, MEATLOAF, and others.
One of the best things I saw on YOUTUBE.

Comedian Rick Miller performs Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody" using the 25 most annoying voices in the music industry. In order of impersonations: Bob Dylan Neil Young Michael Jackson....

Please go to youtube, search this guy, and please add your comment here.

Did those groups like dread zeppelin have albums?
Listen to the samples on amazon.com for the rutles, like I told, they are in fact NO cover- or tribute band, but a band composing, resulting in songs like the Beatles, difficult to hear a difference, and great to fool people.

First THANK YOU for all your answers.
I believe that here in my little country, the church & government are linked.
This is asking for trouble: some time ago, they decided to remove crosses in the classroom.
On the other hand, in the USA, because they are not linked, they have to provide themselves with $$, which can be a lot. Of course there are a lot of mysterious churches, asking a contribution only for the pocket of the "reverend"(exceptions of course). In England you can find, indeed, a lot of different churches.
In fact isn't it WEIRD, believing in Jesus, God and seeing all those churches.I thought that the "pelgrimfathers" came to the US, still an "empty country, because they had to leave OR die, just because the "SPANISH" ruled in almost entire Europe? It was also in that "time zone" you could get the deathpenalty just by catching a rabbit . It must have been a cruel time.
One of the major reasons of problems in the CATHOLIC" churches, is the obligation to stay single as priest, and I think this is also the last "only men" bastion.
I remember me very good that in 1985-1989, we went often visiting the priest who married us, he was responsible for young and "fresh" priests, that on a day they asked him, if homosexuality was allowed!!! He said NO, and from the 10 "going to be priests", only 4 remained.
WHY ARE WOMEN EXCLUDED TO BECOME A PRIEST, WHY THIS CELIBATE IS NEEDED.
The origin of CELIBATE started somewhere in the 9th century. Most of the priest came out powerful, noble families. If he should marry, and die years later, all the money went to the wife and children, but now: THAT MONEY WAS FOR THE CHURCH.
It is so difficult.

In Blues it is used more, but Am I right to say that these guitars are almost acoustic guitars, but full top and F-HOLES?

About the Beatles: Lennon and McCartney were great, but the numbers George has written, are probably the best songs the Beatles wrote. I am not talking about "yesterday", but the songs Harisson wrote are probably the most covered songs in Music land.
About all the chords he used, you can skip a lot of chords, without changing the essence of his songs.

Well, I had an Ovation, the type that is made in limited editions, once a year. But, I had so much trouble, playing: always the pre amp, and changing the battery.
So, no Ovation actually, but my brother adores Ovation, and bought one some months ago, and I had the occasion to play a few hours, sounds perfect.
I have still the impression that the brand TAKAMINE is getting more and more popular.

I am spending a lot of time here on CHORDIE, and I noticed that there are a lot of questions about "playing music in church". I don't know if this phenomenon is here in Europe too.
We have, speaking of "CHRISTIAN" religion, 4 main churches.
- Catholic
- Protestant
- Anglican Church (since Henry VIII, because he was not allowed to divorce and marry again)
- Orthodox (Greek, Russia..)
The most religous countries in Europe are Ireland, Spain, and maybe less Italy)
So that's the reason of my question, knowing that there are a lot of followers of a certain religion.
Baptists, New Born Christians.
Can someone explain me more about religion in the USA, I know, (from seeing on Television), that Afro-Americans have a high culture in religion, with interaction between the priest and the people, with a lot of singing, gospel.
