Thank you Southpaw, coal mining was a very dangerous job.
Today the coal mines that operated since 1720 in Cape Breton are all closed down. When coal was king on Cape Breton it empolyed over 12,000 men. Seems everything in our town of Glace Bay was run on coal. Today young people have to leave town and go to Alberta or other places to find jobs. The economy in Glace Bay and surrounding areas is in bad shape. There is some talk of opening a new mine but seems to be always delayed by goverment. It is so bad that the school kids find it hard to get homework.[joke]

thanks again... Badeye.

Thank you Old Doll,I enjoyed reading your post.

At 8:06 pm, October 28 1958,A tremendous roar shook every home in Springhill, dishes rattled, windows cracked and telephones throughout town went dead. It could be felt in town miles from the mine.It left 76 men dead with 11 trapped 13 thousand feet underground. My dad and his
draegerman crew were the first to reach those miners that were still alive. He talked about the horror of finding the dead miners and the joy of finding the 11 that survived. The story goes to say that after 5 days their food and water ran out so they lived on hope and songs to keep sane. Prince Phillip of England presented my dads crew with Gold rings for bravery. There is only five known rings in the world.

CBC telivision has footage of the rescue and you can see my dad bringing the first alive miner to the surface. My dad was a coal miner for forty years and well respected in our town which I am very proud of. When he passed on he left the ring to me and I will pass it on to a nephew when the time comes.

Roger Guppy recorded "The Ballad Of Springhill" and is a beautiful version of the events at Springhill. Thanks Roger.
I have a book of coal mining songs that I like to play
as it reminds me of my father.

Thanks... Badeye.

Yikes, "If I Had A Rocket Launcher" by Bruce Cockburn. War
doesn't solve much. Watched an interview with Ringo Starr
and his dream is Peace. The world should dream the same.
Will it ever happen????

Has anyones guitar top faded? Mine is a little over two years old and when I purchased it the color on the spruce top was a
real light blond color, It has faded nicley and got a little darker which I like. Oh and it seems to sound better all the time, which
could be my playing improving.

Minglewood played a second show last nite, I could'nt help
myself and went again.

...Badeye.

Wow,I got to see my music hero last nite. Matt Minglewood played a one man show last nite at Fundy Folk,
which hosts artist in a century old church that is a great venue. I've followed minglewood since 1971 when he played in a band called 'Universal Power" which turned into
"The Minglewood Band". Earlier in his carrer he played guitar in bands called."Pepper Tree" and also "The Rockin Saints" Last nite he did a one man show called "The Story'
which accounts his musical journey and the fun things that happened to him and his band. He is now 61 years old and
to me has gotten better over the years. He played with such
greats as B.B King, Buddy Guy, Jeff Healy, Marshall Tucker,
and can hold is own with the best.  I got him to sign three
albums and he was surprised to see the first album he made with  the Minglewood Band. His brand of music is rock and blues and last nite he made it all blue. The place was sold out and evceryone raved about him afterwards.Over
the years I've seen him play about 30 times and never been
disappointed. He says he's not gonna stop and is working on
another album which I will add to my collection. So ya long
live Minglewood.

I use the feature to the right of the song to transpose songs. Check it out. It's a cool feature. Also auto scroll.

...Badeye.

browse artist for songs and chords here on chordie, you can also transpose the chords to suit your playing.

Try "Nobody Does It Better"  by  Carly Simon, good tune for both genders, or "Killing Me Softly" by Roberta Flack.

  good luck... Badeye.

I agree Russell, it was a great time in music history, even the country music was better back then, I listen mostly to the blues of the past or 70's rock.
