Thanks James and Brad.  I wrote this mainly due spending the night trying to figure out what’s wrong with this s/w I got but it turned out to be my cables so I need to get some more. So, it is most likely that there will be no recording at least until this weekend at the earliest.

I hadn’t planned on writing this but it was a running around in my head. Had a long night that ended with me needing to get a (new) stereo cable and adapter for plugging my microphone into the USB input device that came with the software I have. I thought why waste the opportunity - I'm still spending my evenings trying to record. <img src="images/smiley_icons/icon_biggrin.gif" border=0 alt="Very Happy">

Trying to Work it Through By Jeff Gilpin

April 4, 2007

Verse 1

[D]It gets so frustrating

As you’re [F#]working through the night

[G]Trying to work it through

And to [Gm]get it working right

But keep [D]at it

And you [A]know you’ll work it [D] through[A]

Verse 2

[D]It’s always something stupid

That you [F#]think you should have got

[G]But we’re all only human

Al[Gm]though some think their not

So keep [D]at it

And you [A]know you’ll work it [D] through[A]

Chorus

[F#]Don’t give up; keep at [G]it, you’re almost [D]there

[F#] What ever it takes just do [A]it and don’t des[A7]pair

Verse 3

[D]As you try to muddle through

All the [F#]problems that you’ve got

[G]Keep whittling them away

And you’ll [Gm]find they’re not a lot

So keep [D]at it

And you [A]know you’ll work it [D] through[A]

Verse 4

[D]If it helps to make it easier

Think of [F#]all who’ve come before

[G]Think of all their hardships

And how [Gm]many have been through more

So keep [D]at it

And you [A]know you’ll work it [D] through[A]

Chorus

[F#]Don’t give up; keep at [G]it, you’re almost [D]there

[F#] What ever it takes just do [A]it and don’t des[A7]pair

Verse 5

[D]Whatever comes along in life

That [F#]seems to tough a task

[G]You should know what to do

Yeah, you [Gm]shouldn’t have to ask

Just keep [D]at it

And you [A]know you’ll work it [D] through[Gm] [F#] [D]

Okay, I think everyone can relate to this song. I kind of made up the dream but I'm sure I've had one or three like it. It should be played fast on the verses, like you're late for work, and a little slower on the breaks, which is more like a daydream going on.

Waking Up Late By Jeff Gilpin

April 1, 2007

Verse 1

[E]Waking up [E7]late and [E]I’m in for it [E7]now

I [G]hop out of bed no [D]time for a shower

A splash of [E]water on my [E7]face will [E]have to [E7]do

I [G]woke up late 'cause I was [D]dreaming of you

Verse 2

Now I’m [E]throwing on [E7]clothes and [E]cussing up a [E7]storm

[G]Run outside so I can [D]get the car warm

A [E]swallow of [E7]milk and a [E]thin slice of [E7]bread

[G]Trying to get you [D]out of my head

Break 1

[D7]You were looking in my [F]eyes

[C]I was staring back at [G]you

[D7]I could tell by your [F]stare

[C]What you wanted to [G]do

[D7]So I walked over to [F]you

[C]But you met me half[G]way

[D7]I took you in my [F]arms

[C]As you started to [E7]say that you…

Verse 3

[E]A car horn [E7]blaring [E]woke up my [E7]ass

[G]He gave me the finger as he [D]drove on past

[E]My heart was beating [E7]fast as I’m [E]pulling a[E7]way

[G]I stomp on the gas and I [D]think of the day

Verse 4

[E]Then I think of my [E7]dream back [E]when I was [E7]sleeping

[G]Paying for the interesting [D]hours I’m keeping

[E]I can’t help but [E7]grin as I'm [E]waiting at the [E7]light

[G]You were gonna say something as [D]I held you tight

Break 2

[D7]You said, “Come sit with [F]me

[C]And I said that I [G]would

[D7]Thinking what am I [F]doing

And [C]wondering if I [G]should

[D7]So I go sit [F]down

And [C]you slide over [G]near

[D7]Then you speak real [F]soft

[C]Words I barely hear to [E7]hear

Verse 5

But the [E]light’s been [E7]green and the [E]horns are a [E7]blowing

So [G]I hit the gas and [D]get the car going

Start [E]cruising down the [E7]road, turn [E]on the radi[E7]o

And the [G]cars doing fine like it [D]knows where to go

Verse 6

About [E]two hours [E7]later I [E]make it to [E7]work

I [G]rush to my desk and my [D]boss, he’s a jerk,

He says, “What [E]took you so [E7]long and [E]you’re staying [E7]late

The [G]start of a day I’m sure to [D]hate.

Ends with the break music.

Hey Donna. Nice sad song that I think most everyone can relate to. You know I went to see if it was posted on your myspace but not yet I guess. I might have been playing it too fast but that's how it sounded in my head. Played with a little impatient frustration...like that.

Hey Donna,

I'm anything but clever but I liked the sounds of the chords when played together so the trick is this. Start on A6 which is xx2222; then to Cmaj7 which is x32000; then to the first tricky chord the FMaj7 which is x33210;

then the next tricky chord the Cm which is x13321 and then back to the A6. The Chorus is pretty simple with the only tough chord being the Fmaj7. For the verse I just slid my hand up the neck and over from the Fmaj7 to the Cm and it does take a little getting use to. Sometimes I miss the A string on the Cm which makes it xx3321 which still sounds pretty good. Give it a try and see what you think.

[D]God I miss the friends I’ve [A]known

It [G]don’t matter any longer to [D]me[A] [G]

Because the [C]journey’s been [G]well worth the [D]ride

Verse 3

[D]Many are starting their own [A]trails

[G]I hope their lives will be [D]happy

[C]And that their [G]lives will be satis[D]fied

If [G]not they’ll need to start an I hope [D]they’ll see [A] [G]

Break

[C]Lord, keep my friends safe and sound

And [A]let our paths someday cross [G]again

[C]We’ll go out; I’ll show them the [G]sites of the town

The [E]past is great but the future’s just [A]waitin' [A7]

Verse 4

[C]Life will go on with out [D]me

Both the [D]good, bad, right and the [A]wrong

[C]Will continue onward endless[D]ly

Chorus 4

[G]I hope everyone will be [D]happy

[C]And that their [G]lives will be satis[D]fied

If [G]not they can start an I hope [D]they will see [A] [G]

Hey Donna, glad you liked it. I like the sound of sad songs for some reason. Country is a good fit for it that's for sure.

So, this song comes from my wife really, who's Japanese. She left a note welcoming our daughter home today from a visit to her boyfriend in Florida, which is her getting ready to move in down there but that was what She’s Gone was about. Seeing the Japanese word Okaeri, which translates into welcome back or welcome home, written down just reminded me how much our family says it just as an everyday phrase and how sometimes we take it for granted. So I decided to use it in a song about my son who’s in the army and how we want him back for good as well. It’s a bit of a tear jerker but I’m sure you all can hold ‘em in. Now the important part: Okaeri, is pronounced like this - O is oh, is kae is like kai in a Kaiser roll, ri is a little tough, it like dee but a soft d. I know you're all saying, "Huh?" So  you can say it like D the chord and get away with it, unless you're Japanese of course. Again, you’ll all hear for yourself once I figure out my recording sw. It’s sung kind of country folk-ish and I hope you all like it.

Okaeri or Welcome Home by Jeff Gilpin

Okae[C]re, welcome [G]home, Okae[F]ri[C]

It’s [G]good to [F]have you home a[C]gain

Verse 4

[C]Now we [F]wait for the [C]day

This was one from my list of ideas that I believe James mentioned it was good jot down as you think of them. It's something I say to my kids when they have a long drive or are going out...I usually get a message like "I didn't get runned down by the tractor trailer" letting me know they got there. They kind of humor me because they know I worry. Hope you like it.

Watch out for the Tractor Trailer By Jeff Gilpin

March 27, 2007

Verse 1

[Am]You go through life as happy as can be

Every[F]thing coming as easy as you please

Just be[C]ware because sooner or [G]later

You gotta watch out for that tractor [Am]trailer

Verse 2

See for [Am]some folks things come easy I know

[F]Everything in order, always on the go

But they [C]better be wary for the [G]day

When the tractor trailer comes their [Am]way

Chorus

[F]Doesn’t matter if you’re [C]smart are [G]dumb

[F]It’s gonna happen either [C]way

[F]Life’s great then like a [C]shot from a [G]gun

[F]And you see things in a different [G]way

So be [F]ready cause sooner or [G]later

You got to watch out for that tractor [Am]trailer

Verse 3

You’ll be [Am]cruising about just singing a song

[F]Thinking you’ll get there before too long

[C]Then from the very edge of your [G]sight

You’ll see the tractor trailer [Am]lights

Chorus

[F]Doesn’t matter if you’re [C]smart are [G]dumb

[F]It’s gonna happen either [C]way

[F]Life’s great then like a [C]shot from a [G]gun

[F]And you see things in a different [G]way

Be [F]ready for it cause sooner or [G]later

You got to watch out for that tractor [Am]trailer

Break

Your [F]trailer might come in a different [G]form

It could be a [F]flood or [C]fierce snow [G]storm

There’s [F]not telling what your trailer may[G]be

But you [F]have to be looking or else you wont [C]see

Cause sooner or [G]later…[Am]

Verse 4

You’ll be [Am]walking along without a care

[F]Thinking of all places you’d rather be there

[C]Cross street thinking what a great life you [G]live

Tractor Trailers don’t for[Am]give

Chorus

[F]Doesn’t matter if you’re [C]smart are [G]dumb

[F]It’s gonna happen either [C]way

[F]Life’s great then like a [C]shot from a [G]gun

[F]And you see things in a different [G]way

Be [F]ready for it cause sooner or [G]later

You got to watch out for that tractor [Am]trailer
