It's a near constant assault now.  I think I've banned someone every day this week (except today), and on Thursday morning of last week I banned seven people, then had a different moderator come along and ban someone who I wasn't so sure about (he turned out to be a spammer extra-ordinaire, so much for compassion, eh?).  Before last week, I don't think I've banned more than one spammer a month.

I read that the FBI and Interpol just cracked some major code used by spam-bots in Eastern Europe and the Phillipines (where much of the spammers I've banned were from).  That could help relatively soon, but it takes a while for them to filter through all the chaffe to find the controlled computers.

True, it's really been quiet for a while as far as spam goes... and then the last two weeks have been crazy.  Best part, you KNOW they're bots of some sort because each of them is posting 17 messages.  WEIRD number, but ok whatev!

I'm excited to hear about the FBI and Interpol cracking a major code!  That gives me hope that this onslaught will end soon, but then... us mods will be back to just lounging around the site trying to find someone to bully (lol... just kidding... oh wait, deadstring has volunteered to be a "problem" this could come in handy when we get bored!)

BGD - I don't think the forum software allows settings for forum links to be shut off based on status... I think the only settings controllable by status is within the profile, but I'm not so sure about that.  This is the type of thing for Roger or our fearless leader Per to handle.  I have NO DOUBT that Roger will see this thread soon and comment on that.

Have a GREAT day Chordians!!!!

Sounds like an excellent idea to me!  I'd rather see a guy with a little weight on him, than a scrawny lil thing with nothing.  Men are lucky that way.  tongue

Hey all... just wanted to BUMP this post AND thank those of you that have been reporting spam, it is GREATLY appreciated!!

Please note that there are currently some spam posts on the forum that HAVE been reported already, it's just a matter of waiting for the moderator of that particular section to get online to remove the spam.  If the member has already been banned, then chances are that the spam has already been reported.  Please be patient!  We've been getting a couple "new members" that post about 17 spam messages at a time before we catch them and they're posting in many different sections.  THANK YOU!!!!!

Amy

Congrats!  The goals and rewards sound excellent, keep up the great work!

I'd rather hang out with a bunch of humble guitar players than snobs though... but I agree and was laughing especially when some of the guys who have been playing for a LONG time claimed "beginner" status.  smile  Love you all!

Nice catch Zurf... and here you thought all you'd catch today was a couple fish!

Quite a good price for sure, although, I'm convinced I'd have to play a guitar to know for sure if I wanted to bring it home to meet the folks smile

practicing into a mic is an EXCELLENT idea!  If I had a few extra bucks, I'd go buy myself a mic and try that.  I bet it will help a LOT!

oops... yes it is an oldish thread, there was far more current updates on the weight loss since the induction of the scale.  You've been doing QUITE a bit of working out on the rivers and such so I sure do hope the change in routine helps you break that plateau!  I'm up for drinks of celebration or commiseration.  Sounds like a plan!

I see Jcillini is heading to the Martin Factory today.  I just looked up some info and found that it's NEARLY on our way to VA.  Possible if we get to leave the house on Thursday we could stop on the way south.  This trip could turn out to be amazing!!

Thank you Bswyers for the link.  I'll be sure to have the hubby check it out.

Zurf let us know what you find out about electricity.  Paul, are you seriously considering a tattoo??  smile  If anyone is, and you're scared lol I'll go first.  He never has time to do mine, so this wouldn't be a bad time to do it... although I'm going to continue to harass him before we leave.  I'd rather mine be done before then.  I've only been waiting a year (but then, he tends to wait for his haircuts for a couple months not every 4-6 weeks.  LOL)

I purchased what was needed yesterday for nails.  I'll be able to show you what the different wraps look like... show how to apply... and let you all play with the products I have.  What I buy is enough to do LOTS of nails, but you can purchase the same products at Sally's Beauty Supply (open to the public and Zurf says there's one nearby... plus there's one in nearly every city as far as i know) as a "starter kit" which will be sufficient to do your own with for a guitarist.

oooo I just looked and this is only about a 1/2 hour out of our way on the trip to VA (or home).  Let me know how all went when you got there, if you got in right away or if there was a several hour wait for the tour.  This might just be part of the trip to the July Jam!

I guess just crossing the state's boarder to buy fireworks (illegal in NY, legal in PA) isn't good enough.  I did go to the Cesar's Pocono Resort in PA for my honeymoon a while ago.  I've driven through a few times (and will again for the July Jam)... but I guess it's time to add that to the list of things we MUST do.  Martin factory as well as Hershey's.  I can't think of too many things better than guitars or chocolate.

Have fun and please do take some pictures if they'll allow it!  smile  If you need help posting them on your return, drop me an email.

YAY!  I'm glad to hear that you've lost some weight since your last visit.  I only hope your scale and the doc's are in "tune".  I'll never forget feeling soooo good about myself having lost 15 pounds only to visit the doctor and find out according to them I'd only lost 5 sad

Selso... AWESOME to hear you've put some weight on too, since it was your goal.

Here's hoping you both can maintain a nice healthy weight or continue to lose/gain as necessary and not stress.  smile

So the hubster (BTW his name is Jim) is wondering if he should bring his tattoo equipment with him?  As long as there's clean water and electricity he can make a sterile environment.  If anyone that's coming is interested, please let me know so he can plan accordingly (if I don't hear from anyone then he will leave everything home).

He also has another request... he would LOVE someone to teach him some beginner basics on the bottleneck slide.  He is not only in love with me, but he's also in love with the blues (as well as extreme heavy metal LOL).  THANKS!

I'm heading to the beauty supply store tomorrow to grab some nail supplies to make sure I have everything needed for the "Guitarist Nail Care Seminar".  If anyone needs anything else let me know!  smile  I get quite a discount on professional beauty supplies (aka Paul Mitchell, American Crew, etc ... name brand hair products and such).  I am UBER EXCITED about this trip!  I can't believe it's so close, and yet... it can't get here soon enough.  The kids have only had a few days of summer vacation and I'm ready to escape from them already.  We also have a new puppy who likes to get up every two hours in the middle of the night and of course MOM has to do it all.  Just some time to chill without being needed constantly ... I can't wait!

Very sorry to hear of the loss of your friend.  My condolences to you and his family and other friends as well.  Life surely is too short.

I'm not sure, I looked the fishman tuner up online and it looks like it works similarly.  I like the bright colors of the snark though.  VERY easy to see, and it's super accurate.

hey Kenny!  I used to have serious anxiety issues when in crowded places (and still have a twinge of clausterphobia).  I was taught how to breathe into my hands in the event a paper bag wasn't available and above all else to continue going to the places where I was uncomfortable and learn how to deal with it.  To this day I sleep on the side of the bed near the door, must sit in the isle seat in an auditorium, etc... but I can handle crowds without a panic attack, and know when to walk out of one seemly calm without going over the edge.  Being nervous in crowds tends to make one start to appear nervous in public in general.  The good news is, on stage it'll just be you and a couple other folks... the crowd will be far enough away that they won't all be bumping into you!  smile  Yes, they'll be watching... but only because they WANT to see and hear how awesome you are.  Take some controlled deep slow breaths before heading out there and do as everyone here has said and I have faith that you'll make it though and do an awesome job!  I like Roger's idea especially of picking just one person to sing to... or perhaps just one THING (some post or light or something off in the distance to focus on and just let them all think you're looking at the audience).  Good luck!!
