The Counting Song By Jeff Gilpin

April 15, 2007

Verse 1

[G]I been able to count since I was just a kid[G7]

I was [C]king of the game of seeking those that were [G]hid[G7]

I [D]got real good by trying a trick or two

And [C]if you’re nice I guess I could show it to [G7]you

Chorus 1

[C]One, two three, four, five, six, seven, eight, [G]nine

[D]I would be done counting and [C]find everyone I no [G]time

[C]Nine eight seven six five four three two [G]one

Yeah if you [D]sing as you count you’re [C]going to make it much more [G]fun[D]

Verse 2

[G]When I was grown I went to work for Uncle Sam

He [C]broke me, and built me and helped me learn who I [G]am

He [D]sent me to places where I had to learn again

So [C]here’s how I counted in one of the places I [G7]been

Chorus 2

[C]Eins, zwei, drie, vier, fnf, sechs, sieben, and [G]acht

[D]That’s counting in German and you [C]just don’t want to [G]stop

[C]Acht, sieben, sechs, fnf, vier, drie, zwei, and [G]eins

[D]That’s how they count in Munich, Man[C]heim, Hamburg and [G]Mainz[D]

Verse 3

[G]Then I got sent to the land of the rising sun

I [C]had to learn all over how counting was [G]done

It [D]didn’t take long before I was counting once more

And I [C]learned to count just like I had learned be[G7]fore

Chorus 3

[C]Ichi, nie, san, shi, go, roku, shichi, hachi, [G]kyu

[D]Singing the numbers made it [C]easy for me to [G]do

[C]Kyu, hachi, shichi, roku, go, shi, san, nie, i[G]chi

I [D]put them in a song and it [C]made learning easy for [G]me[D]

Verse 4

I [G]came back home and settled near Washington, DC

[C]Where I thought counting wouldn’t be a problem for [G]me

To my [D]surprise I found I couldn’t be more wrong

Once a[C]gain I had to break out my counting [G7]song

Chorus 4

[C]Uno, dos, tres, cuatro, cinco, seis, siete, o[G]cho

[D]Counting in America is [C]not just in English you [G]know

[C]Ocho, siete, seis, cinco, cuatro, tres, dos, u[G]no

You got to [D]hablo espaol now to [C]get where you want to [G]go

spoken

Here we go

Break 1

[G]One, two three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine

[G]Eins, zwei, drie, vier, fnf, sechs, sieben, acht, [G7]nuen

[C]Ichi, nie, san, shi, go, roku, shichi, hachi, [G]kyu

[D]Uno, dos, tres, cuatro, [C]cinco, seis, siete, ocho, [G]nueve[D]

spoken

Now backwards:

Break 2

[G]Nine eight seven six five four three two, one

[G]Nuen, acht, sieben, sechs, fnf, vier, drie, zwei, and [G7]eins

[C]Kyu, hachi, shichi, roku, go, shi, san, nie, i[G]chi

[D]Nueve, ocho, siete, seis, [C]cinco, cuatro, tres, dos, u[G]no[D]

Ending

Now you’re [C]counting like a champ and you can’t go wrong

If you [D]need to learn some more just use the counting [C]song[G7]

Hey Per,

That would work for me. Maybe we could call it Member Written songs or something like that and reserve it only for songs user with manditory blocks where only the posters/authors name is automatically filled-in. I'm just trying to think of ways to make it work.

Thanks,

I Can’t Wait to get Home to You By Jeff Gilpin

April 10, 2007

Verse 1

[G]A long day earning that pay

[Em]Doing what I do

[G]Working hard from the crack of dawn

[Em]Just like I’m supposed to

[C]I’m packing up and I'm [D]putting away

My [Em]day’s almost through

[C]I just got one [D]thought:

[D]I Can’t wait to [G]get [F]home to [C]you[G]

Verse 2

[G]I put up with a lot

[Em]You know that’s true

I [G]let nothing get me down

Or [Em]change my view

But [C]when I’m about [D]done

And I’m [Em]leaving work in a few

Only one [C]thing is on my [D]mind

[D]I Can’t wait to [G]get [F]home to [C]you[G]

Break

[C]The weekend is much too [G]short

I [F]wish time would just slow [Em]down

But [C]it’s almost [G]heaven

Just to [F]have you a[D]round

Just [C]doing simple [G]things

With [F]you is my greatest [Em]pleasure

I [C]fill my mind's eye with [G]your pictures

[F]They are my hidden [D]treasure

Verse 3

[G]O dark on a Monday morn

[Em]Starting the day off feeling blue

[G]But the day soon picks up speed

And [Em]I got a lot of work to do

Yeah [C]It’s a long [D]week away

Until my [Em]spirit can be renewed

So [C]I'll keep [D]plugging alone

[D]I Can’t wait to [G]get [F]home to [C]you[G]

I blame this one on James. He got me thinking country...well more country than usual. It's just some simple verses with a few key changes that I thought was fun. So here you go.

Spend the Day With You Jeff Gilpin

April 09, 2007

[E]I would spend the [B7]day with you

And I’d spend the [E]nighttime too

We could dance we could talk we could [A]go out for a walk

Then I could [E]spend a[B7]nother day with [E]you

[E]I’m not sure what we would [B7]do

What ever you [E]wanted to

We could laugh we could grin and we'd [A7]start all over again

Then I could [E]spend a[B7]nother day with [E]you[A7]

[A]I would spend the [E7]day with you

And I’d spend the [A]nighttime too

We could dance we could talk we could [D]go out for a walk

Then I could [A]spend a[E7]nother day with [A]you

[A]I’m not sure what we would [E7]do

What ever you [A]wanted to

We could laugh we could grin and we'd [D]start all over again

Then I could [A]spend a[E7]nother day with [A]you[D7]

[D]I would spend the [A7]day with you

And I’d spend the [D]nighttime too

We could dance we could talk we could [G]go out for a walk

Then I could [D]spend a[A7]nother day with [D]you

[D]I’m not sure what we would [A7]do

Speaking as an old western NC boy, that was purty! It also got me a litte bit homesick. Great song that had my toe tapping. I think I added a little yeehaw to the lyric a time or two as well.

Hey James, thank you. I'll keep at it. BTW, I just finished recording Seasons and sent it on to Roger to put on the Friends of Chordie site. It was a bit tougher both playing and singing.

I got this idea when I went to a concert back in March and I saw a sign for East Southwest Street while I was stopped at a light. I was thinking that I would not want to get lost around here so here's the song:

Somewhere North of East Southwest Street By Jeff Gilpin

April 8, 2007

Verse 1

This [F]world can [C]get you [Am]turned a[E]round

It’s [F]easy to [Bb]forget where the [C]heck you are

You [F]search until a fa[C]miliar [Am]street sign‘s [E]found

Then [F]hopefully you [Bb]goal won’t [C]be too [F]far

Verse 2

[F]It doesn’t [C]matter when you’re [Am]out on your [E]own

And you’re [F]just trying to [Bb]make your way through [C]life

Your [F]destination [C]could be just a [Am]throw of a [E]stone

If [F]only you knew which [Bb]way to [C]end your [F]strife

Chorus1

I’m [Bb]somewhere [F]north of [C]East Southwest [Dm]Street

I [Bb]don’t know how much [F]further I have to [C]go[C7]

I [Bb]see quite a few [F]people I’m not [C]sure I want to [Dm]meet

And I do [Bb]not want to be [C]late for the [F]show

Verse 3

[F]Funny how [C]life will throw [Am]stuff in your [E]path

[F]When you have some[Bb]where you have to [C]be

You’ve [F]got to [C]keep your cool and [Am]maybe even [E]laugh

[F]It’ll be funny [Bb]later even [C]if now you don’t [F]see

Verse 4

You [F]want to pull [C]over and [Am]check out the [E]map

[F]Bad idea as you [Bb]scope out the neighbor[C]hood

[F]You ponder as [C]you start heading [Am]up the wrong [E]ramp

Thinking, [F]lordy no way that [Bb]this can [C]come to [F]good

Chorus 2

I’m [Bb]somewhere [F]south of [C]East Southwest [Dm]Street

I [Bb]don’t know how much [F]further I have to [C]go[C7]

I [Bb]see quite a few [F]people I’m not [C]sure I want to [Dm]meet

And I do [Bb]not want to be [C]late for the [F]show

Break

[C]Finally there’s a [Bb]familiar [F]sign

So you [C]turn around and make the [Bb]show on [F]time

Your [C]troubles are all [Bb]put far be[F]hind

And your [C]worries slip away as the [C7]band starts to play

music only

[Bb] [F] [C] [Dm] [Bb] [F] [C] [C7] [Bb] [F] [C] [Dm] [Bb] [C] [F]

Verse 5

So the [F]shows over and [C]you start [Am]heading [E]home

With the [F]music still [Bb]ringing in your [C]ears

Re[F]membering your night of [C]music your [Am]mind starts to [E]roam

But [F]then you look a[Bb]round as [C]you’re shifting [F]gears

Verse 6

"[F]Was this the [C]street I came in on [Am]earlier to[E]night?"

You’re [F]thinking as you [Bb]cruise on down the [C]road

[F]Looking around you [C]realize you [Am]didn’t get it [E]right

As you [F]get into your "[Bb]where the hell [C]am I" [F]mode

Chorus 3

I’m [Bb]somewhere [F]east of [C]South Northwest [Dm]Street

I [Bb]don’t know how much [F]further I can [C]drive[C7]

I [Bb]see quite a few [F]people I’m not [C]sure I want to [Dm]meet

And I do [Bb]know I want to [C]make it home a[F]live

[Dm]Make it [C]home a[F]live [Bb] [F]

Hey Roger,

This software (Sessions - by M-Audio)lets me record separate tracks but I haven't figured how to record just the chorus or verse and then paste them together. Its also a low end solution but to use this you need a microphone input that is 1/8" stereo like a headphone. I found it at our local RadioShack.. I kept beating myself up because I was using a 1/8" mono input at first and I didn't hear a thing coming in. I just recorded my guitar track first and my vocal second with the metronome keeping me from getting too ahead of myself. Again It's my first and I hope to get better. Badeye, lets get on the stick.

Thanks James - Glad to finally get one of mine recorded. It's going to be a tough transition getting use to my daughter moving away but it's part of life. I hope we still keep our close relationship. I hope to get another song recorded today but I have found that it is not an easy process. She's Gone, which is a relatively easy song to play took awhile to get it down right. I'm wondering how it will go for my more difficult songs to play like A Walk in the Woods. That one I might put off recording for a while as I still make a few mistakes on it. The Fmaj7 to Cm transition is not easy but I'm working on it.

I finally recorded a song, She's gone, yesterday and sent it to Roger to load on to the Friends of Chordie Myspace page so look for that, but in the meantime here is a new song from me. This on I wrote for my wife. One of her favorite pieces of music is Vivaldi's Four Seasons so I kind of used the seasons as a way to express my love for her. I hope you all like it.
