You might like the Ibanez Talman. It comes in 3 different models ranging from $170 to $300. They have an electric sized body and the neck feels just like one on an electric. The tone unplugged isn't very big but when it's plugged in it really comes alive. I almost got one once but i'm 6'4 and large framed with big hands so a small guitar is more of a hassle for me.

I think lessons to those that can afford them are very worth while because you learn so much more. Music theory is very useful and needed to understand all of the aspects of playing guitar. Now as for the lead playing. There are many lead pickers that play acoustic. Alot of fingerstyle players are concidered as lead players. Playing scales up and down the neck helps to gain the "lead" style of playing. As for the volume of play try using a thinner pick like a .50 or smaller for strumming and even picking to lighten the volume. Just hold it with a firm but not too firm grip and use a lighter attack and you should be ok not to wake anyone.

Bimman i was in the same situation as you a few years ago. I was shy still am a little and i didn't think i sung very well. I kept trying and practicing with and without the guitar. Now i feel confident that i sing and play guitar alot better. My ear had to be trained to the key i wanted to sing in. Using a capo helps alot and the more you exercise your voice the better it gets. Remember to control your breathing and sing loud and proud.

I've never heard of it. Is it a movie about the Beatles?

When i started i got a Jasmine S35 by Takamine for $90 and it has held up for over 10 years. It plays really well and i still choose to play it over my more expensive guitars most of the time. I have looked and haven't found any better in this price range.

Crevs does it have the nano  flex and nano mag pickups on it or does it just have the regular shdow pickup? I think some of these do but it's hard to find those in the guitar shops. Congrats on your new toy enjoy. I know i will as soon as i get mine. smile

Hey Zurf if you like Bluegrass/Jamband type stuff you have to check out Mountain Heart they are really good. Larry Sparks is another good one that you might have heard of.

Most electric guitars can be adjusted to play the way you would like but to get the tone or sound you desire is according to the amp and effects that produce it. I think it has alot to do with the player and how well he can play. I'm sure if i got an Eric Clapton series Strat i couldn't get anywhere the same sound from it as he does.

badeye that one looks alot like folsom prison blues and i like it alot. I also like EM C G D it is simple and can produce alot of songs when used in a pick and strum combination while adding your 7th notes in different places in the progression.

Just as others have already metioned i too practice " new chords" and stretch my fretting fingers. One other thing i do which may be normal for alot of people is that i practice playing in different keys other than what i usually sing in then i capo it so it will match my voice.

Jamey Johnson and Brad Paisley write thier own stuff and produce really big hits. I think there would be alot more of this kind but the way the music industry is about marketabilty stops it. You have to have a certain look or background to be accepted as marketable. I'm sure alot of the songs making it today come from the mind and heart of some old guy or girl that just doesn't have the looks. To be honest probably could do a better job at it than the ones getting all the credit.

Hey Kajima I think it would make a good song in a punk metal type way. The topic of Bullying is something that can overload ones emotions if he happens to be the one bullied. Good Job. smile

I can't stand the saying " Dats what i'm talkin bout" and "Know what i mean" because most of the time it has nothing to do with the conversation.

If i had a band to name it would be called " Everywhere" because thats where i'd want it to be.
That or i'd call it "Forgiven" because thats what i am.

Joan Jett and Allison Krauss and Alanis Morriset are very good musicians. I see nothing wrong with women playing instruments. If they can do it more power to them. I will support those that deserve it.

I just saw the Buddy Holly Story and it was ok. Great Balls of Fire is a good movie about Jerry Lee Lewis. My favorite was Walk The Line though. Then theres Some Kind Of Monster which is about Metallica in a documentary of the making of the album that was pretty good if you like Metallica.I can't think of any more i've seen.

Work on learning a few new chords like A, E, F, B, AM, DM, BM & FM then the barre chords and so on and how to transition to and from each of them to the other. When you get that done you can play thousands of songs. Just don't give up and remember to practice alot. I started out the same way you have and then progressed from there to having my wife and kids and pretty much anyone that hears me play and sing tell me that i'm really good. I will always feel that i'm not progressing like i wished but i've come to realize that i will always feel that way as long as i compare myself to the musicians i listen to everyday on the radio or the seasoned professionals. Stay with it and before long you will be finding different and better ways to play their songs and helping those in the same place that you're in now.

First of all Welcome to Chordie. Now the Fender Acoustisonic amp would be a very nice choice for any acoustic/electric guitar and it would bring out the real acoustic tone of your Stratacoustic. I have tried one and it sounds very good with any a/e guitar.

Have you tried cupping your left hand and arching your wrist more to get the ring finger to go over? If you can do that then you could use your pinky on the A string. Then to get more from your full bar try using your middle finger on top of your index. Two fingers are surley stronger than one. I hope this helps you. I know if i had to play lefty i would have the same problem as you.

I don't know...   Sounds like work.    Did you not see that I have amnesty?

Yes you do but wouldn't it be nice to know that you have beaten the evil B chord completly. It's just a slight move that could possibly help you with all of the barre chords. Either way i'm glad for you. smile

I learned to form a full bar on the second fret with my index finger and a partial bar on the forth fret on the G,D and A strings with my ring finger to make the B chord. The high E is included in the full bar. Is this correct or have i been doing it wrong? Either way it always sounds good to me.

That's the way I've been doing it, but my ring finger just doesn't bend enough to get over the high e, so the high e is muted by my ring finger.  My index does a full barre across all six strings.  I've got the full barre down OK, though I need more finger strength to really make it ring.  It's the barre on G,D,A that mutes the high e for me.

With amnesty from Russell and validation from both sides of the pond that muting is not only acceptable but preferred, I'm feeling pretty good with my relationship with the B chord.  I can't get to it fast yet, but that's only a matter of practice.  One of these days I will mutate.  And then I'll need to work on scales and play those killer lead licks like Detman101.  I worked on them a bunch with bass and you'd think that would have helped.  You've have thought so...
