Hi Hyrdro ... welcome to Chordie

I'll try to make this as simple as possible so you can understand it ... this is what the lines represent (which are the strings) from the high "e" string to the low "E" string

------------------------                  e)----------------------
------------------------                  B)----------------------
------------------------                  G)---------------------
------------------------         =       D)---------------------
------------------------                  A)----------------------
------------------------                  E)----------------------

Numbers on the lines (strings) represent what Fret you're playing:

-------2---------------                  e)---------2-----------       (2nd Fret)
-------3---------------                  B)---------3-----------       (3rd Fret)
-------2---------------                  G)---------2-----------       (2nd Fret)
------------------------         =      D)----------------------
------------------------                  A)----------------------
------------------------                  E)----------------------

--------------
--------------
--------------
-----2-------
-----2--------
-----0--------      "0" is an open string being played

--------------
--------------
--------------
-----2--------
-----2--------
-----X--------       "X" is a muted string

Numbers together like above mean the strings are played all at once ... when they are staggered like below, they are played individually:

---2---------2
------4--4----
---------------
---------------
---------------
---------------

Hope this helps somewhat

Hi Rachael

If you like country, there are tons of easy songs to learn ... specifically I love George Strait songs (Stars on the Water) ... they're usually two/three chords ... Bob Segar (You'll Accompany Me) has a few as well

Can I buy a vowel???

Freaks N Geeks

Thanks Jerome ... now I just have to see it visually and I'm good to go!

Have to agree bone ... "It's a long way to the top " is an awesome song ... one of my favs from ACDC ... how they ever came up with the idea of the bagpipes is beyond but it makes the song that much better

Quick question guys ... one thing I see alot is when a song is played, they'll say this song is played in the key of "A, B, C, D, etc" ... what does that mean?  How does it apply to where your playing the chords, notes, etc?

Is it safe to assume that if they're playing in the key of "A" that they're playing the scales or notes associated with the key of "A" on all of the strings?

Sweet tune by Maiden Clansman ... I'm actually in the process of learning that one ... about 3/4 done ... of course I haven't been able to do the solo's ... just the main riffs but it sounds sweet ... the live version is definitely better!

I'm looking at buying a Nylon Acoustic Guitar ... I was wondering if any of you guys know of a good brand to purchase ... I'm not looking at anything over $200 ... but something that is decent enough to give my fingers a rest not to mention a different sound ... I've heard Yamaha's are very good

Hey Joe

Actually I picked up the Fender Super Champ XD last weekend ... it's tube based and I love it ... the sounds are extremely clean ... something my Line6 didnt do to well ... I just bought a Boss Metal Core stomp box to go with it if I want to do some harder tones ...

I actually play alot of different styles of music from 60's/70's folk songs to Country to Metal ... I currently have 5 guitars but you can the specifics from my signature block

Doc

I've used Elixir's on my acoustics for a while now ... a friend of mine introduced me to them and I haven't gone back since ... I use the Poly's but decided to try the Bronze Nano's once and didn't like the sound on them at all ... the Poly's gave me a much brighter tone

Also, I pay around $15 a pack for my strings ... I gather they're more due to your location?

John ... right off the bat when I head Holiday in Cambodia I thought of Guitar Hero smile

But I agree, knowing the scales as well as the key your playing the song in helps in adding additional instruments to make the song really come alive

I was thinking the same thing with the Metallica set up as well ... I've never listened to it yet but have seen the arrangements as well

But agreed on Wish You Were Here ... Pink Floyd in GENERAL

What is everyones favourite song with alot of instrumentation?  One thing I've learned is my favourite songs are ones that have alot of diverse instrument playing or just the sheer beauty of it accompanying the lyrics in a song.

For instance:  I LOVE how "Silent Lucidity " from Queensryche sounds ... the violins accompanying the the 12-string acoustic guitar is phenomenal

Another song that appeals to me is Bittersweet Symphony from Verve Pipe ... again, the introduction of violins into a modern pop song is amazing

Often I wonder how writers come up with the additions of instruments to their songs ... mostly I would think the standard set-ups would apply ... but how do they come up with adding all the extras?

Ahhh Lemi in the early 80's ... did he have the mole yet?  lol

Have any of you guys played some of your favourite songs but put your own spin on it ?  Last night I was playing "Runnin' Down a Dream" by Tom Petty ... since I had my Les Paul plugged in I said let me see if I can play this via powerchord formation ... and it actually fit, albeit a more harder version ... it actually sounded really good (so my friend told me)

Has anyone else done this, not specifically powerchords, to a song they like?

Alot of times strumming takes practice and a good ear ... it will come in time ... last night, for example, a friend asked me to play Neon Moon by Brooks & Dunn ... I've never played it before and noticed the chords were simple ... the strumming was awkward at first but after about 5-10 minutes I was able to figure it out ...

Just try different songs with different strum patterns ... soon it will click with you smile

I learned my patterns from www.justinguitar.com

Wow ... pretty impressive list guys ...

Thanks for the insight Zurf ... it'll come in handy!
