to mhebert, will trade stanley cup for RUSH. I think it's a fair offer! But if not I'd be willing to consider throwing in a octopus to sweeten the deal. Cool?

You could get together with Old Doll and have an Octopus' Garden!
Just for Badeyes' weekend of course.

Sorry but we keep Rush.....national treasure.

Patrick I'm 38 and feeling a little old. I guess we should start a string titled '' Anyone who grew up listening to Led Zepplin, Harmonium, Styx, Boston, Beau Domage, Dylan.....''

Well Brad it seems that half of our posts would have been here. lol

As for requests....how about a Stanly Cup in Canada.

Your teacher is full of it!!! There is nothing advanced about it. Find an F on a chord chart and learn to make it. It is a little different from an open chord because you use your whole hand. then you can move it up and down the neck to make any major chord. do the same with a Bm. Now you can make any minor chord. After that it's a matter of moving a finger here and there and you can make any chord your little heart desires. Any go f--k teacher who says that something is too advanced needs to be replaced. Nothing is too advanced to someone who want's to learn. Remember there are only 12 tones. Everything eles is a matter of manipulating them for the desired sound. The fact that you want to know is a good sign that you will not have much trouble learnning!

Couldn't have said it better myself!

Bad Bad Leroy Brown
Yesterday.... actually anything by the Beatles
House of the Rising Sun
Leaving on a Jet Plane
STAIRWAY TO HEAVEN
Sweet Home Cicago
Dead or Alive
Comfortably Numb
American Pie

this list could go on forever.........

The more you play the more people will request. If they ask for Van Halen and you play folk just explain your style.

My problem is that I tend to let others sing out of shyness. I'm really not shy at all but when it comes to singing I clam up. When I do sing people tell me that my voice isn't so bad. This has been a problem for many years. Any suggestions?

Sounds like a blast, it is the 40th anniversary of Sgt. Peppers this week. What a great Album.
I'm sure you will enjoy it very much.
Have you heard ''The Fab Faux'' they are probably the best cover band for the beatles. Look them up on Youtube. Their cover of ''A Day In The Life'' is almost perfect.
Enjoy

But if I visit someone and all there is around is an electric I'll play it. I've owned many Electric guitars in my younger years, a Telecaster, a Strat, a few cheap Les Paul knockoffs. I really miss the Telecaster.....maybe one day I will treat myself to another one.
Actullay my son is a drummer and he is now getting into older rock and maybe I will need an electric to jam with him.

I think that we need to make a distinction between artists/musicians and others that are just entertainers. There are still great artists creating new music. Greenday comes to mind, as does Dave Matthews, The Verve.....the list goes on.
I do agree that there are many entertainers re-mixing old music and making quite a lot of money doing it. On the other hand the original artists are paid royalties. When Run DMC re-mixed Walk This Way by Aerosmith it revived their carreer and exposed them to a whole new generation. Sounds like a win/win situation to me.

A Horse With No Name- America
Take it Easy- The Eagles
Bad Bad Leroy Brown- Jim Croce

there are many simple songs, and just as many ways to play each one. The point is that you have to have fun and learn.
Grimreefer mentioned Elenore Rigby, a great classic, I agree that the root of the composition is simple yet I play it with fingerpicking. So I'm playing the song and the voices at the same time. Not for beginners. The point is that as long as you are learning and enjoying yourself the level that you play the song at is not important. If you challenge yourself on a regular basis you are working just as hard as anybody else.

Saba,
I think age has a big part to play in this. Younger people tend to want to start a band yet they don't have the funds/jamming sapce/equipment.
If you are in this catagory try finding other bands that could help out.
When I was in my teens..... long time ago..... My drummers big brother rented a house to jam in. He lived there with the bass player. The whole house was wall to wall equipment there was nobody that would complain about the noise.
Well seeing as we were about 15 at the time they would let us use their equipment. We had our own guitars and a few cheap amps but that was it. This house was great. Lots going on......well I won't elaborate on that but lets just say you should maybe look around for mentors that could help you out.
Look in the papers as bands often place adds when they are looking for members.
Find a music school and meet others.
Start spending lots of time in a local guitar store, you will start to see the same faces over and over and you could start new friendships

Just some suggestions, Good luck,

Bonne Fete Patrick,
Hope you had a good time. Next year you should hire Badeye for entertainment. He is worth the expense, he will play till the wee hours or sunrise, depending how long the beer lasts. He also brings along a busload of eastcoasters that could start a party in a convent!
All the best.

Here is a copy of what I wrote in reply to someone asking about humidifiers. I believe that it also applies here.

O.K. so here's the deal as an "old timer" sees it. I play a Norman B20 with a spruce top and cherry sides and back. I have owned this guitar for 15 years.I try to practice about an hour a day,so it does get plenty of playing. I keep it in a solid case with a little silica bag to absorbe moisture. I clean my strings and fingerboard with "Fast Fret", I pass a dry rag on it to dust it off every so often. And that's it! My guitar keeps sounding better as the years pass. It is ageing just as I like.
My concern is this. I am fairly new to this site.... I really love this site and the interaction with other musicians.... but I can't help feeling that many people are spending so much time fretting ( pun intended ) over all the latest equipment that manufactuers are telling us that we need. Unless you live in a very dry or extreemly humid enviroment I do not see the need for such a gadget. Also if you do live in such an enviroment wouldn't your home already have either a humidifier or dehumidifier. Doesn't your guitar share the same enviroment? I live in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Our tempuratures vary from +30 and very humid in the summers to -30 and very dry in the winters.I have never felt a need to worry about my guitar.
So are all these gadgets nessesary or are we products of our commercial enviroment?

Find a good Luther and follow his/her advice. If you lower the bridge too much you will produce that buzzing. Some guitars are just not worth the cost of working on them. Maybe you will find that buying a new one is where it's at.
Good luck
