pity the french could not keep their word for the scots and kept their promise of support for the jacobite cause in 1746. they sent a few but no where near the amount they were meant to.
and the time before that they turned back, then when they got a bit more friendlier with the english they forgot all about us.
The americans should have came and helped us since they kicked the butts of the british army.

but apart from that, good joke. Might be an oldie but i have not heard it.

the beatles do not have control over their music.
it was the record company that did not want the lyrics available for all.
As they have the rights to the lyrics they can make money from them. If they are shown for free on the internet then they dont make money.

ken

what is this about Lieven?
are you wanting more input from members that write songs in the songwriting section that are not american or are you wanting more bands that are not american? yer not very clear to what you want to know.
but either way, ye do get hell of a lot of songs from outside the U.S. the world is not in the U.S. there are plenty of things outside it and is shown in chordie too.
I tihnk you have a weird facination on america and I think you should go live there and get all your questions answered.

and I dont think many on here will be into music that do not speak english as this is an english speaking site. Thats not to say the music is bad elsewhere but folk just will not be into it as much as they are with music they can understand.

Per is based in Belgium.
I think he had to block the beatles songs because it was a british company that told him to so it mentions something about british.

I think if it were an american company the notice would say about blocking the lyrics in america instead of the UK.

I dont know much about the programming for blocking certain areas for certain people but I know that Per is working on this. Means I will be blocked but in the U.S. they wont be. I might have to get the U.S. to save it to their songbook, save it to thewir computer as a file then Email me it.

As for " where is this going"   lots of threads end up with disagreements.
You asked a question it got answered. that should be the end of the thread. Moderators can close it if asked.

Upyerkilt, I had never heard of Stiff Little Fingers until I started reading this forum. I live in a smallish mid western city (St. Louis) and there isn't really any "scene" to speak of. So finding a new good band is like winning the lottery. The punk bands I do like are collected from about 25 years of scrounging for anything remotely punk related. The internet has really changed the way bands are found for me these days. I will definitely be checking Stiff Little Fingers out, especially after coming so highly regarded from so many members of the forum.

I luv them Craig.
If you like live music then they have an album called "HANX" or their album " ALL THE BEST" which is a compilation.
I love all their stuff though. 1st album they done was inflamable material. their latest "GUITAR AND DRUM"

I am pretty sure there is stuff on youtube of them

I am free, I am so free you could call me a music slut. lol
I play in pubs and ask for no money. I played on the street and a beer garden at the balloch folk festival for free. I even cheered a good folk band in the pub for free lol
I think one of them told me they would give me a tenner for cheering but I dont it for free lol

no exercise ideas here.
I was going to reply something witty and funny but couldnt think of anything that didnt sound too cheeky so instead I will reply wit hthis.

I would have thought even getting on in years you should be able to play OK. I know a few guys in their late 70's and early 80's that still play away without their fingers or hands getting sore.
Maybe this is a cause from your broken bones from years ago.
If I were you I would go to the docs and ask him.

But then other folkies here might have the same problem or maybe did have and they probably have a few answers.

C'mon folk, I want to read some answers here for when I get old.

Thanks for your comments

lol lol lol

you started the opininated thread lol

But this is not a dig at you Steve. I think it was a good thread to start with just sort of went a bit to one side and became a bit personal.
You were talking about getting things free in general then it turned out all to be about chordie and freebies and other sites and spam and urinated posts, so much urinated posts that i I have not read them all, it got a bit boring after a few and some were just too long for me to try keep consentration to remember what was said to who and when and why to where to I know I am blabbing now lol

I still like freebies and I still like giving advice, lessons, and anything esle free.
I see myself as a bit of a socialist but really I want to be a communist and live in a real communist country but sadly none exist so folk will still try to gain power from the means of more money.
Only reason anyone wants money other than to live off because all governments have forced everyone in the world apart from those lucky few in isolated islands or jungles is because they want power or think they need something they dont.

So now I am thinking freebies are not so good. Next time someone wants to know how to do a Bm the easy way I will tell them after they have traded me something like a couple of carrots or a blanket lol ahh the good old days I have never seen.

freebies are always good, everyone likes something that is free, even if it is useless!
this in my experience is more towards the older generation. Now please do not think I am meaning every O.A.P as I know a lot that will take nothing for nothing.

When I worked in A garden centre for 11 years we always thought of ways of getting more punters through the door as does every company trying to make money. makes sense!
The best way we handled this even though not always successful was to advertise in the local paper ( and hopefully get the ad cheap as we pleaded we were a charity run business for disabeld ex-servicemen) We advertised a free bottle of baby bio plant food which would cost us about 20p per bottle since we bought so much in or got it on offer from the supplier.
Our advert would say spend over £10 and get a FREE bottle of plant food. At 9am we would have a queue of old biddies standing with their coupons that they needed thinking we would run out of the stuff.
And when they had enough items to get over the £10 and standing at the till they were telling the staff how they were not to forget the plant food.
This did not happen once or twice, this happened a lot with different offers all free or Buy one get one free (aka BOGOF). Sometimes if we never had a lot of free items the advert would say " while stocks last" if someone came and they could not get it even if a few weeks later they would let us know how unhappy they were, how they feel they have been cheated to visit and spend money to get something free.
My question to that to them was if you didnt need it, why buy it? why buy something just to get something free?. Sometimes they would reply " I might use it but I came here for it, I could have went elsewhere" So no matter they were going to buy it anyway.

I am so glad I got away from the general public, what a pain in the rear end they are. I hope I dont meet any of the general public again lol lol
seriously though freebies are good.
And as for mentioning yet again about paying for things here or getting it for free. I like chordie the way it is and the only way Choride would ask for money I tihnk is if it really had to for its survival. But as for paying for advice that most give out in chordie then that is just pure urine man. that advice will always be free in here.

Stopry over lol

I would recommend you randomly looking through some public songbooks thats what I do for new ideas. I might look through 5 or 6 books and get one or two new songs.

when i was younger I thought upon those that cried at films and songs were really needing medical help in a big way. I thought only a song, only acting etc.
Now I am older I have different views on it.

I have had a tear or two bucket full when trying to sing one of my own sad songs....I just dont do it anymore. No point in trying if ye cant finish it the nye try to think of a cheery song to lift you up a bit, but the damage is done and ye feel the dried up tears tightening up your laughter lines around yer eyes. and ye have to ram a few roll up cigarette filters up yer nose to dam the mucus from flowing down while ye sing yer happy song to make you forget about yer sad song. lol

The scottish trad. song I do a lot " hush hush" makes my mum cry or " the masacre of glen coe" so if she is anywhere near I just wont do them.

I do like a right good emotional sad song wit ha lot of feeling, one that makes you sit down and absorb every word with every meaning that goes with it. Or you twist the lyrics a bit to make you think of different things in your own life, past or present.
Ones that usually get me are jacobite songs or others like "the soldier" "streets of london"

but I got to agree with most here about Johnny Cash, his lyrics are just so emotional a lot of the time and whether ye cry or not they really make you sit and get emotional.

good subject

Hi Tim
that would be quite a good idea I tihnk but best asking A few of the moderators for the chat section or Roger for another section.
I resigned from being a moderator from the site so I could be as cheeky as I felt like being to folk without damaging chordie's good name lol I just let the others do that now lol
Seriously thought, I had personal reasons why I resigned but I still come in and I still help with questions when i can be bothered.
Though it would be watched very carefully for spam. Directing folk to a site where it will benefit someones bank acount would not be tolerated.
If it was "normal" "regular" chordie users that thought a site was good then I dont think there should be a problem with it.
Folk see spamming as different things, some mods might think it is OK others wont. So they will have to argue among themselves to come to a conclusion before having a sticky on it.

So what do the mods think?
