I'll have to download Skype, but if that's what y'all are going to do, okay.

Thanks!

Speaking of Bob - I read a month or so ago, that, in conjunction with AARP about 50 k members will be receiving a free copy of his latest album along with their magazine. I'm not sure if that time has passed; if so, I didn't get one.

Are any of you Merkins members of AARP? Maybe you got one?

Thanks and have a great Sunday, my friends. smile

Thanks, everyone. Some cool answers there. (I especially liked the one which includes "Justin BEIBER").

In 2007, I decided to take singing lessons. The lady who taught me (should I have chosen a guy, or does it matter?) got me going really well with the piano exercises and the "do re mi" as well as the Three Stooges' "Alphabet/Consonant Song ": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bgmdnxtz3Bo  but then my hours at work changed and I had to stop taking the course.

I do remember when we sang together she kept telling me I was singing "harmony" with her. I don't know if she was just being kind or what.

So now what I do is... I hum along to the key the song's supposed to be in until I get a "match" with the guitar and then the "train begins to roll". More often than not, however, it "derails" somewhere along the "track" and I cuss and walk away. smile

There's a song somewhere on YouTube that I did in some guy's studio and I think he "doctored" it as best he could, but it still sounds like doo-doo. I'll let y'all look it up yourselves. I'm too ashamed to post it myself. (see #2 in Amy's post above.

For Amy: When I used to go to church, I only used to "mouth" the words, so you would have been safe with me. smile

Thanks everyone! Great answers!

1. Anybody can sing

2. If not, then they can use one of those "match your key" machines and no one would know the difference.

Thanks

Will do, Brother dino and thanks! smile

Presently we're titrating dosages, being careful to monitor the blood pressure. We had one close call during the night when she started swooning (and it wasn't because I'm so good looking, hahaha) and I got there just in time to ease her down to the carpet.

That kind of thing happens when after sitting for a very long time, you stand up too fast; but this was caused by the meds being too strong. Anyway, all is well.

===============

Now about that "Tonsil Hockey": I'm going to  ass-u-me that's French Kissing or an open-mouth type thing? At about 14 years of age, all I knew was what we talked about in the Boy's Bathroom, but I thought I had the technique down.

Fast-Forward to age 15. Location: our broken-down little theater; Balls: Blue.

What I learned that night was that my technique needed some work. Apparently what I should have done was make sure both mouths were open a little after the initial "liplock' as you call it: she opens her mouth, you open yours and then the tongues touch each other, both lips slide around on each other, the tongues slip in and out, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc . ----------------- That's what one is supposed to do. I got the lip lock and then I sucked in real hard. Estimated negative pressure was about 80 mm Hg. Pain from slap which followed, on a scale of 1-10: about 8. Laughter volume measured in decibels: 6.0dB.

I'm sorry for the length (of this post).

Gotta go see Dondra. wink

Good night and have a good and stress-free work week, dear friends! smile

Hey, djsweaty (Brian). smile

Used to do that way back in the early 80's when I worked for a small market station  as combination morning-man/news director.

A few of us did dj woirk to supplement our meager existence, and we had a wooden stand which used the frame from an old fold up school table with two square holes in which sar 2 radio shack turbtables. For speakers we used very tall speakers powered by a 100 watt RS amp. Hybrid/primitve, but it got us what we wanted. We didn't scratch, because we might've had to  use those (radio shack) cartridges/needles the next day (we were sunup/sundown) playing on the air music. That sound about right for how you did it? Man! We used to bastardize everything. smile

Anyway, WELCOME to one of the best sites on the net for what is done here for the musician . These folks are a very friendly bunch who are always ready to help with a smile. I just love'em. Just think of me as a sort of Wal-Mart greeter and  smiler. You couldn't have come to a nicer place! smile

(psssst! How'd I do, Boss?) smile smile smile

Hi Phill ! smile

When I returned to post here, I think I mentioned there may be times when y'all would have to be patient with me should I not "get" or don't understand something, so this is one of those times. I'm not being flippant nor deliberately obstinate. Also I am not being critical of your content. Being that we're buds, no way would I hurt your feelings deliberately.

So that's the "disclaimer". smile

Okay, here's my problem:  Why is your audience member in trouble? He bought flowers, so she should be happy and all should be well, in my opinion?

That was the question! smile

And finally, here's my excuse for not understanding: Sleep Deprivation. I've been sleeping with one ear and one eye "open", in case Dondra were to fall on her way to her room of baths.

So can ya help a brother out?:)

Thanks, Phill and I hope you and yours are having a great weekend.

Your fellow Musical friend

"Preggers"....:)

Bill

......... at break times or anytime. Do y'all do this? Here are 2 examples:

1. "Folks, we've had some complaints about the next song. We usually play it fast but this time we've decided to play it half-fast."

2. "The first portion of our show was brought to you by Hardy's Shoes. Remember, women go for guys with Hardies on."

So... got any to share?

Thanks

Are you trying to access songbooks or the forum? What I generally do if I see the root down is I will type in "http://www.chordie.com/forum/index.php" and see if the forum is down. If it is, I e-mail Per.

You may also try to access the page from another browser or a mobile device to see if it's specific to your device and/or your software.

Maybe the wife has put in a filter so you can't waste too much time with us. smile

Hi, BGD smile

I was trying to access the forum. Keeping me on Chordie assures Dondra  that I'm not stirring up any mischief, so no filter. wink

And I never consider my time here wasted. 9 times out of 10 I learn something new here when I log on! smile I appreciate the instructions regarding the downed root as well.

Thanks!

Bill

PS: jeep, Doug and dino, thanks to you guys too. smile

....... but NO CHORDIE at suppertime! (a take off on the old tune "Sugar In The Morning")

What happens is I can access our site now and early evening, but there will come a time say after 6 pm (it is 10 am here now), when I won't be able to get on because Chrome says the page cannot be found. I posted this problem on Facebook, but don't know if anyone has seen it yet.

I use Chrome because FF doesn't like my gaming and I keep getting messages from THEM saying "A script on this page may be busy....". which is very aggravating, so I stay with Chrome.

Any ideas?

And here's the song I referenced above. I bet Amy and some of our other ladies could do this some real justice! Enjoy!

Y'all are some sure enough awesome people!  Thanks so much for your thoughts and prayers these past few days. We got discharged this morning and since today is Valentine's Day I set up a little surprise for her in the bedroom and she loved it. Just a rose and her favorite breakfast of French Toast with strawberries and whipped cream. smile

Amy and everyone, we did get a lot of her meds changed and the docs think this may be thyroid related, so I'll be monitoring her BP and look out for any side effects as she gets used to all this new stuff.

You folks are the kind that makes me wish we all lived closer together.

Thanks so much

From Bill and Dondra!

Thanks, everyone. After some intravenous fluids, her B/P came down to 170/85. Still too high, but managable. She sent me home and they plan on keeping her for an aggressive cardiac workup. We only live about 5 minutes away from the hospital. Thank you all for the get well wishes. I have passed them along and she thanks you very much. She's the subject of my latest blog entry which will show what a wonderful lady my wife is.

Thanks again!

Just letting you know I'll be MIA for a while. My wife Dondra's blood pressure has suddenly climbed way out of control and I'll be at the hospital with her. I think we can communicate with her tablet, but as I have never used such a device I'm not sure when. I'll be coming home from time to time and can post her progress. I know I can count on your thoughts and prayers and thank you very much for them.

Hey dino!

Thanks, my friend!  You always seem to be around to care when someone (me, for instance) has a problem!

God's blessings on you, my friend!

PS: I also have a hot wax bath when the pain gets too bad. I dip my hand in, leave it long enough to form a "glove" and pretend I am Michael Rennie in the film The Day The Earth Stood Still. "Klaatu Barada Nikto, Y'all! smile

Good night and peace. Please.

B chords are evil.  Once you accept that as fact, then you can begin to deal with not making them as close of friends as say, a C chord.

Bill, There's something you should know about brother Zurf....... he's always bashing on the B chord (note his Avatar).  Some of us can still remember when it was the F, and we are holding our breath waiting for the day he discovers dominant 7th b5 or #9 chords.  Russell granted him amnesty from the B but I'm not sure how to inoculate for those.

All in Fun!

Doug

I'm  no fan of E flat 5 either, but it's harder type than B.

Zurf, I'm with you, brother.

I also saw Russell stretch that pinky out and down on the instrumental he played for me! Jealous of him, too! smile

I know this is about a piano, but have any of you ever heard of "stretching a tenth?" (a chord that hits 10 white keys with one hand). I believe it is needed for playing the Mephisto Waltz.

I envy those of you who don't have arthritis in your hands!

I keep waiting on you "long thumb" guys to paint eyes and a mouth on them and play with them like that just to kid me! smile

Right now, badeye, I'm just thrilled that I can go to B7! I've been ignoring a lot of tunes on Chordie because I dreaded having to play that first version with all the fingers crowded together.

Now, when one of guitar-playing friends (of which there is only one - he's  left handed and doesn't reverse his strings, so he's impossible to follow) hollers "B7!!", I'm there Dude! Thanks to Joe and Nela! smile

Sorry, Nela for not replying sooner, but I had to figure out who "SBB" is. smile I finally concluded it was me. Coincidentally, that is the exact chord formation I picked, thanks! smile

Now I just have to try to avoid the rest of the B's. sad

I once tried to write a country song called "The Last Great American Love Song" (by the Last Great American Fool), and the more I tried to make it make sense, the more it escaped me.

Then I realized something: "Nobody wants to hear the last love song, Bill, you idjit!"

Balled it up and threw it away.

You can have the title as my gift, if you think you can do something with it. smile
