The well-deserved tributes have left me without the vocabulary to do your work justice, TIG ... it's as warm as a song can get.

Wow, what an incredible voice this young lady has! I listened her version of Tracy Chapman's "Fast Car", and it's as good Tracy's, no debate.

Nice find, nice post!

Awwwww, MKM ... you're gonna love it!

Just think of the all extra decibels, the complaining neighbors, the migraine headaches, and MKD dressing like a teen and getting a Mohawk haircut. You'll be falling in love all over again ... right? Get him a new T-shirt for Father's Day to further fuel the delusion:

Mr. William's style of music isn't my first choice, but there's no denying the incredible respect he earned within the C&W community, and the sizable impact he had on 20th Century performance arts in general.

I believe for many years, poor Syd may have been "locked away" inside himself, and maybe we didn't know as much about Schizophrenia as we do today. I think he could have been helped by meds such as  Invega or any other of the ones which may have been found of late, but I don't know, TF.

May he continue to rest peacefully and rid of his devils.

Your Friend,

Bill

I think you're 100% correct on all points, Bill.

There are so many more treatment options today. I saw on online interview somewhere with David Gilmour, where he spoke candidly about the challenges of working side-by-side with Syd. His chief point was exactly what you said, i.e., no one knew much about the condition back then (late-60's / early-70's).

So glad you got it sorted out, Shaun ... stuff like that can be a concern. Any wiring projects I've done that haven't had the expected results, always have me sniffing the air for smoke. lol

Holy free-Holies, Bill ... this is brilliant!

Very imaginative, well constructed, vivid portrayals, and so much more. Having the voiced-over quote from Asimov is a stroke of genius. His book "I, Robot" was a masterpiece, and the film with Will Smith & James Cromwell was also good, even though it differed significantly from Asimov's book.

Nice work indeed!

Whoever he is, he shows admirable humility in his introductory remarks to his video, crediting the arrangement and not his playing.

The opening guitar sequence showcases the beautiful, creamy tones of the Fender Custom "Fat 50's" pickups. In Gilmour's hands, they certainly sculpt lush soundscapes. In memory of PF's founding guitarist (Syd Barrett) who lived and suffered with severe Schizophrenia, and finally died 10 years ago at the young age of 60.

Way to go, Zurf!

It's no small feat to tackle such a sizeable "re-learn" of your guitar playing knowledge & skills. My hat is most definitely off to you!

The "conquer / colonize / capture / commandeer" mentality seems to be as old as the human race. And the greediest sociopaths always find a way to inspire others to do their dirty work. It's a tough reality, and you've captured it well, Easybeat.

To complete the Weekly Feature calendar, this thread will showcase fingerstyle / classical guitarists, and the wealth of beautiful music they bring to the world.

lol So we just finished a Leap Year, and now will have to wait until 2020 to hear your very first post in "Misfit Maestros". I hope neither of us have kicked the bucket by then! lol

That's great work, Kim ... you're having fun and investing in practice, and it's showing and shining!

That's not entirely uncommon, Shaun.

It may be the way the pickups are wired into the overall current flow (Series VS Parallel wiring) or it just may be that the combined outputs of both pickups together is dropping your signal strength.

A second cause might be related to your volume pots. Generally speaking, single-coil pups are good with 250k pots, while humbuckers require 500k pots. If you didn't switch pots when you did your pickups, and they have higher output levels, you might have a resistance issue that's affecting your volume.

I won't pretend to understand all of this, but it sounds like a trip to a guitar tech might solve your problem. If you didn't have this issue with the original pickups, my "best guess" is that the wiring needs to be switched around. Here's a link to some very thorough wiring options for guitar pickups, complete with schematics:

Good luck finding a resolution!

Hey Kevin ...

I was just scanning through the Guitar Fetish website, because there must be something I can't live without. I happened upon this $45 pedal tuner, which looks to fit the spec and price range you requested:

Since Tuesday has not yet been claimed for a weekly feature, I hope no one minds if I start one next week. It'll be primarily fingerstyle / classical guitarists. If anyone else has something they were thinking of doing, please say so and I'll make way. Otherwise, we'll soon start "Tuesday's Flying Fingers".

Here's a couple of cool vids of Don Ross & Jimmy Wahlsteen, performing a couple of their own compositions on a street in Halifax. This is the capital city of Nova Scotia, and about an hour's drive from where I live. Can't figure out what street they're on ... not enough background clues.

I just looked at all the various ports on the back of my TV ... and concluded that idiots designed it.

I can wire a house, but have never understood why techno stuff is purposely designed to be so complex. Must have been designed by the same people who created 50-some different screwdriver tips (slot, Phillips, Robertson, Allen, Torx, etc. in all sizes), or the dozen or more ways to attach a tub spout to a piece of 1/2" copper pipe coming out of the wall. Whenever I see the word "universal" on something that's supposed to be a replacement part, I cringe in fear.

'Nuff said ... rant concluded.

Great work, Phill ...

I'll cast my vote for "Old Friends" as my favorite of the two. Are you using a DigiTech Trio for the drums & bass, or did you play all the instruments and mix them together? Either way, you sound great!
