There's this silly song called "crack your head open" that I first heard earlier today. Great fun lyrics, but it has a complex picking / strum pattern that I just can't seem to get down. The original artist is truly a guitar virtuoso!

Prehistoric flute in Germany is oldest known
By PATRICK McGROARTY, Associated Press Writer Patrick Mcgroarty, Associated Press Writer Wed Jun 24, 3:35 pm ET
BERLIN – A bird-bone flute unearthed in a German cave was carved some 35,000 years ago and is the oldest handcrafted musical instrument yet discovered, archaeologists say, offering the latest evidence that early modern humans in Europe had established a complex and creative culture.
A team led by University of Tuebingen archaeologist Nicholas Conard assembled the flute from 12 pieces of griffon vulture bone scattered in a small plot of the Hohle Fels cave in southern Germany.
Together, the pieces comprise a 8.6-inch (22-centimeter) instrument with five holes and a notched end. Conard said the flute was 35,000 years old.
"It's unambiguously the oldest instrument in the world," Conard told The Associated Press this week. His findings were published online Wednesday by the journal Nature.
Other archaeologists agreed with Conard's assessment.

Re: North Dakota Cowboy (23 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
Very cool story Wayne. I did a little search and it seems the Spanish were the original cowboys. From wiki:
The English word cowboy has an origin from several earlier terms that referred to both age and to cattle or cattle-tending work.
The word "cowboy" appeared in the English language by 1725.[3] It appears to be a direct English translation of vaquero, a Spanish word for an individual who managed cattle while mounted on horseback. It was derived from vaca, meaning "cow."[4] This Spanish word has a long history, developed from the Latin word vacca. Another English word for a cowboy, buckaroo, is an Anglicization of vaquero.[5] At least one linguist has speculated that the word "buckaroo" derives from the Arabic word bakara or bakhara, also meaning "heifer" or "young cow", and may have entered Spanish during the centuries of Islamic rule.[6]
The Spanish originated what we now consider the cowboy tradition, beginning with the hacienda system of medieval Spain. This style of cattle ranching spread throughout much of the Iberian peninsula and later, was imported to the Americas. Both regions possessed a dry climate with sparse grass, and thus large herds of cattle required vast amounts of land in order to obtain sufficient forage. The need to cover distances greater than a person on foot could manage gave rise to the development of the horseback-mounted vaquero.
Congrats to Great Grampa Georgie Baye!

Support the Artist's - pay for your music.
It's not about the songs she downloaded, it's the songs she uploaded and were shared illegally to thousands of other illegal downloaders.
Like mister said, she was originall offered a settlement for less than $5,000 USD and declined. She went to court and was fined $220,000 - She appealed that and now has $1.2M.
She has no money, the RIAA will likely never see a dime. I just hope she has to pay court costs. Tax Payers should not be responsible for this mess.

Here's a family portrait. Left to right:
Composite Acoustics 7i (now called GXi I think) - my everyday go to guitar
Fender Uke - a fun toy
Alvarez 12 string - a joy to play - Pix remembers this one
Gretsch Americana - my sons guitar really, but a solid wood fun time
Takamine EF508C - plays and sounds great, but she is somewhat neglected.

Hi Bushman and welcome to chordie!
I had to reply because I posted a very similar topic a long while back using the same example (Hotel California). Maybe the old topic will give you some ideas:
http://www.chordie.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=7296
Also, check out the sticky topic in chat where Pix has posted video strumming patterns on many beginner type songs:
http://www.chordie.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=9409
Vary your strumming, learn a few lead licks, hum or sing along. Most importantly, hang in there and continue you practice, I assure you it gets better.

Pix - Really dug that Sublime tune - I gotta switch the radio off classic rock and am talk radio sometimes and try some newer stuff. Very Cool. And man, I love all of your wife's videos (gotta take a cold shower now). Check bradintampa's version - that's how I learned it. All his stuff is good.

We'll be there 7/11 through 7/18 - just a ferry ride for you. Come visit!
Wayne - Wow - loved the tunes, didn't expect that from you LOL. I'm afraid that by the time came that it would be appropriate, I'll have way to much in me to keep up with vocals. LOL - great stuff though.
Tuba - I lived in Florida for 10+ years, been to Key West many times - I feel for every bar band when they are requested to play cheesburger or margaritiville. I know Toney feels the same way (and Jimmy too more than likely). That said, my younger cousins from upstate NY will probably be just like your typical tourist and those tunes will likely go over well. Easy enough, I'll print them, then burn 'em on the last day.
