Thanks to you all - Mini M Box & Pro Tools seems to do a much better job than M Audio, Sessions that I was using.

Jackson Browne in a little dinky highschool size arena back in the early 80s in Heidelberg, West Germany. I was never sure why he played there because he was pretty big at the time. I think he had some history there. It was a very tremendous show. The Loadout performed live was something that night.

I am proud to say that I drink coffee, I have for a long time and I make the best coffee of anyone that I know. I can not for the life of me understand how so many people can learn so many great and wondrous things but still not learn how to make a good cup of coffee. So my song is dedicated to the many unfortunate souls who time and time again screw up a pot of coffee. I just wish it would stop happening at my place of employment. Please for the love of God listen to these words and take them to heart!!! I left out the fancy stuff like a pinch of salt to take out the acid if the coffee is like one of the major brands (good to the last drop comes to mind) but email me and I’ll give you those tips as well. Hope you like the song. And by the way, for those of you who disagree with me on how to make coffee, you’re wrong and need to get help.

The Coffee Song By Jeff Gilpin

July 2nd, 2007

Start slowly in the intro and speed up to about 130 bpm by the time you start the first verse(songs a bit caffeinated).

Intro

[A] [D] [E] [G]

Verse 1

Some [A]people drink their O J

Some have a cup of tea

Some drink cocoa or their Ovaltine

These [A7]drinks are not for me

In the [D]morning for me to wake up

Only one drink makes me [A]go

The sub[E]lime bean, that Caffine Dream!

I need my cup of [G]joe!

Chorus

I don't [D]need it watered down

That [A]don't taste good to me

I don't [E]need a cup of mud

I just want a [G]good cup of cof[A]fee

Verse 2

[A]Way back long ago

When I was just a boy

I'd get up for breakfast

All [A7]filled with morning joy

My [D]Dad had his cup

And it smelled pretty [A]good

Said [E]could I have a taste

He said taste it I [G]could

Chorus

I don't [D]need it watered down

That [A]don't taste good to me

I don't [E]need a cup of mud

I just want a [G]good cup of cof[A]fee

Verse 3

So [A]I had my first sip

And it tasted like crap

My Dad was cracking up

And spilled his [A7]coffee in his lap

So [D]after cleaning up

He toned a cup for me [A]down

He said [E]take a sip now

And that's when I went to [G]town

Chorus

I don't [D]need it watered down

That [A]don't taste good to me

I don't [E]need a cup of mud

I just want a [G]good cup of cof[A]fee

Verse 4

He [A]called it's chocolate milk

But I really didn't mind

It tasted great to me

And [A7]I was doing fine

That was [D]many years ago

But now I drink it [A]straight

Just so [E]long as it's brewed right

Bad coffee I'll not tole[G]rate

Chorus

I don't [D]need it watered down

That [A]dont taste good to me

I don't [E]need a cup of mud

I just want a [G]good cup of cof[A]fee

Verse 5

Now [A]here is what you do

To make the perfect pot

12 cold cups of water

If you [A7]are making a lot

[D]5/8 cup of good ground coffee

No more or no [A]less

Just [E]follow these rules

Or you're in for a coffee [G]mess

Chorus

I don't [D]need it watered down

That [A]don't taste good to me

I don't [E]need a cup of mud

I just want a [G]good cup of cof[A]fee[A7]

Ending Chorus

[D]That's how you make it

And [A]get it right every time

A [E]perfect cup is heaven

Anything [G]less just a [D]crime[E] [A7]

Hey Scar,

My best advice to you is to write songs about what you know and what you feel strongly about. My best songs have come from my heart. Remember that you are trying to bring an emotional response of some kind to people who listens to your songs.

I hope this helps and I wish you good luck,

Currently this is my favorite song. His lyrics hit home for me I think on the second time I heard it and his ability to connect to his listeners give me something to shoot for in the songs I write.

Donna - I know you will get that break. You are just too good so keep plugging away. Just so you know you are a big reason I keep doing what I'm doing with my songwriting, recording, and hopefully soon playing somewhere soon as well too so please keep inspiring me!

Thanks,

Jeff/jets

Thanks Badeye - Yep, I know lots of folks are down on their luck and I just want them to keep on keeping on for that break that's going to come. I guess I'm hopelessly optimistic. I think because things worked out for me when they were quite tough for a while there.

So this idea came to me from a coworker mentioning to me how baseball terminology is used quite a bit in business. I'm not a big baseball fan but she said that in a phone conversation I had I had said that we needed to make sure we cover all the bases. I didn't think about it at the time but later it occurred to me that there were times that I heard other references to baseball like your batting a thousand...stuff like that. Anyway, the term "0 for" got into my head and I came up with a song and tried to give it a positive sort of swing (baseball again?) to it. So here it is...kind of sad music which I usually like to write with and I used a chorus of "Ohs" for the first time in my songwriting just to keep it fresh. Give it a strum and a hum around the bases and let me know what you think.

My daughter gave me a Sirius Radio this past Christmas and I use it a lot on my commute to and from work. It sure does help to make the hour each way seem to fly by (sometimes). Lately, I've been listening to channel 30, the Coffee House, which is their Singer/Songwriter and Acoustic Rock channel. Many of the songs I hear will catch my attention and make me pause from where ever my mind is at to consider the lyrics or message or what the artists are trying to express. A few of these artists who have captured my 'ears' are Melissa Etheridge, Darden Smith, the Indio Girls, Damien Rice,...the list goes on and on and new ones are popping up all the time. I've started to collect some of these on my newest song book (Jets63) if you want to take a look. One song that stands out in my mind is Satisfied by Darden Smith which is unfortunately not yet on chordie. The song sums up something I've come to believe about how loving someone over time beats hands down all those imagined perfect partners. Darden mentions "Elvis back in '62" and "Marilyn in '63" as individuals whom people could think about as their ultimate fantasy. Anyway that's just one of many songs that make me think. Do any of you others Chordie members have songs that have Captured your Ears  as well?

Cheers

Thanks Slán and Roger - I was as I said going to write about something different and I kind of went down memory lane myself which got me to thinking about the evolution of music and how we ended up with what we listen to today, and what also will tomorrow hold. So I guess it's musical history song.

Hey Riannon - Thanks - I try to put some form of possitive spin on all my songs. I just have a long drive into and back from work so I get a lot of time to think. I'm usually stopped at the light trying to find something to write with so I don't let an idea get away. It's sometimes pretty funny looking at me scramble around.

My space is what is is so don't sweat it.

You know us chordie types we want to read it all and hear it all.

Still Rolling By Jeff Gilpin

June 20th, 2007

Intro

[G] [D] [C] [Em] [C] [D] [C]

Verse 1

We [Em]grew up in the age of [G]Rock and Roll

We [D]shuffled to the R and [A]B

[Em]Colors were blurred and [G]so were our minds

But we [D]weren't too blind to [A]see

Verse 2

We [Em]knew about Sweet [G]Emotion

And [D]R E S P E C [A]T

We [C]knew about Country Roads

And we [D]knew about Honesty

Pre-chorus 1

We [G]grew up with the radio

And the [D]radio grew up with us

[A]Listening to all sorts of music

[C]Before it learned how to cuss

Chorus 1

Still I [G]want [D]you to [C]want me

Like [Em]Super Tramp sang back in the [C]day

And I [G]try a [D]little [C]tenderness

As [Em]Otis use to [D]say

[G]Just like [D]Chaka [C]Kahn did

You [Em]tell me something [C]good

[D]We'll still keep it rolling

Through[C]out the neighbor[Em]hood

Verse 3

Now [Em]music we hear seems to [G]have evolved

It's [D]like a little bit of every[A]thing

[Em]Country's rocking the blues are [G]twanging on

And [D]we got all the rest in be[A]tween

Verse 4

But [Em]just when you think it's [G]completely changed

You [D]hear a song that takes you [A]back

As new [C]artists reinvent themselves

By [D]covering Beatles tracks

Pre-chorus 2

We [G]grew up with the radio

But we're [D]both not grown up yet

The [A]more it changes it stays the same

[C]What a novel concept

Chorus 2

We're [G]still [D]sad and [C]lonely

Our [Em]Blues Eyes Crying in the [C]Rain

Getting [G]high [D]on our [C]memories

And [Em]thinking about Riding that [D]Train

[G]Drifting on that [D]blue ba[C]you

And [Em]dreaming about yester[C]day

[D]We're still rolling

[C]Dreaming it's here to [Em]stay

Break

The [C]new stuff's not the [D]old stuff

But it's [G]definitely the [Em]fruit[D]

And it [C]grew from [D]what we all [Em]planted[D]

Now the [C]old stuff is the [D]new stuff

But [Em]with a different [G]twist[D]

So [C]shout and jump a[D]bout like you [Em]did

Verse 5

I [Em]wonder about where [G]music's heading

Let's [D]say in [A]50 years time

Will [Em]we still [G]recognize it

Will the [D]lyrics still [A]rhyme

Verse 6

Will [Em]we hear retro [G]music

From [D]what we hear to[A]day

Or [C]will our future descendants

Just [D]bury it away

Pre-chorus 3

[G]Will there still be radio

What [D]does the future hold

It could [A]turn to something else

And like [C]Rock-and-Roll break the mold

Ending Chorus 3

It could be [G]bye-bye [D]love and [C]happiness

Or [Em]something in the [C]way

We [G]greet the [D]morning [C]sunshine

That [Em]sends it on it's [D]way

We could get [G]caught up [D]in pos[C]sessions

Like a [Em]gypsy cara[C]van

But I [D]think we'll still be rolling

On down the [C]line until the [Em]end.

Thanks James - I wasn't even going to write anything last night but I just started thinking, then writing and it just came. I like it too but if I play it too fast it gets too busy so I have to concentrate on keeping it slow.

About, When You Go, I was going to add some more but I didn't know where you started and I didn't want to step on any of yours verses either so I waited. I'm looking forward to seeing it further along though.

Hey Donna - Thanks. Yeah, I like to do story songs from time to time. Glad you got it.

This is a kind of Father's Day song for my Dad who passed away back in 1999. It's his story generalized a bit so everyone will hopefully be able to put themselves in his shoes for at least part of his life. I hope you enjoy it.

Hey Donna - Yeah, this is hot. Just a great song that I can relate to, except for that putting on make up part. Simple, sweet and tells a great story.

Well done.

Jets/jeff

I just finished a instructional session on using my Mini M-Box, a product put out by Pro-Tools, with my guitar instructor. Let me tell you this makes a HUGE difference for the better from what I was using before. It's a little more expensive like the mid 200$ range as opposed to the 50 $ range from what I was using (M-Audio session) but I think this is worth it. I recorded a little of my song "Sleep Time Song" just the 1st 2 verses and the Chorus and let me tell you I just plugged it out so it was way messed up. But the sound was much clearer, less distortion, much cleaner and I was very pleased. I think I'm going to rerecord my other songs just so they sound as good too. Anyway, I recommend it and as soon as I record some of my songs I'll do a compare of both on my myspace so every one can hear for themselves too.

Cheers,

Jeff/jets
