lol,
Geraldine,
as long as you are talking about crack as in craic, then I am sure the moderator will not delete it.
and 37 years old? and from belfast? I dont know what sort of music ye like but ( here i go again, plugging stiff little fingers) have a listen to Jake burns' song ( not done by stiff little fingers. it is jake burns and the big whell) called " belfast14"

Ken

I am sure there are a few from N.Ireland here Geraldine, canny remember the names though.
It would take me about 4 hours to get there and 4 hours back so I think I might not be coming. I am next to the bonnie banks of loch lomond in scotland. But if ye ever go to any of the folk festivals ( jura, balloch, perth) then let us know and we can have a wee jam.

good luck

yes geraldine, you can say it, you could even post a link to it.
As long as it has something to do with music and you are not spamming continually, feeel free to say what you want.
As long as there is no swearing, cursing, slagging others, spamming porn, it is normally very relaxed in here.

Ken

talking of big balls,
AC/DC write a lot of tunes that have sexual meanings in them hidden over the way the lyrics are sang, like you shook me all night long, The jack, touch too much, giving the dog a bone, inject the venom etc etc and BIG BALLS. Songs which if an innoecnt young kid listened to them, they would not have a clue about the sexual innuendos
I was playing this song in my car on a compilation I had made up about 2 months ago.
My son and daughter ( 9 and 7 years old) started laughing uncontrollably in the back seat. I asked them what they were laughing at and they both said through their laughs that the song was very funny.
I told them that the big balls were not what they were laughing at but in fact it meant big dances, lol. It didn't work!! My son said he was still thinking of it as the "other meaning" When I asked him what " the other meaning " meant he said couldnt stop laughing and was pointing to his " other meaning", this made my 7 year old daughter laugh even more.
They nearly peed themsleves when I started singing along at the bit where it goes " some balls are held for charity and some for fancy dress, but when they're held for pleasure they're the balls that I like best"
Yeah, so ac/dc failed to hide the meaning this time in the song, lol.
Think I will go play it and blast it out in the house, see if the kids start singing along.

Phil and rebel

Those two last posts are probably nearly the best posts I have read relating to chordie.

If ever there was an advertisement for chordie, these two posts get my vote!1
A truthful post without trying to promote anything, that is the best kind of thing to say about anything.

I dont know if I have got better at playing but I have learned quite a bit from reading advice from people, even from things others have asked and others have replied.

It is good to know the forum is doing what I think the intent was for!
We can have general chit chat and friendly advice. Good advice !! from the more experienced players that want to share their wisdom fo playing.
Without the chordians this forum would be full of nonsense and spam and junk with the occasion serious post, but it has went the right way, more serious posts and the occasional nonsense.

While I am typing this I cannot even remember what the topic actually is ( I have went off on one and cannot shut up now, lol)

oh yeah ( had to look ) styles of playing! strumming!! a good song about that, lol, strummerville
Not really about strumming but a dedication to Joey strummer from the clash. Wrote by Jake Burns ( stiff little fingers) on how Joey inspired him and more to play and be in a band.
( sorry, I keep plugging Jake and SLF, I really dont want to, just canny help myself)

ok, topic of conversation must continue..........

I am still a strummer trying to pick with two fingers

Per,

When I went into a song to alter it slightly for me to print it out it ended up different.

It is all to do with the appostrpohy used in words like you're, we're don't etc.
Before I went in to tamper with it I got

I don't quite know

then I deleted a few things to use less space and when i opened the song back up I got

I dont  quite know

the song was  http://www.chordie.com/chord.pere/?url= … ranspose=0

I took the appostrophies out so it looks ok just now.

yes Jerome you are correct. It is not really the chord G it is only the shape of the G chord when playing open, but I am sure he knew what I meant. ..... maybe???? perhaps?????? hope so.
but if not, then now he knows lol

rock bands?
well depends what sort of rock.lol

I love stiff little fingers, the who, pink floyd, clash, chili peppers, ozzy, metallica,
probably along the same as last rebel, I love a lot of stuff apart from crap like rap, hiphop, dance, rave etc, doof doof music, manufactured rubbish etc.

Ken

AC/DC are in my top 5 all time favourite bands.

I dont know if I could pick a top 5 from them but trying to do so without mentioning any of their more famous songsI would choose

little lover.
ride on
dirty deeds
kicked in the teeth
rock'n'roll aiint.....

hmm, lots lots lots more to choose from. This might not even be my top 5 not so famous songs from them but will be in my top 20.

and even after all these years they still know how to rock a crowd on stage. BUT, after seeing them the last time, Angus' fingers just dont move as fast as they did in the early 80's, but he can still pull it off and outplay most guitarists half his age.

I thought it was REg that wrote it since he collected all those royalties from the wets??
if not then I have failed to answer correctly ,lol

Ken

p.s. talking of wet wet wet, I never mentioned in another thread that I went to shcool with the drummers daughter, Met marty pellow a few times, I sort of knew his brother ( glad I dont at all now) and I saw wet wet wet before they became famous in a pub in Clydebank when I was 16, they were awful!!

hi badboy,

Like Jerome says that is in the key of G,
Now if you want to know how to change it to the key of A then you can put a capo on the second fret and continue to play the G chord and C chord and D chord.
Puting a capo and playing these chords makes you in the scale of A without transposing chords.

Another way is to count the notes you are transpossing.

If you play an A chord instead of the G then you have transposed up 2 notes ( G#, A )

So, with you knowing you have went up two notes now you think of your C note and go up two, so the C becomes D ( C#, D)
your D becomes E.

Or without thinking about it if you go to a song in chordie, you can just use the transpose feature.

Blue suede shoes was Carl Perkins

wel, I never knew that. I have never even heard of carl perkins.

It was Elvis that made it a hit, it is Elvis' version the majority of the world know the song for.

You could go one better and find out who wrote all the other songs mentioned here since Elvis didnt write any of his own songs.

Elvis is remembered for being a singer and mostly an entertainer, not a songwriter
So to pull someone up for mentioning a carl perkins song that elvis sang and made more famous than the actual writer just kaes it look like you are saying it was not Elvis' song where it was in a way since he made it big.
Just like Wet wet wet made love is all around bigger than the original that the troggs done.
Just like Jimmy done a better version of Wild thing
Just like the Byrds done Mr Tambourine man and made it more famous than Dylan did.
Just like All the young dudes was a bowie song, a song he deliberatly wrote for them so they did not split up due to not having any writing skills left.
Just like Streets of london was made massive by the beatles and not the great original by Ralph McTell ( or whatever he was called, lol)
just like .... just  like..... just like ..... just like..... just like I dont have to go on and on do I?

Elvis sang all the songs he sang, and performed them on stage better than anyone else could have I think.
Now, this perky guy might have a wee bit of a following even though I have never heard of him, but a few million elvis fans, even 30 years after his death cannot be wrong.

ok,
rant over smile

Here is a song I wrote based on my own experiences, I wrote it a few years ago about when I saw my dad after thirtenn years of not seeing or hearing from him.
I think I should re-record this song.

DADDY WHERE DID YOU GO?Ken Godwin ( distorted minds)

pretty damn fast song

I[C]ts been thir[Am]teen years s[F]ince I saw you l[G]ast

And a lot has happened in my past

I am all grown up now with two kids and a wife

I love being a father in my life

(chorus)

L[C]ife without a father was really h[Em]ard

No friendly smile no birthday ca[C]rd

No strict rules I had to ob[Em]ey

Sometimes I thought I would make you pa[D]y

Bu[D]t bitterness is not I[C]nside of[G] me

M[D]aybe a little bit but it’s[C] hard to [G]see

(break)

D[F#m]addy where did you go where did you go where did you[Em] go

D[F#m]addy where did you go where did you[Em] go

I cant remember if you ever said goodbye

And I don’t kow if you even tried

But what I do know is that you never kept in touch

Although it did bother me I never show it much

(chorus)

daddy where were you when I needed you

I grew up without   knowing you

As the years passed I began to accept

Life    without a father

Daddy where did you go where did you go where did you go

Daddy where did you go where did you go

Chorus

cheers James.

The parks round here are not that bad, they are safe enough to walk through, at least a lot safer than parks elsewhere in the world. Ye still get allsorts going on behind the bushes and trees etc, but that is people hiding and not wanting to cause any hassle.
I love the park next to me but I hates the old park where I lived.

Is there a way to search for songs by genre ? I would like to search for blues songs - thanks

no there is no search by genre, but you could try looking up public songbooks to see if anyone has created a blues songbook or rock songbook etc.

another way is to google " top 100 blues songs" then come back into chordie and do a song search for it

hi phil.

here
http://www.chordie.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=1957
James posted this on how to do this.

If it is just chords you want to show then follow the intructions, just leave lyrics out.
But if you type in  for example
[G]   [C]   etc then it will come up with the chord diagram

Hi phil

Great writing there and even more so it is a true story, it makes it that much more special.

But for lyrics for a song? hmmm, if I was you, I would either leave it as it is as a deep meaningful poem or like Roger says, break it into verses.

Maybe make a chorus up that will reflect the whole song and how you felt in one chorus?
or  dont have a chorus and leave it as a story but still break it up and have short instrumental parts inbetween the verses.

I was actually just working on my own song that I have just posted in the songwriters section , I named it " dog walkers, joggers, tramps and drunks."
After walking in Balloch park last night for my wife's " family after dinner walk " that she has decided is a good thing to do. I saw how full it was wit hdog walkers and joggers. Then I thought about Dalmuir park where I used to live and how it was full of wee neds drinking and old tramps wondering about at night.
So I combined the two parks together and wrote a song.
