I'm considering a new wah pedal. The Morley combo pedal I have has a very thin sound to it, and so it basically just gets used as a volume pedal. The front runners are these two, which both have an initial sound that I like, as well as the ability to adjust both the width and the length of the effect:

Has anyone had any expereince with either of these, and what can you tell me about tone, features (good or bad), durability, reliability, etc. All feedback (pun intended) gratefully received!

Good to hear from you, Bill ... I expected something had caught your attention recently, and am very glad y'all are okay. Whatcha been listening to for music lately?

Another great group I've never heard of ... good stuff, BGD. Keep 'em coming!

Awesome stuff! I like what one of the YouTube viewers wrote, about how good the classic country is, compared to today's stuff which he states sounds like disco.

Good info, MKM ... thanks.

I did know that Alanis was Canadian, but am badly out-numbered here on Chordie, so didn't wan't to overdo it with the flag waving! lol

And regarding Anna Nalick and the whole popularity thing ... popularity is pointless. It can be bought by purchasing airplay time on the mainstream radio stations, and when the DJs start calling it a hit, the mindless masses will consider it a hit. Good music is good music. Most of the prog rock and fingerstyle I like isn't popular, but who cares, right?

Anna's work is terrific, and stands on it's own two feet. Keep this great material coming, MKM. I'm enjoying this new world of talent I would never have heard of, if you weren't introducing it to us.

Very good, MKM ... her "sound" reminds me a lot of Alanis Morissette. I liked "Scars" best in her SoundCloud offering.

Wow ... it almost seems like sacrilege to say it, but I like this version as good as Jimi's. Shorty doesn't really have your typical guitar player's hands, does he?

Phil Manzanera    "Diamond Head"    BBC Studio, London

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=76vZq_8 … tml5=False

Phil Targett-Adams (Manzanera is his stage name) is one of those amazing guitarists, who has habitually shunned being the centre of attention for most of his career. His resume is very impressive, from early work with as lead guitarist for Brain Eno and Roxy Music, to his own projects such as 801 and Quiet Sun, to collaborations with Pink Floyd, David Gilmour, Steve Winwood, and John Cale ... to name only a few. He has co-produced and co-written with all of these, and in recent years has been second guitar for David Gilmour on his tours.

On top of all this, he is a spectacular guitarist, with a way of putting emotion into his playing that few can match. His creative use of sustain, string bending, intonation, tremolo, and pick attack are all hallmarks of his unique style. Hope y'all enjoy this one!

Don't know how I missed this one, but it's awesome.  Reminds me of something the late John Denver may sing. Perhaps as spring is upon us you could do a follow up.

That's an awesome idea, KIR! I'm going to tuck this idea away until our leaves start to come out, and I'm enjoying my first early morning coffee on the deck. That's usually early-May in our climate. There should be lots of sights, smells, and sounds to work with.

Great suggestion ... I'm excited!

So I sat on the deck during sun-up yesterday, listening to all of the birds, taking in the smells, etc. ... looking for inspiration to complete the second part of this poem. And it's like my head was full of chicken noodle soup ... nothing. Poetry should just flow, 'cause when I try to write something, it's horridly awful. Eventually ...

Good choice, Badeye ... I always thought Marty would've made a great cowboy in the old Westerns. He just had that look about him.

Leadbelly's original version is still the best!

I also like John Baldry's version from his 1971 album "It Ain't Easy". Great choice, Badeye ... long live the "Friday Blues Fix"!

Good question, KIR ...

There's a lot of pick-less notes they use, by tapping the string in the frets. Mine won't give that level of volume or definition when I do it, and neither do several high-end guitars I've tried in several stores. No problem on the electric, due to the way the string vibes are captured magnetically. I suspect they're using a higher fret wire to enable this technique, which is vital to playing this style properly ... more research needed.

I've started noodling around with some of Tobias Rauscher's teaching on his "Fingerstyle Guitar Academy" website, and will be featuring some of his work in coming weeks:

Thanks for the interest, KIR ... it certainly is a style of playing that absorbs ones attention!

Tangerine Dream    "Stratosfear"    Zurich, 2012

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_fUdWBZoXgE

This was the title track of TD's 1976 album, which was their 8th. It has morphed through several incarnations, such as this one here which features the amazing guitar work of Bernhard Beibl. Not all of TD's original fans like these newer versions, especially with the pronounced percussive elements from Iris Camaa. I still can't believe that it's now over a year since founder Edgar Froese (white hair, stage left) passed away.

John Butler's  "Ocean"  (original composition)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jdYJf_ybyVo

Something a bit different this week ... fingerstyle on a 12-string. John Butler's another great musician from the land down under. I love the comment on YouTube from someone's 6-year-old daughter:

"How come he's not singing?"  followed by  "Ohhh ... the guitar's singing for him."  Well said!

Badeye ...

Whatever you decide to do, I thank you for staying at this for almost 7 years, which you started in September 2009. You've introduced us to a TON of great music, and inspired people like me to make contributions also. You have helped make Chordie one of the best discussion forums online, and we all thank you.

I don't know enough about the blues to be able to fill your boots, so I hope someone else steps in.

Thanks again, Badeye!

Your guitar, UJB, reminds me of an Ibanez "Hummingbird" knock-off I had in high school (early 70's). The body shape in particular (upper bout being almost as wide as the lower bout) made mine look weird. When I saw yours, it has that same shape. Add to this the way the bridge is pinned (might be a repair), the shape of the back inlay, the shape of the headstock, the style of tuners, etc. Here's a sample cut from their 1976 catalogue:

http://s93105080.onlinehome.us/Ibanez-Catalogs/catalog/1976-9/09.jpg

They made a lot of different acoustics throughout the 70's, and the patterns in your guitar show up in many of them .... but just a guess, 'cuz the manufacture numbers don't line up with any of their model numbers. You can scan through all their old catalogues here if you like:
