Guess I butchered that name, huh? wink

For speed, I liked Danny Gatton, but he up'n died, didn't he. (That's the way you say it down here. Never just "died". For some reason, they have to get "up" to do it. Go figure. smile smile  )

Anyway, yeah, TF speed without melody sucks. smile

Amy and Arkady: Do I just put Ark's name in YT or are there some links?

Thanks all. I plan to listen to this and also Russell's work later this evening. Right now, SWMBO's got me doing chores. Yep, she's feeling better. She's back to........  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j_QLzthSkfM

Love y'all!

Damn! I sure didn't know that, BGD.

"Sue me and see what happens" ???!!!! What a penile thing to say, especially since they were helping him out.

I have to admit he comes across as kinda strange when I've seen him on SNL, and now I'm thinking that maybe ol' Art knew a thing or two way back then. If I remember correctly, that split wasn't really an amicable one anyway.

A quote which I believe belongs to that Grand Central Park live album attributed to Simon: "So, Artie. You've come crawling back." It was funny then but not so funny now that I have read what you linked me to, BGD.

Damn.

Thanks

Bill

ETA: And if I said "I don't like coming in second to Dylan", would I expect a collaboration with the man? Not really.

Well, could you pretend you're that Doug Smith, then? I mean, that's a lot of words of praise I just wrote and if you played as well as that guy, I'd have written them to you instead. smile

All kidding aside thanks for being a bud and my personal Doug Smith. That goes for everyone here.

Hmmm. Joe, I was just thinking about you getting permission from the site owner to use the logo just as it is - enlarged - and, unless you wanna do it, get a decent sign painter to do you up a couple? Even though I can't make it, I'd be happy to contribute to the cost.

Worth a shot?

I was just thinking about you and found the perfect song to dedicate to you. Listen especially closely to the "Chet's Guitar Course" part right at the first. That's you all over, Buddy! smile

Damn, damn damn! I must have been living under a musical "rock" not to have known who you were, Doug. smile As you can probably tell, I'm just back from your site and I'm speechless and more than a little embarrassed. I should probably crawl into my bass drum and live there from now on. smile smile smile

Seriously though, we're a college town here in Carrollton, GA and we have quite a Humanities Department with a year-long season of all types of entertainment. It's The University of West Georgia, and if you're available, I'd like to have the person responsible for booking contact your management. I'm an alumnus, but due to my mental challenges don't do much with the club these days.

If your wife could make it, it would be a double treat and I now have an ulterior motive to get you down here (bwa-ha): Getting to meet you and hearing you (and maybe your wife) playing live.

Think it might be a possibility? I'm sure it would be a sell-out.

You made my whole day, here, Mr. Smith.

Thank you!

First off, I see what you did there, my friend! wink

Just a few comments: I found the playing and music presented very pleasing and ...... amazing. The finger picking on #1 especially. I will have to click on more of Mr. Graham's work. Same goes for #2, That guy keeps that thumbnail nice and long which makes for a very nice percussive sound to complement those he makes with his other fingers.

[short note on this post: I am writing my comments as I listen or just after in case the reading of the post sounds a little disjointed to you. smile ]

3. Do I know this guy sorta "personally"? Gee Whiz, Doug! I never even knew I was "speaking" with a virtuoso guitarist. At my age and given my history with music, I've often thought there's nothing new to be heard for me, but here you come with no warning of what I was about to hear and see, and whammo, I've found what I thought was gone or had eluded me. I have no superlatives, Doug that you haven't heard or read before, so what I plan to do is visit your site, buy some of your work, ask if I can have an autographed picture for my "My Wall of Fame", and tell folks they're listening to a "virtual personal friend of mine" and hoping they skip over the word virtual in
hearing me say it.

Adding the expletive "WOW" to "Gee Whiz" is about the best I can do, my (virtual) friend. I'm totally amazed. Thank you!

4. Beautiful. I've heard "Water Is Wide" before and it isn't hard to imagine a river with Mark Hanson sitting on the banks playing this.

5. Never having heard "Ebon Coast" and lacking the expertise of some of the commenters, I can't really speak intelligently enough to critique the song, Doug. It's beautiful to hear and when I found out that the baritone guitar by Greenfield is $14k, I almost croaked. Plus, now I have the added "Burdon" of comparing the rest of all these guys' playing to yours! smile

6. I agree with one of the comments: The person wrote "this feels like walking through a city at night". One can hear the "frantic" sounds of a city in the performer's playing. Can you tell I'm big on tone poems? I love The Moldau from Pictures At An Exhibition and my all-time favorite, "The Grand Canyon Suite".

7. "Ocean" looks hard as hell to play, Doug, but to a drummer it all looks hard to play, so most of us are satisfied, during a performance, just to stick with the bass player and pray he has a good sense of "time". That guitar looks like it's had its share of beers and then some, doesn't it, but so does Willie's. Doesn't distract from the sound, though.

Thanks for sending these to me, my friend. I thoroughly enjoyed every piece I listened to and plan to make a playlist. Especially one of that Smith guy! smile

Bill

Or is that one very excellent work the zenith of his career.

I loved hearing both Simon and Garfunkel during my high school years, but then they split and I went with Paul, thinking Art had gone into acting and releasing only the occasional single. All were good, but not up to the duo's work before. In short, I was disappointed that they split up.

I paid attention to Paul's work only sporadically after that, but enjoyed listening to his stuff enough to buy the "Greatest Hits" recording.

Then came "Graceland" and I was knocked on my German Arsch! I had never heard Zydeco before, or maybe I did and just didn't know that was what it was called. Since buying the first vinyl, I have worn out three cd's of what I call his "masterpiece" and the last time I remember getting that excited was when The Beatles released "Sgt. Pepper".

Sadly, The Beatles are no more, so every now and then I wonder about Mr. Simon: Can he do it again?

What does the Forum think?

Thanks

Bill

PS: I have always been smugly proud of the fact that I knew what Paul was singing about with the lyrics, "The Mississippi Delta was shining like a National guitar." I bet y'all were too, weren't you? wink

I'm a die-hard Ventures fan. The very first band I ever drummed for, "The Volcanos" (misspelling was deliberate, because we wanted just as many letters in our band name as our heroes had), played only instrumentals. This was just before The Beatles hit, so after that happened, we kinda went our own ways.

So play me some instrumentals, guys and ladies, if you please. I don't really care about the genre you'll play, but I'm partial to surf and that guitar style they play in Westerns.

If you have anything on YT, please post some links. I'd love to hear you play.

Thanks

I know y'all have had some bad stuff happen in Lafayette last night (the shootings), and I was sure sorry to hear about that, but I'd kinda like to know how you're getting along and thank you for the kind words of support during Dondra's most recent hospitalization.

You mentioned your diabetes and having to take up to 5 shots of insulin a day, and I was wondering how you're doing getting used to your pump, my friend? From what little I know/remember from my days as a respiratory therapist, I believe your stage of diabetes is known as 'brittle", is that right?

During one of my recent bicycle rides (2009) for the Humane Society, I met a young lady who had with her a service dog that was trained to react to her ketonic breath. Reading one of your posts to me a few days ago, I was reminded of this and wondered if you had one or even had need of one.

Thanks again for looking out for us both and please let us know how you're doing, please Sir.

Thanks

Wow! We're totally whacko over this song, Phill!!!!

Sorry I'm just now getting around to posting about it, but we've been a little busy here.

The way I even heard it for the first time might interest you, my friend: Dondra and I were listening to TIG's "(Lift Me Up On) Angel's Wings" on Soundcloud and the very next song in the queue was yours.

When it began playing, I looked up at my address bar, thinking I had left one of the radio channels on.

Well, imagine my surprise when I looked at the lineup of tunes and saw your whole nickname (including the 2 L's wink ).

"Hey! That's Phill from CHORDIE!", I said, and sure enough, I did a search here and found the link.

So long story short, I thought we'd been listening to the radio, heard your tune, loved it and were mightily pleased to learn it was you.

And that's our compliment. smile

Been there, done that, Phill. Back in my drinking days, I used to go through at least one kb a year because of a slow computer.

If the poor thing could speak, I'm sure it would have asked me, "Hey! What'd I do???" wink

Glad you're back up and runnin', my friend!

When you're all cried out, you've endured just about every pain imaginable to the soul and body, and you feel like all the strength in you has withered away to the point that quitting makes perfect sense......... but for some reason, you don't...............

it is then, that you know that the love you have for each other  is very real, you know that the friends that continue to support you  and offer hope as well as their prayers will always continue, and somehow you will find the courage and the path to overcome your sufferings, and to see the sunrise of another day and enjoy the love and happiness that ensues.

Wishing you and your wife  peace, strength, and love on the way to recovery.

Doug and Zurf

We're both doing great today, and Dondra's heart rhythm and blood pressure have been under control since we've gotten home. Last blood pressure reading was 162/73, and that's WONDERFUL for her. smile

Zurf, please overlook my dumbness about "Happy Boy". I didn't mean you had to rush right along and learn it. I'm not thinking too clearly right now after the whole last week and a half. So please, please, PLEASE excuse me if it came across that way. I've just been trying to keep everyone here at "Casa Craig" in good spirits by playing all these tunes y'all have done for my Dondra.

I know I have more people to thank, so I am going through all the posts to make sure I haven't forgotten anyone. If I have forgotten someone, please excuse me. I hope you all know how precious you are to us and how grateful we are for being with us throughout this whole ordeal.

We send our thanks and love,

Bill and Dondra Craig

And NOT one B or B7 anywhere to be found, TIGger! smile smile smile. I had been meaning to tell you that, but with all the stuff that's been going on here, I just kept forgetting. Dondra just heard the latest version, liked it so much that she asked me to learn it for our anniversary.

"Which one?" (anniversary), I asked her.

^That's going to take some explaining and it's been a "private" joke just between she and I, but since you, TIG, along with all my other friends are now family, I'll let you in on it.

I may have mentioned that she and I are married for the second time (there were 22 years between marriage 1 and 2 with no other marriages inbetween - long story). Well, for some reason we both have been forgetting our second marriage's anniversary and have been going back and forth since about which one we ought to honor.

We still haven't come to a satisfactory date, so what do my friends here think?

Sounds like a song, don't it? smile smile smile

Ah, but that's my life: A sitcom, and I'm enjoying it more and more as I look back. Enjoying it more now that I'm part of our musical family, too!

Thanks a million, Jim for that beautiful, and more than fitting song which I plan to learn and sing for my bride who I loved so much I married her twice! smile

I wish I could sleep, but I have to keep an "ear" out should my wife need me. Tomorrow our son will be on the watch.

I know this sounds excessive, and I don't mean for this to be all about me, but I couldn't stand to lose her again. Not after the second time being married to her and having found my love again.

I have something to tell you (if I've never told you before). Your sig line always reminds me of Nigel Tufnel's quote.

Bill

I have.

Maybe it's just my feminine side coming out (yuk-yuk), but when I hear someone's performance of a particular song, sometimes it touches me so deeply the only way I can express it is with tears.

Before I name them, I'll need to let you know these are not the originals, but just folks with whom I have come in contact, whether in a bar, small congregation (yup, sometimes "She Who Must Be Obeyed" manages to drag me to church), a campfire, and sometimes just in my face.

1. A street musician singing "Give Peace A Chance"......... he had the whole street crowd singing with him by the time he segued into "Hey Jude", and I wasn't the only one bawlin' either! He must have made quite a haul that day, that ol' Busk-ard. smile

2. Another street musician who later became a friend and married a friend of mine. This happened in Moenchengladbach, Germany during the time (1990) when I worked for USAir during my "single days" (Dondra and I are remarried, remember.) Ola is Polish and she sang on the sidewalks of Duesseldorf and when I heard her start Almost Heaven, West Virginia, you could have heard my "brakes" skidding, I stopped so fast. I stood, damn tears streaming down my face and when she was done I tipped her 50 Euros.

That night, on duty at the Duesseldorf Airport, I told my friend Uwe about her and how she had mesmerized me, so he came along with me the next day. He wound up inviting her to come to dinner and "meet the folks" and the next thing I knew, she became Frau Uwe Genuit. Sumbitch had married her while I wasn't lookin'.

3. The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra (again during my single days) playing the "Moonlight Sonata". At that time, I was seated next to the little girl (now a grown woman) who had accepted my invitation for a visit after I got her a cheaper rate ticket due to my airline employment.

I don't really know why that one started me shedding some tears, but I think it had to do with the "lost years". We left Germany when I was 11.

4. Last but not least --- just today ---- as Dondra and I listened to our Amy singing her songs for us.

I also cry when I hear "The Blue Danube" and other pretty waltzes.

Maybe that's why I never got invited to parties???? wink smile wink

My answer to what was sent to us:

==========================================

Hey Amy

I had to get her up and sit her in my office chair and told her what she was about to hear would be the sweetest voice in the world and coming from the sweetest lady musician I know. She listened to both, enjoyed the little wave, all the smiles and we hugged and cried a little during "Bobby McGhee". When I learned it, I sang it for her playing my Jasmine, but couldn't get the notes you reached. wink

Thank you so much for the time and the lovin of us both.

Thanks, Zurf and Amy (got your mail) for your continued kindness to us. Neither one of us realized it, but we're both exhausted. She from the hospitalization and lying in bed, me from just the running around, paying bills, etc....... So today we're both "geezing" (what "Geezers" - those of us over 50, do,  according to the kids) in bed next to each other. Jason's being our gofer and D has promised to respond as soon as she feels not so "washed" out.

I'm watching her like a hawk, so please don't worry about her, okay?

May I share with you the phone call I got today?

=============================================

Voice One: "Hey, Bro', what's up? Dondra home yet?"

Me: "Yep, she was discharged yesterday"

Voice One: "Great! Y'all need anything?"

Me: "No, not at the moment, thanks."

Voice One: "We meant to come by and see about her, but you know how it is, time just got away from us."

Me: "It happens. Don't worry about it."

Voice One: "Anyone else been by?"     (Now why would he ask that??)

Me: (After a short pause) "Just some musicians I know checked in every day."

Voice one: "Oh Hell!. You're back in a band????"

Me: "Yep. I'm in a band."

Voice One: "Well, how cool is that???? At your age! Still beatin' them skins! Well, call us if ya need us. Bye.

Me: "Bye" ...... click dial tone.

Anyone catch what's missing here? smile
