For the second year in a row, I had my face rocked off last night by some of the best guitar players in the world, all paying homage to Jimi for 3 hours or so. It was one of the best performances I've ever seen. If the Experience Hendrix tour comes anywhere near you, you can't miss it. Where else are you going to see Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Jonny Lang, Brad Whitford, Steve Vai, Eric Johnson, Living Colour, Ernie Isley, Billy Cox, Los Lobos and Chris Layton share a stage and play nothing but Hendrix covers? Wow.

I did a full review of the show on my blog, if y'all are interested in reading:

Don't overuse it - t'will make your sound way too flat. Good luck with the new stomp boxes!

Should be arriving any time now....with a couple of additional slides. smile

Sometimes you intentionally manipulate the pick's contact point with the string and the angle of attack to change your sound.

I pick towards or away from the sound hole / pickups all the time if I'm intentionally trying to get the string to slap against the fretboard. It sounds cool.

Using your fingering is a great way to increase hand strength and dexterity in the less used fingers. Try playing a G without your index finger, as well!

My band is playing our 2nd show this Saturday AM at a Relay for Life event here in Las Vegas. I was excited already, but now very much more so because I found out that the band after us has backed out. We've volunteered to pick up the slack and play two 45 minute sets instead of one.

As of right now, we do not have 90 minutes of material. A challenge! Woo-ha! Time to hit the "3 chord song" page and start memorizing lyrics. smile

At any rate, we're playing from the rock star hours of 9-11 AM, at the very end of the event. It should be a blast. If anyone is in town (or if there are any S. Nevada lurkers), come on out! It should be a blast.

As a side note, my band is chipping in and matching all donations through our team page, $2 per $1 donated up to $500. If any of you want to take advantage of that and have your (tax deductible) donation tripled, here's a link:

I keep bumping 'picks around the world' but nobody wants the box. I've been sitting on it for 3 weeks now. sad

that is most likely the bridge pulling. Happens from string tension. I'm not sure what you can do about it....clamping it may help but only in the very short term.

f# minor would be a barre chord on the 4th fret with which ever string you have the 3rd on, lowered by 1/2 step. If you're tuning the G string down for the open D, that means the chord would be

4

3
4
4

Bm would be the same thing, just a few frets up!

I was just corrected by a much better musician than me, who points out that there is no C7, just a C chord, perhaps a C power chord in the Raitt version of the riff. DAMMIT! I was close though. wink

Was trying to rip off your post, should've said "the east part of the USA" but I guess I butchered that mofo all up.

There's some really cool stuff in here. I'm adding a few things including something uniquely Vegas. Question: is the box the same box that has been used on the whole trip? If so, I might re-wrap this thing using a newer, less beat up outer box and put the old box inside there...the box was pretty ratty when I got it.

Someone message me with where this thing needs to go next!!!

Box showed up in lovely Las Vegas yesterday! It took it's sweet time getting here from the east coast but I can't blame it - the weather is nice and its a great time of year for a scenic drive.

Sadly, I'm headed to San Fran for work in about 90 minutes so I'll have to wait and open it once I get back!

Verse is in A but there's some interesting flavoring going on. Instead of playing the 3rd scale degree as a C#m or C#m7, they lower the root of the chord to feature the flatted 3rd scale degree, which makes it a C7 chord. (Shout out to the blues scale.)The G chord represents the b7 of A. So it's actually a I-bIII-bVII progression.

Then the mofo changes key on ya. smile

To internalize tempo, you can also set the metronome to click only once per 4 beats or once per 8 beats, for instance only on beat 1 or every other beat 1. (Or beat 2 if you are practicing jazz.)

The idea is that as you play along with it your internal tempo gets better. smile

Three pieces are a lot thinner with less options than larger groups. IMO most listeners will relate to hooks, which is typically any signature leads and also melodies in the vocals. You're just going to have to figure out what the most important hooks in a song are and play around 'em.

you might also have to do some arrangement and play covers "your way," not anything like the originals, due to the thin instrumentation.

Lots of times a song will begin on the tonic. That's not always true though. Lots of songs also start on the relative minor, the IV or the V. Examples:

What's Your Name by Skynyrd - guitar riff starts on the bIII, resolving to the IV.
Wild Horses starts on the iii if I remember correctly.
Mr Jones (by Counting Crows) starts on the relative minor (vi) chord.

Butch if it was a more typical chord I'd agree with you - that's typically a good way of looking at things in most pop/rock music. That said, look at D/F# and G/b for exceptions to the rule. smile
