Very nice looking guitar!  I've stayed away from Takamine because of the mellow sound.  I like to hear a bit more ring when I play... but then... that whole attitude could be changing as time does.  I'm thinking, if my guitar were miked, I might prefer a more mellow sound.  It's a really great looking guitar and I'm glad my instructions helped you to post your pics!

Good for you getting it for such a low price.  I do hope that the neck doesn't give you any issues!

HAPPY NGD!

Sad, all the way around.  Sad that there's NOT a fire company covering this area.  I live in a rural area, and from what I understand about volunteer fire companies, the choice to have one in the district IS decided by the taxpayers.  Do they want to pay taxes to support a VOLUNTEER unit?  Clearly the people in this area chose NOT TO.  Since the majority chose NOT to pay taxes to have a company in their area, they were then each given the option to have a neighboring fire company cover their home individually, and these particular people chose NOT TO once again.  Like BunBun, I am really offended (for no reason other than making proper choices in life) that this story was written in a way that makes the firemen look bad.  Now don't get me wrong, I absolutely HATE paying taxes ... BUT... when I hear that siren go off you bet your buns I get out of their way on the road and am very thankful that they are there, have the proper supplies to put out fires, are so close, and that they have contracts with all the local districts in the event they need help... and all of this is covered by my taxes.  Mind you, my "area" is really quite SMALL!  But they're there, and that siren goes off every single day and there are other 2 other fire houses within 5 miles of my home.  I'm quite positive I pay MORE than $75 in taxes each year to support my local fire company.  It's really pathetic to me that someone wouldn't pay such a small fee and then spin a story around to make it look like it's someone's fault other than their own that no one put out their fire.

I do agree with lvchief too... BUT, again it was these people's choice to NOT have coverage.  It's America and all, they have the right to choose to not ask for help in saving their home.  I'm sure if there were known live people inside the home the firemen would have had the "right" to save them and send a bill after the fact.  If THAT isn't written somewhere then there's a bigger problem than we all realize.

Sure... and I'm getting an ad for Scope.  Apparently, I need to freshen up my breath a little more so perhaps some day I can find an ad for a millionaire... if only I'd help him get his green card.

Sadly enough, a friend of mine actually found a guy that was "so nice and awesome" who she married, only to find out that he wasn't so nice and really was just looking for that green card.  Of course, having a wife and child in the US made that much easier for him.  He turned even more evil after the baby was born.  Happily, he is no longer in the picture (but she has a rather large legal bill).  BUYERS BEWARE!  That Thai wife you buy may cost you far more than the price of shipping her to you in the long run.

WOW!  Ok... so I talked with the hubby last night and he was thinking that since individual pedals can be had so cheap (like around $20) ... and we don't REALLY know for sure what effects the boy is looking for... maybe the best thing to do is just take him shopping.  I wanted to surprise him, hubby wants to allow him to shop, I want him to have the present to play with it ON Christmas, we're pretty back and forth on this.  I think maybe this is a decision best left up to the user... much like an acoustic guitar purchase!

It's been a while since we've set him loose in the guitar stores and just let HIM look (we're mean, usually we are looking and make him keep an eye on his sisters so they don't destroy anything).  I do think Russell's set up is an AMAZING Value, especially after looking at the reviews and prices of used units available... but I'm going to have to pass.  You guys have all made my head spin a little.  There's so many options!  Yep... I think we're just going to go take him shopping and see what he picks.  I think I'll tell him, "Pick something assuming you only have $50.  Now something assuming you have $150.  Now something assuming you have $250-350"  And see just WHAT it is he really wants!

If anyone has more suggestions or ideas, please keep them coming!  I am going to show the hubster all these suggestions.  When I'm ready for sure to say we're going shopping, I'll show him too so he can make an informed shopping decision of his own.  I want to make sure he's going to be happy as I think this will be his main present this year.  That means, electric gear and some socks.  LOL!  Teenagers are so hard to buy for, everything they want is just so expensive!  My two little girls are going to be thrilled to death with each little $5-10 item they open.  I miss when he was little and so much easier to please!

smile  Thanks for the tip Russell!  My only dilemma is my husband is a NOTORIOUS last minute shopper... so I'll have to talk him into this very soon if it's to get here in time for Christmas!  I'm going to do a little research today and talk with him and get back to you asap.  smile

Jerry - Thanks for the response.  It's good to know that Boss is top of the line (especially since that's what Russell's selling).

So if I get this right... guitar plugs into pedal then you need the same type of chord to go from pedal to amp... and pedal also needs power.  So really, we'll just need ONE extra lead because he obviously already has one that he uses from the guitar to the amp.

So, here I am again in the Electric section around Christmas trying to figure out what to get for my son.  You know, my acoustic doesn't have any options for different sounds/tones except for a slight change in tonality with a string change.  I like it that way.  I really do prefer the acoustic sound to any electric.  Every time I pick up one of their guitars, I fiddle with the controls on the amp and the switch on the guitar until it sounds... almost like an acoustic.  LOL!

Anywhooooo... My son is 15 now and doesn't seem to want much of anything (except money, never having to do chores, and to drive my car in about 5 months when he hits 16), but he did mention maybe a multi-effects pedal, or something of the sort for Christmas.  Sooooo, I really don't know the first thing about them.  What should I get AND what do I need?  Can I really just pick up a pedal, or is there some do-hicky I need that goes with it to make it work properly?  Will I need extra cable?  More about my son if it helps... My son doesn't have much rhythm built into him, he likes to figure out lead guitar parts, he can read chords and tab, he seems to like some of the classic rock (yes, it's making a come back in the youth), and he also likes pop music (I consider it to sound a bit like rap, but apparently it's really Pop and I'm old and don't know anything.  I really don't see him playing any of it on an electric guitar... he can make some neat beat box noises though).  He just has a SMALL practice amp, you know, what would come in a beginner package deal.  I know he probably could use a slightly stronger amp, but as a general rule... he just uses headphones in the amp so it seems kind of silly to me to spend money on a better one.  If he needs a better one though because he needs extra imputs or something, that would be important to know.

Thanks in advance for any help that anyone can give.  I know my Chordie friends will be able to help me out as always!  I realize there are TONS of options out there for pedals, I just don't have a clue where to start or what goes with them, we want to make sure he can play something on X-mas morning and rock the house!  smile

Hi JimmybCool and welcome to Chordie.  To download to your pc, you need to have some type of software that can read the chordpro format.  There's a free program called Songbook that can do that.  Then you just view the chordpro version of the song and copy/paste into the program, edit as you wish and save it.  It's not as easy as simply downloading like it is with the iPad (can't wait to get an iPhone so I can do that!).

As for Beatles music, the admin has had to block these in the UK due to laws, and unfortunately he hasn't found a fool proof way to script the website.  Sometimes errors occur and people in the US are blocked.  I suggest going into your profile settings and making sure that your time zone is set properly... I'm not quite sure what it is that throws it off, but that has helped some people in the past.

Happy B.day to the Mrs!  A shopping spree sounds way better than some huge party where one is called old all evening!  Wow, you've been together for MORE than half of her life.  That's something pretty special right there to celebrate!

The interesting thing is Zurf, if you find some "beta" or free software that's still being worked on by a company, it usually comes with a person on the other end willing to help solve problems because it's their baby NOT their bread and butter.  They recognize that there are problems, and will work to try to fix them.  I'm sorry to hear you've spent a decent amount of cash on these programs without getting from them what you expect.  We all know there will be bugs, but a company that pretty much says their customers are lying rather than admitting there are issues and trying to solve them... well... that's unacceptable.

My windows 7 computer came with Corel Paintshop photo pro x3, but I mostly just use the Microsoft Live free software.  I'm surprised at how well some of the Microsoft stuff works.  I kind of thought by the time I was done with this version of windows I'd be switching to a Mac.

Personally, I think you're right on to take this position.  Karma will take care of it.  And we all know that karma is a bee-otch.

You get what you give.

I second that.  For those people in the world that will outright lie about things such as this, calling them out won't make an iota of difference anyway.  Karma or what not will be his in return for his behavior... and ... he will probably never learn his lesson.  I know a person just like this, and he's a used car salesmen.  Go figure.

The funny thing about that ebay listing is that it claims the guitar is NEW.  I must believe if it was NEW then Martin would be selling it themselves or have it in their museum, not some yahoo on ebay.  For the guitar to be NEW that means this guy bought it, and had people sign it and never played it at all.  I just don't believe it.

This past summer, some lady had backstage passes to a performance, got the signature from whoever the famous singer was (I think it was the guy from Korn maybe, I don't really listen to that stuff myself), drove straight to my husband's tattoo shop and paid my husband to tattoo a copy of the signature on her body.  I don't think it gets any more strange than that.  I'd rather my guitar be sharpied than my body tattooed with a signature.

It is pretty cool Z!  I met a guy at the local bar once that did the same thing - although out in Nashville, and I couldn't remember the names of the bands after meeting him, but the names were big ones.  Funny thing, he was just as humble as most of our chordians are.

That is craziness... I LOVE IT!  Here I am always looking for the newest electronic toy - computer, cell phone, recorder... and I always forget these things.  They just get better every time I see one.  I just don't think I have enough use for one to see buying it.  On the other hand, I think if I had one, I'd use the heck out of it and find a reason to show it off!  LOL!

From a technology standpoint, using a USB adapter with what you already have wouldn't make any difference, because it's still using the RCA technology.  Of course, this is purely an opinion based on computers... not actual trial wink

well, I am very abusive on my fingernails and they "peel" regularly especially on the ends (guitar playing, dish washing, hair washing/chemical procedures, and using my nails as tools!  LOL).  Wraps are great for pickers, because it will keep the nail from peeling to the point of becoming too weak and then breaking short.  If the wrap chips at all, you can just clean with alcohol and add a little more resin then spray.  If your fingernails are peeling on your fretting hand WHILE the nails are short, that would lead me to believe you may have a vitamin deficiency issue (or really chew the heck outta your nails too much).  It's much better to cut and file the nails than to bite them for the simple reason that ...

there are 100's of layers of nail, when you bite them you get a rough edge that can easily cause the flaking/peeling of layers therefore weakening the nail and eventually causing issues like bunbun described.

I know you guys aren't that interested in a "pretty" nail - but a healthy nail is important, and a strong nail is important for a pickers picking hand!  smile

ZURF - Let me know what you think when you get a chance to watch.  I'm sure an actual video would help.  As for the spa treatment... hmmmmmm... I must say that right about now a facial, dip in the hot tub, relaxing pedicure (FOOT RUB), and a nail wrap sounds like a wonderful way to spend some time.  I assure you, if you go to an Asian nail salon, they WILL be talking about you to each other in their native tounge.  They always do when there's a man in the nail salon... and they probably will have a difficult time understanding WHY you want the wraps.  There are also GEL nail wraps, which a lot of places do (and they might get confused and do this and charge you lots extra).  And then there's also acrylic overlays (just acrylic over your natural nail) You don't NEED gel, it's far more expensive, but it would serve the same purpose.  The wrap I described is the easiest to do on your own.  Ask grandma about fixing a broken nail with a tea bag... it's a similar idea!

As requested by Zurf (a while ago), I finally made a quick how-to for nail wraps and uploaded it to youtube.  I am hoping to get time to actually video tape it at some point, and be able to talk through an actual demonstration... but for now, here's a picture and text video to get you started.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6XoDnpkPfFQ

There's no sound, so don't bother turning up your speakers.  One thing I didn't cover in the video is that you should push the cuticles back before doing this, but I'm hoping that you don't end up putting the wrap up quite that high on our nailbed.  Yes, these are my lovely hands and pictures were taken in a very fancy way (I used my chin to push down the shutter button on my camera).  Some pics are a bit blurry, but I hope you get the idea.  To practice, you might want to actually just steal some of your wife's nail polish and try painting your nails before hand, because it's imperative that you do not get the resin on your skin (a lot of women still can't quite handle this).  Just make sure she's got some polish remover laying around first (yes, paint thinner will work if necessary) or else you'll be walking into the drug store with your winter gloves on!  LOL!

PLEASE ask questions so that when I re-do this the video will help others out.  Heck, maybe I'll even talk my husband into being my nail model for the next one.  wink

Oh... and Jeff... it couldn't have been as bad as my husband's try around the campfire during the July River Jam.  Trust me and everyone that was there... he must have stopped 10 times in his song to straighten himself out, saying a word that's not fit for Chordie, then continuing on.  I still laugh just thinking about it (and yes, I'm pretty sure I have it recorded as well).  I can't wait to hear one of your recordings!!!

Good for you Jeff!!!

Yes, continuing on and not stopping is one key to playing in front of people.  I learned that the hard way as well... you stop when you flub because it's what you're used to and just that second you realize everyone ELSE is still singing "along".  AHH!  They were so wrapped up they wouldn't have really noticed the flub or cared.

So, when's the next performance???  wink

Hey, that's not too bad really!  I tend to lose weight naturally this time of year myself.  I'm more active when it's cold than when it's warm... heat slows me down I think.  Go rake some leaves and get ready to shovel the snow (no snow?  It's ok, I have a long driveway and will have snow all winter... come on over here and get a little exercise!  lol)

On the other hand, I've made two cakes in two days... am making lasagna tonight along with homemade bread.  What I've lost the past month will likely find itself attached to my backend after this evening.  Don't worry about having a piece Zurf, I'll eat your share and save you!

actually, if you go into the recording section... you'll find TONS of info!  The Stickies will help you find people interested in collaborating.  The best way we've found to share files is to either minimize tracks down into mp3's (and use a service like gmail that will allow bigger files than most ISP's) or to use a free service like windows cloud to share files online.  Most people also will not volunteer to collab with you, however, if you contact people from the list ... you'll generally get a good response (so it helps to be on Chordie a little bit and get to "know" people to figure out who you might like to try to work with across the internet).

BEST WISHES!!  it's a challenge to do an online collab, but it sure is fun at the same time!
