Dont  buy  a  poor  quality instrument with   bad  stability  and  high  action   look  for  something  better  a second  hand   Yamaha   Pacifica  is  a  good  start   cheap   cheerful  stays  in tune   and  sounds  great  .I  often use  mine  live  in preference  to  various  other   high  end  guitars  in my  collection .An electric  guitar can often be  more  comfortable  to  play    than an  acoustic  but  at  the  end it  really  depends  on what  genre   you  are  aiming  at   . A good  compromise   between the  two  would  be  Ovations  Applause  series  as  they  are  acoustic   guitars  with  a  slim electric  type neck   very  comfortable  to  use  .Hope  this  helps

My  band  mate  Robert  has  just  picked  up a nice  old  Schaal Parlour  guitar . I  havent  been able  to  find  any info  except  for  two from the  same manufacturer  on Reverb  . I  suspect   Schall may  have  been one  of  the  German Migma  collective  of  luthiers   but  cant  find    any  references so  far , The  guitar  has  a  manufacturers  stamp burned  into  the body . Any  Help  gratefully  received.

I  was  sat   tonight   messing  with  my  uke  when I  realised   I could  probably  do  a  whole  set  playing almost the  same  3  chord  progression . A-D-E.for  all  the  songs
This  is   what  I've  come  up  with so  far
Ride  a  white  swan  ,T rex
She  does  it  right  Dr Feel good
3 little  birds  Bob Marley
Rock me  baby  Muddy  Waters
Rave on  Buddy Holly
Road  House Blues  Doors
Going Back Home  Dr Feel good
Cake walk into town Taj Mahal
Johnny  Your  too bad  Taj Mahal  (A-E-D progression basically)
Wreck of  the  old  97 Lonnie  Donegan  (same  3  chords )
Police  dog blues   Blind  Blake
Last train To  Clarksville  Monkees
So I  could  go  on  but I'd  be  at  it  all  night , Over to   you  guys  now  ,Jan?

Zurf  you  were  right ,I  certainly  wouldnt   expect  any  one  to  play  without information .When  we  rehearse   the  band  I  always  make  sure  every  one  has  the  same  chart  or   if  some  ones  part  is  playing with  a  uke  or  a  capo or  a  mandolin  etc   I  make  sure  all parts  are  shown in the  correct  key  .Hell I  even  give  the  drummer  a  copy ,

One of your best songs Jim ,a great recording.

Some  vid  of  a  cheap  Uke  I  picked  up  from  a  charity  shop .
Fitted  a  low  G  string  and  dropped the  action  a  little, hope  you like  it
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=47tpio5IxSs

Before  xmas  I  was  given  an Epiphone  Les Paul Uke  to repair  by a  friend .The  bridge  wouldn't stay  in place   no  matter  how  many   times it  was  re fixed  , Any  way  eventually after  consultation with  Epiphone ,who  were  no  use or  help I  had  a  conversation with  my  friend  and  we  decided   a  radical  repair  was  needed . So  with  out  further  ado I added two small virtually  invisible  screws to   secure  the  bridge   when re glued  .Problem solved
have  a  listen and  comment  please   .

I probably get a chance to have a go over the week end as we are confined to the house as Pam has covid  and a broken leg so between the fetching and carrying house work and cooking  I 'll have a go.

Am
On our first day of arrival
G
a soldier said to me
D
better say your prayers boy
Am
we`re in dangerous territory
C
where the bullets fly
G
all day long
D
stubborn resistance and commitment strong
Am
it`s not our place to be
Em                    Am
it`s not our country
C
but we go where we are sent
G
because it`s our job
D
it`s often said
C
although this doesn`t make much  sense
Am                                                 Em
where the bombs fall and the fires burn
Am
it`s not our country
E                           Am
it`s not our place to be

I must admit that I find the music stand a bit embarrassing at times but having performed sets of over four hours when we were a resident band in Greece it became a necessity as some times I would be asked to perform certain songs that I didn't really know only hours before the big so reading and playing something became regular. Most of the other acts on the circuit did the same ,however back here in the UK I feel it is something that does detract from a performance but as I am now  nearly 68 and just playing for fun I just get over it and do it.Some of my associates use iPad but I just don't trust it.LoL
