Vic, All great comments here. hummin n strumming I totally agree. You took the words right out of my mouth. I've been there and to get through played for myself or I found that one person who was listening. That one person will get you through and probably give you uplifting feedback at the end of the night.
Just stick with it and have fun.

Bluejeep said it best . If the pro can use prompters I think we can use music sheets and stands.

I used to have 5 hours of songs I could play off the top of my head. I just had a list and what key I did the song in and if I used a capo. Now I do 3 different types of gigs. With so much material I need to have music for two of them, mostly as a crutch because I go from guitar to mandolin to lap guitar. I don't need it for all the songs but I still need it. Oh yeah I'm not as young as I once was. Sometimes I think  I have too much on my plate. I never had anyone complain about it.
One other thing. I have songs that I bring just in case someone requests something  I don't normally play. I make it a challenge to myself. It makes me step up my game. I've been playing for years and take my music very serious for my audience. I want the best for them and I've played years for the same people.
The last thing I can say is if you bring music along or you don't, just do your best and have as much fun as you can and no one will care . Your audience will love you either way.

Bill, Mine did have a steel reinforced neck. It had a little decal on the headstock that mentioned it. I don't know if it was adjustable though . If it was adjustable it would have been thru the sound hole as the headstock didn't have a removable cover. I didn't know enough at the time what that meant . I know Martin didn't have adjustable truss rods until 1974. Because of the cost of neck repairs the ones I play regularly all need to have adjustable truss rods.

My first guitar was a Harmony , Stella in Sunburst. My dad didn't want me to spend a lot since he didn't think I'd stay with it. The fretboard was just stained over wood, no rosewood or maple. I wore the stain off the fretboard in a lot of places before I gave it away. Here it is 50 years later and I've been thru about 30 different guitars and thousands of dollars. But I'm still playing and loving the journey.
Thanks for the memories.

Russell, I liked the sounds on the C9 pedal better than the B9 pedal. You should have hours of fun with that.
Sounds like a good investment to me.

I watched the video from PRS, man that axe sounds great.  I also check Youtube videos for reviews. But you still have to get your hands on one to know for sure. Enjoy the journey.

Russell, Glad to see you are such a caring and giving person. Not many people can see the need to give these homeless instruments a good home. All they want to do is give joy and happiness to their human friends.  ROCK ON DUDE!!!!!!!

UncleJoe,  Good choice. Congrats !!! Now you don't have to second guess the neck repair. Looks great, always loved the Gibson's. I had a 64 SG at one time. Enjoy the journey.

Uncle Joe, another option is to try to talk the guy down a little more. Tell him your concerns and why you are unsure of the repair. Check out the cost of replacing the neck , New or used if you can find one. The repair may last longer than you expect and you could sock away some money for a new neck. FYI- I replaced the neck on my Taylor 310ce for $700. That was more than I wanted to spend but repair was not an option and I really like the guitar. If you really like the SG do a little research. Good idea to ask for opinions.

Russell, Looks very cool, I bet it sounds just as good. Do you ever have to adjust the neck or intonation when you build these ? Been thinking about doing one but I'm hung up on the neck issues.

Toasty, I don't know if there is a time limit. Most songs written for air play tend to be 3-3 1/2 minutes. That doesn't always allow you to tell your story. Mine tend to be 3-4 minutes though I have written a couple 6-7 minutes. They just turned out that way. Your audience will be the test. If they lose the connection with you then yes it's probably too long. Many audiences need short songs with repetitive hook lines to keep them interested. Most people don't really listen to the story being told , they just like the hook lines. That's the hardest part for a songwriter, keeping it short and having the hook and still get your feelings accepted. Just keep writing and telling your story. Great question.

flester, I use a couple pedals for my lap steel. I use a Moore overdrive, Moore compressor and a Volume pedal. Settings to where you think it sounds best for your style of playing. I sometimes mix overdrive and volume pedals. Always use compressor. This is how mine is setup, lap to compressor to overdrive to volume to amp. Volume will give you a steel guitar effect, overdrive kind of gritty. Compressor just mellows it all out.
That's my setup.

Grah1, interesting. Deep things going on here. I like it, I like it when writers get deep into the story they tell.
Things like this get into our mind and sometimes it has to be told in a song. Great job. Keep writing.

Cam, Cool Bird Houses. The taller one has a Hobbit kind of feel for me. Trailer one pretty cool, never seen one like those before. My hobby, riding horses and cowboying a bit. Playing out in clubs but sometimes more work than hobby.

Jets, Great song, brings back lots of memories. Now it fits for the grandkids.  I like the way you keep cranking out your songs. Have you noticed the more you write the easier it becomes and the better your songs become. It's a real pleasure when you get a keeper like this.
