I'm wondering how to set the "action" on your guitar lower without having to pay someone to do it. I'm a student who is chronically short of funds. Any ideas?

I suggest you have it done if you can't do it yourself. It makes all the difference in the world... but yeah, you hate to pay too much.

Thanks Cat!! Do you know where I could find an Arpeggio chart. I've surfed around but can't find any on the internet. Maybe I've overlooked it... You're right about scales getting boring... *sigh* ...I can't wait to run either. smile

Play it in C, which is just cruel and humorous because that would put the F chord right on the line that you can't make an F chord.

Haha, Great plan!

A/C# I think is what gave my such a bad mood... Haha! I was learnigng Mama's Song (Underwood). Never got it mastered...

Haha! Thanks Zurf. I'll look more into Arp's. Things do sound smart in Italian, don't they? Or French... For some reason, Hillbilly talk doesn't impress people the same way... smile
Thanks Amy! My feelings and thoughts are pretty lame though....

Fingers crampin'
Strings still dampened
Can't make an F chord
Don't forget to learn the fret board

Yeah, that's a great rap! lol

I'm surprised that no one has addressed the importance of arpeggios and vertical thinking to develop theory knowledge. So....do that too. wink

Haha! I don't even know what arpeggios are... but willing to learn.  smile

Thanks Zurf. So probably I should run my scales and then (if I feel like it ... smile   ) learn theory.

Haha, Thanks Kenny!

Okay, so next step equals:

Write music and Learn neck via scales

Sounds simple. smile

One more question: How important is learning theory? And will some of it just come naturally the more I play?

Thanks so  much!

Hey Guys,
Thanks so much for the advice. I'll start putting it to use. I guess I have to keep it up with those wonderful scales... *thumbs down* Haha! Oh, well. If it helps. smile I've been playing for 1.5 years, Zguitar, so no I'm no pro. (I hope my first post didn't sound like I thought I was great or something...)  I really love playing all types of music. Especially enjoy fingerstyle, Arkady. Love to listen and play Country. Also would like to learn more Blues.
So with scales, am I learning the neck, or is there more to it? I know my questions are elementary... sorry.
Zurf, Jerome, Ben and Amy: What do I write? Like songs? Cause I'm not that good yet...

So I know quite a few chords. Not all, but I can play most songs. What do I learn now? I know a lot of people will say to learn scales, so I've been working on that, but I can't see a huge point... Anyway, any advice appreciated. smile

Haha! It's so simple I don't know that you could even call it a solo. But it's easy and sounds okay. Hope he likes it. smile

Okay, got that solo... This is just something I put together not official, hehe. Nice if there's two instruments.

Alrighty, first go find their video on youtube. that'll help while I explain where and when to play the solo. At the end of the third "sharp knife of a short life, well I've had just enough time" (on their yt video it's at about 2:00 [It's when she goes up on "time"].)

e    25-5320-020 0               Then play again.
B  3                  3 30
G
D
A
E

Then after you sing "funny when you're dead how people start listenin" (At about 2:41) you play:

e  25-5320-
B
G
D
A
E

Play around with it. It's pretty fun. I know it's not exactly right, Just what I thought sounded good. smile

Haha! I definitely know what you mean about barre chords. But the way I did my Bm4 wasn't barred. I thought that was how then showed it at cowboy lyrics... maybe not. I prolly read wrong. Anyway, great song I wrote out a solo part for it too. I'll try to get it up here.

Hey FN! Love this song! Play it all the time. the way I play it is in G I believe so I'll give you the chords for that or I saw a good youtube video on it I think played in A. The song is super easy. Pull up the music video and play along with them that will help with timing. Good luck!

How Great Thou Art the way Vince Gill played it with Amy Grant (I think it's her), which I think is the same way he played for Carrie Underwood. Having fun with it smile.

Brand new. I started playing a year ago, so I should be okay I guess, but... *sighs* ...I've got a long way to go.

Thanks everybody for your help!

I'm still a little confused at how scales and the solo of a song are connected (I know that's probably a no-brainer for most of y'all). Does anyone know of a site or something out there that might help me understand it?
