I found a song on YouTube called "Raised by the Railroad LINE" (not tracks).

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QosU9bORaU4

But I can't find the chords anywhere.  If that's the one you are looking for, it doesn't sound to difficult.  If you are still watching this thread and still need the chords, shout back and I might be able to pick them out for you.

Rick:  Allow me to be the second person to thank you for your service to our country.

And let me APOLOGIZE to you, that I am ONLY the second person to thank you for your service to our country.

That is nothing short of shameful.  We should never take such things for granted.  The VA is a good organization which IMO should be better funded.  Glad you're getting what you need from it.

Try this:

The specific song you asked about is pretty highly rated on that site.  I've never heard it so I can't say whether it's accurate:

Good luck!

OK.  Much better.  I was seriously (and honestly) confused.

I recall seeing something like this for sale some 40 years ago on a late-night TV commercial, but don't remember what it was called.  Maybe this was it.

No offense, but the best invention EVER?

Really?

Yeah.  Because that's SO you.
Fo' shizzle.

I got this one.  Since you like the song so much, and since we like hearing you play it, how about simply:

"Creep"

It's sure to leave all the newbies guessing.

smile  I WIN!

It might be a good thing I'm not a moderator.  Feel free to use it.  smile

Russ:  Delete the link if you want to.  I got it.

Jem:

The song is in Bb.  To make it easier to play, put a capo on fret 3.  This is what I hear:

(G) stop
(Em) look
(Am) listen
(D) you
(G) find

(B7) buy
(Em) lic-
(B7) driv-
(Em) jel-
(B7) but
(Em) at
(Am) or
(D) tires

(G) list-
(Em) while
(Am) tell

If it's not right, it's close.  Good luck.

Hi Jem and welcome to the forum.

Do you have a link to a recording of the song?

It's in the key of G.  Difficult to mimic the sound of the piano on the fretboard because there are a few variations in some of the notes of the chords from time to time.  However, I think this is the basic structure of the song:

G (320003)
Gmaj7 (320002 - I think the piano is actually playing an F# in the bass, so you could try 220002)
G (as 32003x) - not 100% sure about this.  Sounds like it might be a minor chord, but if so I can't find one which works.
G7 (320001)
C (x32010)
D (xx0232)
G (Gmaj7 would sound good here also;  take your pick)
G7

Bm (x24432)
Em (022000)
Cm (x35543)
Cm

D

Repeat that through 5 times and end on G and there it is.

One beat per chord (except for the Cm which gets two beats;  that's why it's listed twice).

Give that a try and see how it sounds.

Here it is.  Never heard the song before so I can't tell you how accurate it is.

Some people call this way of designating chords the "Nashville Number System".  Here's a short Wikipedia article on it.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nashville_number_system

Once you decide what key you want to play the song in, that becomes the "1".  All of the other numbers follow the notes in the scale for that key.  The 6 will usually be flagged as "m" because the 6 is the relative minor of the 1 (the key).

rotoiti is correct;  those whould be the chords for the key of G.

If you want to play it in C, then:
C D E F G Am
1 2 3 4 5 6m.

No, but in case you need it, there are a few versions of the chords and tabs here:

That link didn't work, so I used this one:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ys0aLmn4NWE

I can't tell which fret his capo is on.  Looks like maybe 4, which has me thinking he may be tuned down a couple of half steps.

I say that because when I use standard tuning and capo on TWO, this is what I hear:
D (2 beats)
G (2 beats)
D (2 beats)
G (2 beats)
D (2 beats)
G (2 beats)
D (2 beats)
G (2 beats)
Em (8 beats)

I think this is repeated pretty much throughout the song.  If not it should at least get you started.

I can't find the chords either, but I listened to it (assuming this is it):

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q1j-_fPGSdQ

For the most part it's a typical 3-chord country song in the key of A.

The verses are like this:
(A) Make
[(A7) - in later verses they hit this A7 on the 2nd beat of the first stanza of the verse.  Example is at 0:45, where A is played on "worn" and A7 on "Chevy"]
(D) country
(A) playin'
(E) free
(A) rep-
(D) one-
(A) songs
(E) God's
(A) -ry

Chorus
(A) Pick-
(D) dev-
(A) know
(E) tail
(A) Lord
(D) fing-
(A) he
(E) let
(A) fail

The solo starts at 1:13, and it follows the chorus chords, except at 1:18 they put in a couple of extra ones (G and F#) such that it looks like this:
A   D   A   G-F#-E
A   D   A   E   A

In the second part of the solo they go off the rails between 1:27 and 1:34  Not sure what chords those are.

Anyway, best I can do.  I hope it helps.
