you cant go wrong with a Floyd Rose it takes patience but the rewards are there
Tenement Funster wrote:Russell .. you had mentioned other options to a Stetsbar Trem, so I did a bit of looking and found this new trem from Floyd Rose. It's a 100% surface mount that will retrofit a Gibson-style top without routing or drilling new holes, and looks as cool as all get out:
Here's a vid from Mr. Rose himself, explaining how it works, and how to install it:

My one preference would be to install locking tuners as opposed to his locking nut. Those things are a pain the pah-tootie for changing strings ... the Grover 106's are much simpler.
Cool thanks I will pass this link on to a friend who likes my Les Paul but is left handed he has his own work shop and loves projects.
As am I Jim so I am bringing my camera I might find a gem
TIGLJK wrote:Great Russell-

I would also like to wish all the Canadians a very happy Canada day I just wish we had a good leader at the helm of our government as you
TIGLJK wrote:I am actually looking to do one as well. The one I want is on back order so I have to wait.
Russell - haven't seen any videos of you and your north land pals lately ! Are you guys still playing and making videos ?
TF
Good luck
Some bad news on that endeavor our bass player started drinking whiskey and beer before we arrived at our scheduled 9:15 am rehearsals his playing went down the crapper and both the drummer and myself removed all our gear so he defriended me on Facebook and the drummer defriended him so the drummer called in another bass player and we start rehearsing the coming Wednesday at 9:15 am at his house so it all worked out for the better and I will be making some more videos of our jams
I am glad it worked out for you and looking forward to seeing a few photos of your finished project perhaps even a video

Sorry to hear that, Russell ...
I put a Stetsbar on my EP Les Paul a couple of years ago, and once I put the Grover 106 locking tuners on it's been very stable. I've also been using the D'Addario NYXL strings, which were (they say) developed for players who bend a lot / use tremolos.
I would be careful about selecting the Stetsbar tremolo mine is still sitting in the box and the reason is tuning issues there are other tremolos for about the same price that stay in tune.
I think it all depends on your skill level, all the parts are there and I would use them if you are not satisfied you can always replace them. personally I upgraded the electronics to Emerson pre-soldered kits with paper and oil capacitors and a zero nut is a good idea also I replaced my LP bridge with a roller type to improve string action less pinching then the V-shaped stock bridge good luck with the build and take your time with the finish and get it right.if possible have the guitar sprayed at an auto repair shop they usually are great at doing it right the first time.
Welcome, Diana, I am into Sci-Fi myself and I play guitar a lot and some drums (electronic) enjoy the site tons of great songs to check out .
A rope that reminds me of the Beverly Hillbillies and Jethro who used a rope for a belt. My machine has many sewing functions including reinforced stitching for leather it also makes buttonholes and sews the button not to mention it has over 12 different stitch patterns and the attachments Leather is a little harder but slow and easy gets the job done
Strummerboy Bill wrote:Strangest guitar strap I've ever seen was made from the girth of a western saddle. This particular strap was made from rope and must have been "customized" somehow or it would have been too wide over the guitarist's shoulder.
Russell, will the machine allow you to work with leather and would you want to?
Thanks
Bill
Our parents can show us quite a few things if we take the time to pay attention, some very useful life skills you learned that you applied to
a related field I find it very soothing and fun.
bluejeep wrote:The sewing machine brings back memories. My mother taught me to run a sewing machine when I was a teenager, she was tired of sewing ripped pants. That knowlege led to auto upholstry and classic auto restoration, Packards, Cords and Rolls Royces to name a few. I still enjoy a little time at the sewing machine once in a while. Have fun with your new machine Russell.
Yes it just requires another needle and a slower speed I have all the needles I need to sew just about anything, the straps I made have a leather type end on them and I had no problems.
TIGLJK wrote:is your sewing machine able to sew leather ?
Thank you! I am thinking about some other projects for the sewing machine perhaps a nice Hawaiian shirt for the hot summer
Jandle wrote:Well done Russell, very impressed with your new hobby and a very inventive one as well
Thanks Roger

Yes it should be F#m I have never edited any songs in the song registry perhaps one of the other Moderators can fix this thanks for bringing it to our attention.
Dirty Ed wrote:At an open mic I used to play monthly, there were several Taylors and Martins being played but to my ears the best sounding guitar was an Epi DR-500 one of the singer-songwriters played. Great choice Russell.

I noticed that when I compared it to my Hohner which I thought was full sounding and one thing I like is when I use a capo there is no need to retune and oh yeah one more thing the neck has no lacquer finish it is really fast and comfy
Dirty Ed wrote:Pretty cool Russell !! If you decide to sell some, that would add new meaning to the old adage "strapped for cash"
DE
I thought of that (selling) I think the cost of shipping (post office) would be very economical due to the weight and shipping container I would need the length of the persons normal strap so I could make them for each person then calculate the material costs as each one will be special, my own is 54" with no adjustments I also could add a padded feature for additional comfort that is movable. My main concern is to protect the instrument so I would include a washer(rubber) to place between the screw and the strap so the strap cannot slip off the guitar. if anyone is interested send me an email.

Cheers for that, but the receiver is going into either the amp or the effects pedals ... not out of the effects .. guess there's only one way to find out for sure ...
I still think you will need two sets the 1st is a send signal from the guitar into the effects and a receiver to send the signal into the effects then another to send the signal out of the effects to a receiver plugged into an amp.
Looks Great! quality and affordability are hard to find these days
Tenement Funster wrote:So first we had JJJ with his famous Bread Machine (R.I.P.), and now The Alien Moderator has a sewing machine? Seriously though, it sounds like it could be a fun hobby, and a sewing machine won't wake the neighbors at night. Pics please!
I only took this one last knight other than the video I put on my YouTube channel and it is a lot of fun when everything goes's right.
Good advice I have a set too
I decided to get a sewing machine today and make a guitar strap for my new Epiphone electric acoustic it took some time and a few snarls till I found out I was loading the thread in the wrong direction for the top and bottom bobbin so that is when I put in the included DVD and learned how to do it the right way. My project turned out just fine and I am going to make some more all in all a great way to spend a rainy day.

Las Vegas playing in the casino lounges, I don't know if that is the same bass player but it looks like him and if I remember he was kind of fantastic too
I have a hearing aid and earwax can build up not only on the outside but inside as well that is why most audiologists give you a cleaning kit that includes extra white felt rings and plastic domes that fit over the white felt you need to check daily and if you hear any beeps this is an alert that your batteries need to be changed

I've also wondered this - I've got a Line6 wireless for my electric and then thought, "this is no good, wires still connect the effects to the amp!!!" ....
Anyway ...
Cheers
