Could somebody email me a chart or something of the major, minor, barre, and power chords???? It would really be helpful because at my church, I am in two bands, and I wanna be able to play my guitar for both of them, instead of just playing the bass. If somebody could do that, it'd be great. If you can only email me a couple charts, that'd be fine, or if you could send me a  link as of where I should get these, that'd be fine too. I'm really glad that I decided to join such a nice community. Thanks for all your help you guys!

If you want another set of chord charts, try the book "Guitar for Dummies". It has a list of 96 chords, along with how to play them.

My next question is, why do some chords seem to have two chords connected such as A/F#?  Which chord am I supposed to play?  Thanks in advance for your answers.

According to my guitar books that is called a slash chord (because it has a / in it). I think Russ was right with his description:

...the a/f# means its an a chord with a f# root or you can put the f# anywhere...

at least that's very similar to the descriptions in my guitar books.

You could try copying the songs to a .doc file or similar, then saving them in a folder. That should work.

Plenty about Surf Music on Wikipedia.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Surf_music

I can remember reading that the term "Surf Rock" is incorrect, as Surf music and Rock & Roll were two completely different styles. Sort of like the Mods and Rockers were in the UK.

Don't suppose someone could recommend some Surf songs? I've been interested in learning to play this style.

I've posted this before, but my favourite song to listen to is "5 State Drive" by Less Than Jake.

My favourite song to play is "Lost & Found" by Feeder.

As mentioned by System of a Down in "Prison Song", from the album Toxicity. Definitely worth buying if you like political songs and/or Heavy Metal.

I use a BOSS TU-80 tuner. Costs about £17, and it has a metronome built in as well. It can tune anything.

Hey everybody! I'm new to this whole electric guitar scene and I need some ideas about how to become a good (if not great) player. I just got my guitar on Christmas, and I have a list of the major chords, I'm still getting the minors and power chords, but I need to memorize where they are and be able to change back and forth between them. Any tips on how you guys did this? Also, should I work on playing songs (from tabs) or work on playing the chords for them cause I am planning on starting a band with some of my friends and I need to know this sorta thing... if you can answer these questions to help me out, thanks!

I'm no expert, but I'll give it a try.

Power chords: learn the two finger versions first, then the three finger. (two finger is 57xxxx, three finger 577xxx, for example)

Major chords: try the twelve-bar blues progression. There'll be a copy of it here somewhere. It's basically three chords for the entire song. Sounds like the early Elvis songs.

As for whether to learn tabs or chords...that depends on which kind of music you want to play. If it's Punk-Rock or similar you should be able to get away with knowing only power chords, for a while. Once you can play almost all of the American Idiot album, you get bored of power chords.

Good luck.

How about Epiphone? I've heard they have all kinds of weird paint colours.

OK, I'm new to this whole electric guitar thing--got one for Christmas...love it and all that stuff.
When I'm being nice to the strings, no problem.  When I'm diggin in and smackin' them around, they seem to rattle off of the fretboard a bit--when the amp is up, no big deal, it drowns out the "noise", but if I have it at lower levels you can hear it.

Is this normal, or does it sound like I need some set up work.  I'm not getting any string buzz...but maybe it is the action.  It has a floating bridge, so it looks like I can just turn the little wheels to affect the action...bad idea?

What do you think?

Have a look at the strings. If the rattling is cuased by the strings hitting the fretwire, you're having the same problem I had.

If it's rattling in Drop D or when tuned down, then you're best off putting some thicker strings on it. I would recommend a set of Ernie Ball "Skinny Top Heavy Bottom" strings, but I'm sure some of the other companies make similar sets.

Not sure what you should do if it's rattling in standard tuning, but I think some setup work may be necessary.

ive looked at most reviews bout the tsl602 and theyve all been good. Just what i initially mentioned seem to be the negative factors of it.

I have an Ibanez prestige 1570 and a Boss VWah Boss sd1 and a Boss delay pedal.

I've had a look at the 1570. Personally I'd buy a new guitar (probably a PRS) with the cash. (That's just my opinion though, so don't pay to much attention to it lol )

I have heard that tube amps aren't that different to any other kind. I take it you get Distortion through the amp rather than a pedal?

If you've bought/used a Marshall amp before and you like them then that's a major factor. I know what you mean with the Ford/Holden thing.

Have you found any other sites with info about the tsl602?

As for wanting the Vai/Satch sound, have you got the right guitar first? I know it's an obvious question but it is important. You play the Guitar through the Amp, not the Amp with the Guitar.

The one I mentioned IS a tube amp, AND it has amp modelling.
From the features list:

Tube amps, as used by Santana. Even the cheaper ones might be out of your price range though.

I don't know the price of them, especially in $aus, but have you tried any MESA/Boogie amps?

I use amp modelling and I've found that the MESA amps sound better then Marshall.

I've got a pandoras box (KORG PX4D). Can I use a cable splitter with that and route it to the amp and the mixing board?

Dm

I know that the G2.1U has stereo output, so it can be linked to two amps at once. If the PX4D has stereo output as well you should be able to.

Are grover tuners any good? I need to replace the tuners on my LP copy, since they're playing up at the moment.

I used to play the same way as umarboy, until I started playing power chords. Then I found it easier to play with my thumb behind the neck, as it gives more leverage.

Since this is for begginers ( like me smile), I'd say it would be best to play it the "Standard" way.
