With every guitar some sort of jewelry should come just for this very topic. My wife tells me i don't get another guitar until she has another ring. That would be a great addition to any music store. I could see it now the jewelry dept right next to the acoustics

Who is the maker of your S101? It could possibly be better than a Fender or at least made by one of Fenders many builders. As long as it feels and sounds good to you it really doesn't matter what name is on it.

I appreciate the replys guys but i think i'll just save up an go for the Boss ME70 it has just what i'm looking for. If your looking for an effects pedal that you can adjust anything on it on the fly this one looks like a winner to me.

Re: Zoom 606 (6 replies, posted in Guitars and accessories)
Well i gave it a little test drive last night. It seems to be an ok pedal but i spent more time setting it up than playing it. I've been looking at the digitech rp 125 so could anyone tell me if it's pretty much the same or is it easier to set and play? I'd rather get a good one that i don't have to spend so much time setting up. The zoom does look and feel pretty cheaply made and really the it doesn't sound as good as i would've hoped. Can anyone recommend a multi effects pedal that is under $100 that I can bypass the amps and distortions but still use the effects and modulations and be able to tune each effect to my taste?

I have the chance to buy a Zoom 606 multi effects pedal for $30 from a guy i work with. I've never seen or heard anything about zoom products before.I do get to try it out first though. Does anyone know if this is a good buy or have any feedback on this product? It's still got the price stickers on it showing that it was once worth $125 but i don't really know how old it is. Any info or personal reviews on this would be appreciated.

Re: Harmonica (4 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
I've always loved the sound of a good harmonica and now that i've read this i feel the urge to give it a try. Which key is the best for learning blues and bluegrass harp tunes or does it matter? My uncles brother in law plays really well and i think he mostly plays in the key of C and E for blues. Do they make universal harmonicas for all keys? Sorry for all the questions but i'm trying to find out which one would fit my style the best before i go shopping.

Good for you Zurf. I have a hard time playing one of my acoustics with a strap because it doesn't have a top strap button. I guess as long as the strap isn't pulled across my fretting arm i do okay playing standing up and even walking around. My other guitars i don't have any problems because they have two strap buttons. Now all i need is a rolling music stand to hold my sheetmusic so i can remember what to play and when.

Re: Need Electric guitar hardware advice (7 replies, posted in Guitars and accessories)
Welcome to Chordie Iceman917. The Boss ME50 is a good choice but the Digitech RP series are also good multieffect units. All of them have many presets that can be tweaked to your liking and they also have amp modeling and acoustic simulators built in. Then they all also have assorted drum beats that are very helpful in practice on your timing and playing rythym. Some of the larger models also have wah/volume pedals built on too. They are worth checking out to at least get an idea of what modulations and effects you really want or need for your playing style.

Re: help teach a 6yr old! (13 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
I show my 13 yr old son how to play chords by using a chord chart. If i could just get him to be patient through the break in period he could learn. He wants to give up after just a few minutes of practice. I finally just told him to study the chord charts and how to use it on his spare time. He was just given a 1950 something model Silvertone from his granddad and he really wants to play it the way i do but he just don't understand that he has to learn the basics first. I guess you really have to love the guitar to take time to learn and accept the fact that learning to play it won't be easy.

Anyway, I wont go on about that too much.
Zurf,
Very nice words you typed there.
I am not into remembering much and for memorials etc. The reason is because by the time I am 68 there will probably be some sort of memorial every day nearly. When there are too many the important ones will fade away with the rest no matter how hard people try to keep them up.But I do hope all your memorials you are having today go well and peaceful.
I was going to say I hope one day there will be true world peace but there never will be sadly, not in our lifetime anyway.
Ken
Ken i only put God Bless The USA as a memorial to the attacks on the USA. I hope and pray for world wide peace and blessings to all nations because the whole world in some way is affected by terrorism in some way or another. As for the peace we all search for it can be found in one's own self and how he or she sees thier surroundings and how we accept it. I have peace because i'm a believer of the great creator and have faith that God is still in control. As long as i have God as a protector and the sealer of my faith his peace is mine.

Re: how to store your guitar ? (14 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
I use all three methods of storage. I have my electric hanging on the wall. My laminate acoustic which i play the most is on a stand and then my solid top acoustic/electric i keep in it's case until a few minutes before i play it. I play them all at least 4 times a week. They are all kept in the coolest room of the house so i really don't have any tuning or any other problems with them. As for naming them i have them all named. The electric is called Heavy because it weights about 13 lbs. The laminate is called Jasmine because it is on the headstock. Then the solid top is called Woody because it's all wood and has a woody tone.

Micky as it was stated earlier in this thread your voice is like any other instrument and the more you use it the better you get at it. Well i can testify to that as truth. Before i got serious with my playing and singing i couldn't stand to hear myself and my wife and kids were running to another room. Now after a few years my vocal range has doubled and i feel that i have a pretty good singing voice and the whole family can stand to stay in the same room with me. Just keep at it and remember as long as you are happy with it that's all that matters. Then if you're not you could always hum.

Re: String Gauge (5 replies, posted in Acoustic)
I use Ernie Ball coated mediums but they do have a non coated medium light that is heavy on the bass and lighter on the treble. The guages are 11-54 i think. I have used them before and loved them but the shop i use don't carry them in stock. I think these will suit your playing style well and make your jumbo sound great.

Re: Need help... (8 replies, posted in Acoustic)
There's lots of good advice here. The only thing i can offer you is that a chord chart hanging up in your practice area helps alot. Practice every chord on the chart and like Zurf said plan out the song you want to learn and practice the chords to it. Then after you've learned the chords and can change to and from each one try getting the strum pattern and rhythm of the song which is very important. I would keep it at a three song max to learn at one time just to keep from getting them confused with one another. Just hang in there with plenty of practice and you'll be playing good enough to perform in no time. Another thing to remember to keep from being discouraged is if you compare your playing with the recording while you are learning it it will almost always sound different because you are hearing yourself live while the recording is tweaked and sharpened. Good Luck with everything.

Zurf 'm glad to hear you're okay but not to hear that you had the problem to begin with. God bless and good health to you.

Good luck with your studies.

Re: Wider neck 6 strings (8 replies, posted in Acoustic)
In my searches for the ultimate acoustic i have found that the begginer models of most brands have wider necks. I'm guessing that this would help stretch the fingers and train the hands for chord positions after you move to a more narrow neck. I don't know but i'm in the same boat as you with the large hands and fingers and have found a wider neck easier to play.

I always give a song a test drive bfore i even print it out. Then after its printed i proof read it and make changes to what is out of place with a pen. No matter how convienient or how high tech things can get you can't beat the old time way of doing things by hand for quality.
