I have unique ones actually ... to me a great solo isn't an awesome guitarist who blows everyone away ... the mood of the song, the style, etc come into play ... some of my favs are:

George Lynch/Dokken - In My Dreams
Jerry Cantrell/Alice in Chains - Them Bones
Chris DeGarmo/Michael Wilton (Queensryche) - Breaking the Silence
Adrian Smith/Iron Maiden - Stranger in a Strange Land

This is probably more for Russ or Doc or anyone who knows lol ... I know I see alot of songs I encounter as being played in the key of A, C, D, etc ...

What chords are in those keys?  I saw Rus hit on it a little in a previous post ... are the chords in them all standard, such as key of "A" contains chords A, C, E etc ... key of "C" contains the chords C, D, E, F, etc

Now is it specificalls notes or is it actual chords?  So if I play a song in the key of "A" the chords would A, C, E, etc?  I'm reaching here since I know those probably arent the chords in the key of "A" ... just trying to give an example of what I'm asking

Thanks !!!

I've been playing steadily since Oct '06 ... open chord songs I hit with no problems, especially on country tunes (I can play about 10+ without tab) ... I still can't hit barre chords to save my life but my power chords are spot on ... I can play pretty much hit anything that involves power chords ... some of the harder ones I've seen (stuff from Green Day) involve quick and fast changes so I'm getting the timing down on those ... as far as songs, it's about the same ... I can play a handfull of tunes without tabs (mostly Green Day, Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, Social Distortion) ...

I'm in the process of learning my minor pentatonic scales and major scales ... the pentatonics I know three patterns by heart but I have much more to go ... the major scales will come next ... I'm hoping in a few years time I'll be able to play leads but right now I'm just doing rythym

Very good lists guys ... especially yours Zurf ... alot of those I had forgotten about

I'm in the same boat more or less ... my Les Paul I use Gibson strings and they're perfect for it ... they give me the 60's/70's classic rock tone but are pretty universal with other styles of music (I play some metal like Iron Maiden, and heavy alt music like Green Day, Offspring) ... my Schecters are a different story; the GHS Boomer strings on them give me a deep heavy tone which is fine for the Hellraiser, but I want to try a less heavy sound on my Omen 6

I knew you'd love it smile  But I will say this, opt for another color other than white and alpine white (the latter I have) ... It looks beautiful yes, but the white pics up scuff marks, etc rather easy ... but it does give it the "I'm being used" look wink

Also, nice choice on the Schecter baritone ... I bought an Omen this weekend since I got tired of the headache of tuning my Hellraiser FR ... it was toss up between the Omen and the PRS SE ... but the sound on the Omen suited my style more ... but I will say that my next purchase further on down the line will be the PRS SE

I play "Bad" but I didnt realize he used natural Harmonics on it ... I was wondering why it sounded different compared to how he plays it ... now I know why!

Hey gnome ... I just play guitar but question for you regarding a bass ... what is a good starter bass?  A co-worker wants to learn to play bass and I wanted to let him know about a good starter bass ... he wants to play everything from jazz to blues to rock ... I suggested a Fender Jazz bass ... what do you think ?

Ok I think I'm catching on guys ... thanks!  I just wondered why they are used and how ... I've seen some tabs that show "natural harmonics" and couldn't figure out what they meant

Hey Tana ... welcome to Chordie ... in regards to what songs to play and practice ... it might be easier to know how advanced are you?  Do you know some simple open chords, power chords, etc?

For open Chords I looked to country songs when I first started out, like George Strait, Kenny Chesney, Joe Diffie, John Anderson, etc ...

Some other good ones are songs from Bob Segar, Tom Petty, John Mellancamp

If you want something heavier try The Ramones, ZZ Top, Scorpions, Offspring, Green Day, Judas Priest, Danzig, Black Sabbath

Those are good power chord songs if you have experience with them ... especially Green Day, Judas Priest, and Black Sabbath

Thanks Ken .... one more thing I forgot to ask, does Per have a banner they can put on the site with a HTML code so we can advertise on MySpace?  I know I've been wanting to do it for a while and it'd be a great way to get the word out on Chordie.

Hey Ken

I know before someone brought up about checking to see if songs you've requested to be added would be made available .. can you email that to Per and see if we can get that option?

Doc

I know everyone has different tastes, feel, etc in guitars ... this may not directly answer your question specifically but I know this; I went into GuitarCenter and wanted to see what the "buzz" was about concerning Gibsons (specifically Les Pauls) ... I picked up an Epiphone model (going with the cheaper option), went into the sound room and hooked it up ... I started playing it and wasn't exactly enthusiastic about it ... so I went and hooked up a Les Paul Studio and was completely blown away ... the feel was right ... the sound was right ... both were the same styles but there was something different with the Les Paul ... so I guess with part of your question, I'd have to say the "feel" has to be right for me ... 1st and foremost

Thanks Guys!
