gnr did a great rendition of knockin on heavens door, originally by bob dylan, the chords are the same, in fact the whole song is the same except for slash adds in some original riffs here and there. patience is a good one too.

good luck

hey all, i've been playing for about a year and a half and i've got the basics down, and i'm learning some alternative stuff, like finger picking and alternative chord shapes, and my instructor introduced me to chicken picking, when you use your fingers and a pick. i was wondering how many songs actually use this technique, and if it's worth perfecting. thanks,

ah thanx a lot 4 writing something other than a sappy love ballad, not that the sappy love ballads on here arent good, their just...i don't know, belittled by all the other sappy love songs, anyway thanx 4 keeping it real with ur awesome songs about poignant festivus and fat-assed sports fans.

i got a squier telecaster 4 xmas, and it sounds great, but the B and A strings keep going out of tune, there's not much humidity in my house (cuz i know that can cause problems) and i'm not doing crazy power slides, and bends or anything, any advice on how to keep in tune, or why it might be going out of tune?

thanx

its a very interesting band, my friend introduced them to me, just wondering if anybody has ever heard of them.

yes! in classical guitar they use words such as rallentando (gradually slower) and stringendo (accelerating)there are a couple of other fancy words but the main point is that changing tempo is a great way to keep an audiences attention, and add color to your song.

hope that helped!!

i agree with both of u... James i've never thought of writing that way (i write stories, and music, but i'm not confident enough to put it up here yet)

but usually i write the song then think up the title. but sometimes your title might not be in the actual song, like in a lot of zeppelin songs such as trampled underfoot, immigrant song, and black dog. inspiration can come from anything. my advice: when you come up with a title think of anything associated with the words in the title i.e. childhood memories, dreams, even definitions.

awesome! i love slightly twisted songs, like songs that make you smile + they actually make sense. all a good song needs is three chords (in this case 12), the truth, and someone good to sing/play it.

idiots guide to music theory is a good one, it doesn't have much about guitars in it, but it has everything you need to know about scales and... well music theory.

a better book especially for guitar players is everything you need to know about guitar scales, it starts at the beggining, and goes through all the scales, variations, and specialized scales (like blues and country) i also love that it has "studies" or little diddies that use a certain scale.

anyway good luck!

if it's well made and you take care of it, it should last forever. my advice, just keep it out of the sun, the rain, and away from extreme heat, and you'll have a friend for life

i just made the transition myself. its pretty crazy, just when you think you have all the basics of guitar pretty much covered you get an electric and there is soooom much new stuff to learn, especially since now its not just how you play the guitar that makes the difference, there's an amp with tons of knobs that open up billioons of new doors!! now i spend a lot more time on the guitar than before, you're right its addicting!!!

also try doing acoustic stuff on your electric, it can sound really cool!

i've never heard of fender carrying a satin strat, but my friend has a squier satin and it sounds great. its really smooth (i don't reccomend it if your into heavy metal) i know its on musiciansfriend for like 200 USD and id say its worth the price.

first find the tempo the artist is using in the song. then (while holding your guitar) move your strumming hand up and down at the tempo. (but dont strum the strings) then just find a pattern that sounds good. but NEVER stop moving your hand. rhythm always comes before accuracy. it takes a while to get used to constantly moving your hand, and you might feel kinda stupid but trust me its worth it.

dont know any specific ones. i usually just make my own, pick a scale and pick a position then just play around with it. if you dont know any scales i highly advise learning a few. they make life a whole lot easier

it depends on what music you like. some easy songs that i like include

bob marley- redemption song- G Em C Am

pink floyd- mother- G C D C

train- drops of jupiter- A E G D

theres lots of other stuff i cant remember. if you look at the public songbooks under super begginer or super easy somethin like that you can find tons of stuff

usually just finger picking. lots of little two note chords and stuff. if you know how to read notes ferdinando carulli has a pretty easy book called the classical guitar. i really like the book cuz the songs are pretty easy and pretty too. classicals easy to learn to. (jimmy page uses the finger picking style in stairway to heaven) anyway if you want anymore info just ask!

like bduffy said jazz is a good idea. jazz rock fusion is pretty cool to. also look into classical stuff, some of the music is really pretty plus the classical guys use some cool techniques too.

good luck!
