I'm looking for songs and chords by Native Americans, can anyone help me?  also does anyone know what the lyrics to By By Miss American Pie mean?

Check out the band " Blackfoot "

and here's a ton of information on Native American Music;
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Native_American_music

.....and regarding the meaning of the lyrics to "American Pie" here's a short explanation;

["American Pie" is a folk rock song by singer-songwriter Don McLean.

Recorded and released on the American Pie album in 1971, the single was a number-one U.S. hit for four weeks in 1972. A re-release in 1991 did not chart in the U.S., but reached number 12 in the UK. The song is an abstract story surrounding "The Day the Music Died" — the 1959 plane crash that killed Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, The Big Bopper (Jiles Perry Richardson, Jr.), as well as the pilot, Roger Peterson. The importance of "American Pie" to America's musical and cultural heritage was recognized by the Songs of the Century education project which listed the song as the number five song of the twentieth century. Some Top 40 stations initially played only side two of the single, but the song's popularity eventually forced stations to play the entire piece.

This is the second chord in Tom Pettys' " Into The Great Wide Open"

022000
021000<<<<<!!!!!!!!!!!>>>>>>
020000
040200

and the proper name( in the world of guitar players) of the chord is Emmaj7 or "the second chord in that TomPetty tune".

You guys are making things harder than have to be. Relax, smile, and enjoy the beauty of the guitar..........

Reminded me of one of the greatest speeches I have ever heard. I was attending NC State during Jimmy V's run to the National Championship. He truly was an incredible man.

Jimmy Valvano's 1993 ESPY Speech. "Don't give up, don't ever give up."

Jimmy Valvano is a true hero to all of mankind. Any person unable to mentally feed in a positive manner from the words of this great man is beyond reach from anything or anyone that is positive in this universe.

Thanks Jeff

Hi Jeff,

I understand, I think it's a big croc of manure, but I get it. Almost everytime I play out,  I play Bob Dylans' " I Shall Be Released" and dedicate it to Greg " Tater" Taylor. I don't go into details about the case but the song seems very appropriate to the situation at hand.

Anything new ?

Hope all's well with you and yours,
Toney

AWESOME bensonp!

It's so funny to look at the faces of the people in the crowd. Over half of them had their mouths half open and eyes wide open in total awe and amazement from what they were witnessing and hearing. Jimi is STILL ahead of his time !!!! I ain't afraid to say it, I love Jimi Hendrix !

Upon finding out that my wife was pregnant with our son ( a little over 4 years ago) she surprised me with a new Gibson J-45 lefty. I had dreamt of owning one of these fine guitars for over 15 years. The guitar, and our son is everything I thought they be and then some!

I'm one of the lucky ones who doesn't have to do too much persuading and convincing when it's new guitar time. My wife understands that I need quality instruments to keep the money coming  in. We do have limits though;1) I must not exceed one weeks gig pay on any said instrument, 2) and when a new item comes in, an old one must go out. This one is tough, real tough sometimes!

"Jack and Diane" by John Cougar Mellencamp. I'm pretty sure Tracy( and/or her marketers/producers) were majorly influenced by this tune.

Hi Tats_too and welcome Chordie.

Sounds to me as if your daughter is on an appropriate path to learning. As long as she is changing chords at the proper time and playing the correct chords, the 1 to 4 ratio will balance itself out as she becomes more familiar with the songs and more confident with her playing. The "shadowing" or "highlighting" she is doing with the guitar part is a very common practice in many styles of music. And perhaps when your daughter "catches up" to your son maybe they could learn a "piano" song in which the guitar "shadows" or "highlights" her piano playing. ( i.e. Let It Be, Lean On Me, Piano Man, etc) Congrats and big "way to go" to you for encouraging your kids to play music!

Good stuff Wayne, nice listen.

I just gotta add one more. Stevie Ray Vaughan with one his first guitar influences, Albert King. Notice that King is not only a lefty, but he plays with strings flip-flopped( hi /skinny Estring  towards the chin and low/fat E string towards the knee). I hears lots of Kings' signature riffs in SRV's playing.

Enjoy, and have a great weekend everyone !
