Very good words, MKM ... well put together.
I agree that trying to live without hope is, well ... kinda hopeless. So many people struggle with loss, mental health issues, disease, and challenges of every sort. About 35 years ago, I began the habit of reading through the Bible each year ... still do. Whatever a person needs to do to keep the inner fire of hope alive, and improve their own character day by day, is a worthwhile investment.
He can hire another nanny just like all his other kids.
He may not need a Nanny, since he already has a Mummy:
And so we bid a sad farewell, dear friends, to JJJ's bread machine.
It's quiet and unassuming demeanor was an example to all. It saw its purpose in life to simply be silent in the background, while numerous pics of guitar acquisitions dominated the spotlight. It will not be forgotten, and we bid it "Adieu et Bon Voyage", knowing that the world could use more bread machines like JJJ's. No matter how you slice it, a great disturbance in The Force has been felt.
PLEASE NOTE:
I removed my previous post here (a link to a Wikipedia entry), which was meant as a follow up statement to Phill's song. Upon further consideration, I realize that it was probably too political so have removed it. Chordie does have rules that I most certainly agree with, so I initiated this self-censorship. This is a great place, I want it to stay great, and I also would like to be a part of it for a looooonnngg time.
Let the Viagra / Cialis / Levitra jokes begin!
Great article indeed, Beamer!
He touched on how the placement of pickups affects the tone of the string, as well as the point of the pick attack. This diagram makes it easy to visualize. Even though the rate of vibration is the same along the string (affects the pitch), the vibration width is what affects the tone. The pickup is going to capture that, which is why they sound different when mounted along various places on the string's length. It's cool stuff to wrap ones head around!
Red with a maple fingerboard ... one of the prettiest Fender combos ever. Mark Knopfler and David Gilmour come to mind, when I see one of these. I'm not familiar with the Squier 51 ... it appears to have a Strat body, but the switching looks like a Tele. And the pickup config is different also, with an H-bridge and an S-neck.
Nice job, Russell!
It was a bit of an adventure, but I'm grateful that my Ibanez WD7 "Weeping Demon" wah pedal arrived today. Apart from the fact that I'm not keen on the demonic name it wears, it is really an excellent working pedal. I really love the sound variations available, from creamy funk (Average White Band) , hard-edged stuff (Johnny Winter, Uriah Heep), and tonal stuff like "Money for Nothing" (Dire Straits). For under $200 new, this is a terrific wah, and it's now right at home in my signal path:

Have a great one!
Steven Wilson "No Twilight Within the Courts of the Sun" Mexico City, 2012
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oyrat-wzytA
This great track opens with some stellar drumming by Germany's Marco Minnemann, with a cool bass groove joined in by Nick Beggs. Wilson says at some point in the concert, "We play pretty miserable music." Most of his themes are dark, sad, moody, contemplative, etc. - no dance mix or Irish drinking tunes! Apart from the obvious, he is a very imaginative song writer, and creates beautiful soundscapes that really suit his subject matter. This track is from the DVD "Get All You Deserve", filmed live at a sold out concert in Mexico City. Like or not, it's very creative.
Mojo & Tyson ... congrats on owning such a fine guitar! The guy who owns the one I played is a business associate, and he explained about the various sounds it could produce with it's pickup system, and the switchings on the side. And you're right about the neck ... fast and smooth.
Don Ross "How to Eat an Avalanche" (original composition)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wr5h6aq_y2Q
Have to be out the door early tomorrow, so am posting this early. I'm excited already about seeing Don Ross in concert in late-September ... I won't be sitting on my hands like this group is doing.
This might make a good photo for a Caption Contest. Mason Williams released his famous song "Classical Gas" years ago. This would make a good album cover for classical guitar renditions of rock songs, calling it "Classical Combustion".
Yes, a big congrats to Portugal!
It's ironic that Iceland played such a huge role in the whole championship. If not for their late goal against Austria, Portugal wouldn't have even made it to the final. Funny how such a small country played such a big part in the tournament. Well done, Eder Martins, and well done Portugal!
Everything seems to change as time goes on, in either its meaning or purpose. Some for the better, some not so much. And we sometimes wonder why others don't just leave well-enough alone. These are the thoughts your poem conjures for me, Peatle ... very nicely done.
Hi Bill ... great to hear from you!
I don't participate in any "social media" sites (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Pinterest, etc.), and only take part in two forums, being Chordie and a fly-fishing site. We lead a quiet, private life in rural Nova Scotia, and while it may be boring to some it's just the way we like it.
Two of my favorite fingerstyle guitarists are performing in Halifax, NS on September 24, 2016, Don Ross (L) and Andy McKee (R). Born in Montreal Canada, and later a student at Dalhousie University here in Halifax, Mr. Ross is the only person to twice win the US National Fingerstyle Guitar Championship:
I've bought tickets online for my wife and I, and we're both excited about the event. I realize there's not likely to be any other Chordians at the concert, but I'm sooooo excited I just had to tell the world!
Good song ... I really like Mr. King's customized "Flying V", and his technique reminds me of Hendrix.
Great choice, Badeye! I remember that this was one of those songs we always made up different lyrics for, depending on the situation. A buddy and I were distributing top soil (using shovels) for a new lawn years ago, and he started singing "Just a flingin".
Great review of your gear!
I agree with you completely, about a "bare bones amp" with external effects pedals. It allows the guitarist to preset the amp to a setting they like, and then change effects as needed right at the tip of your toes. And it's pretty hard to find fault with Boss gear ... very well-made and user-friendly.
I ordered this Ibanez WD7 wah pedal last week, and was informed yesterday that it's unavailable until mid-August.
This seems to be a common pattern when I've ordered stuff for the past year or more, whether it's tools (router), household items (air conditioner), car parts (tires), or music gear (wah, locking tuners). Most stores are focused on cheaply-made, entry-price junk, and won't carry quality inventory anymore. I hate wasting my dough on trash, and am happy to buy better quality to get better performance and longer life. Have we become so addicted to paying the lowest price, that we don't care how or where it's made?
Grrrrr ...
I got to strum one of these yesterday, and was overwhelmingly impressed with how it felt in the hands. No amp was on site, so I wasn't able to hear how it really sounded. Anyone own one? The MSRP for these things is $3,500 USD, so it'll never live in my house ... but it sure is pretty:
Some poeple embody talent on a bunch of different fronts, and Kathleen is certainly one of them. Great share, MKM ... thank-you!
Happy Birthday, JJJ!
So I just have one question: how on earth are you going to get candles on a cake like this?
