now, now, boys and girls -
When I was in college and had no money I used to have Spam and Macaroni & Cheese for dinner 3 or four times a week - I didn't mind it at all.
I actually kinda liked it. But then again I grew up with 9 siblings - my dad was killed in an industrial accident when I was 7 months old - leaving my mom with 10 kids and a farm to run. When you came to dinner you ate what was served - no complaining or you ended up with nothing. I guess that's why SPAM ain't so bad to me.
As far as ingredients - no worse than chicken McNuggets or hot dogs. While I admit that I haven't had any in probably 10 - 15 years - I wouldn't hesitate if it was on my plate.
"When you are facing hunger with limited means - pretty much everything looks good"
I love the Monty Python skit !
Phill did a recording of my song " Seems Your Heart's Gone Cold" and I put it up on Soundcloud.
https://soundcloud.com/tigljk/hearts-gone-cold
I can't express how much I appreciate what Phill does to my songs in words and do it justice.... so I will just say simply -
Thank you Phill.!!
Hope you give it a listen.
Jim
very unique - way too much going on for me though - I like the guitar tapping. Do you have to have a mic / pic up in the guitar just for that or does the sound go through the electric system of the guitar ( like a regular acoustic electric set up ) ?
I accidentally came across this - they are pretty darn good.
They dedicated the song to a Mr. Williams - but he didn't look like Phill.
Ever heard of these young ladies Phill ?
good one badeye
Mojo
really good man !
Townes is one of my faves, you did it justice and a lot more !
The Texas sound is surely only for Texans - and you got it.
Thanks for sharing
Jim
lol - that's very good
Hope Bill and Dondra smile!
Thank you Tyson
I'm really not a songwriter - just a guy that likes to wear emotions on the sleeve. That's the great part that I cherish so much about Chordie - so many people that have a multitude of perspectives - it allows for honest and real feedback.
I am so honored when someone likes one of my attempts at a song. I am surely just a novice, and I have learned first hand about the dire warning you give in your last line:
"There is one down side to writing good songs : the next one always has to be better." It doesn't always happen that way for sure.
Thanks for your comments.
Jim
ps HOW 'bout them PACKERS !!!
Phill
you know I don't mind
Dont get hurt doing it ! LOL
I had this song in my head early this morning - I have no Idea why. It has nothing to do with my life.... I was just empathizing I think
Anyway here it is...
Seems your hearts gone cold
[C]I think you and I both [Am]know
That our[F] love is passing [C] by
[C]I been trying to think of[Am] reasons,
and I'm [F] trying not to [G]cry
[C]Seems so long ago that [Am]you and I
Thought our [F]lives had turned to [C]gold
[C] now there' s too many [Am] stormy nights
where it [F]seems your [G]hearts gone [C]cold
[C]when I wake up now each [Am]morning
and I [F] feel the emptiness in [C]side
[C] I can' t help but think [Am]to myself
That a [F] a part of me has [G]died
[C]I'm sitting here looking at [Am]photographs
Got me [F]wishing for those days of [C]old
[C] but this can't be fixed by [Am]memories
because it [F]seems your [G]hearts gone [C]cold
Chorus
[F] you once said that you'd love me[C]forever
now I'm [F] finding out , that really isn't [C]true
and I [F] know that I can't make you [C]love me
But I [G] can't make myself [F]stop loving [C]you
[C]Now I've got sleepless nights and [Am]restless days
cause you're [F] still always on my [C]mind
[C]I never thought it would [Am]come to this
hard to [F] leave what we had [G]behind
[C] Now my friends tell me to [Am]move along
Don't [F] dwell on a love that's grown [C] old
[C] But they don't know you like [Am] I did
before your [F] loving [G] heart went [C] cold
Chorus
[F] you once said that you'd love me[C]forever
now I'm [F] finding out , that really isn't [C]true
and I [F] know that I can't make you [C]love me
But I [G] can't make myself [F]stop loving [C]you
I [G] can't make myself [F]stop loving [C]you
I [G] can't make myself [F]stop loving [C]you
I [G] can't make myself [F]stop loving [C]you
sad indeed - add Troy Gentry to the list as he died yesterday in a helicopter crash in NJ.
Tragic
Could this be the origin of the term - " Drum Roll please ?"
Methinks the hospitals should be donating a percentage to the chordie website since it seems we all have become such good patrons.
Bill the story was fab - lots of smiles in that one.
Sorry about the fall - hope for a speedy recovery
AT least it happened before this damned Irma hits your area an inundates you with H2O
and I agree with Phill - I need to speak with the emergency services at my ER - I didn't get any lollipop !
( I'm figuring the treated you special b/c you had Dondra with you !)

Might have to include Florida and east coast states in a few days

When I was in college, I always jokingly answered the phone in my dorm room by saying " The Incredibly Good Looking Jim Kenyon, how can I help ya ?" A couple of my friends that were girls made me a shirt for Christmas with TIGL-JK on it as a gift. When I post stuff on the net, including Chordie, I use the acronym mainly because I do not want my students to find it - so hence I often use the alias.
Jim
that's funny!!!

WOW !!!!!!!!
Well thank you for removing about an hour and a half from my Monday morning !
I could not stop watching these amazing performances.
You are absolutely correct - pick any one and it is fantastic!
The song they did by Toto - Africa - by far my favorite however. The simulated thunderstorm was incredible. I kept saying to my self as I listened with headphones - there has got to be some musical instruments or digital enhancement - but alas - there is none !!!!
I really love great musical talent - the orchestration of all those singers must've been ridiculous.
Thank you so much for sharing that - I am sure I will re-visit when I need a little inspiration or just need to go to a happy place for a while!

Kev
Kev - Very nicely done - you have an excellent voice. The lyrics are excellent by Liz and your performance is excellent.
Keep on fighting man ! A very moving song.
I wrote one about the same topic for friends of mine - this is a link to it on You Tube - performed by Phill Williams

Thanks for sharing your work as well as your courage in your battle.

So my strategy is - my wife won't notice if I just replace one of the older ones on the guitar stands with a new one and put the older one in a case out of sight for a while. Then it's a month or so later and when asked - " hey did you buy a another new guitar?" I just reply - "nah - i've had that one a while"
I recall reading a couple of lines off some guitar T-shirts that go.....
" Go On - Buy it - you can always get another wife!"
or
Dear God
Now I lay me down to sleep , I pray the Lord my soul to keep
If I should die before I wake, please don't let my wife sell the guitars for what I told her I paid for them!
But seriously - my wife is very understanding and as long its bought with money that I stashed from odd jobs I've done or coaching pay - she really doesn't care - besides that - the value of her shoes collection is more than my guitars I fancy.
My biggest wish is that my guitar playing ability was equal to the quality of my guitars and heaven knows if it was - I too would be a true guitaraholic as well.
If guitar stores made a rule that you have demonstrate excellent ability before they could sell it to you I would be SOL !
Cheers and good health to everyone

That is a great observation - must be why I liked his artwork so much (although I must admit the same as Bill - I really never knew or paid attention to his name) - I love paintings that make no sense or have conflicting components - they require you let your brain get out of the paradigms its in -
his artwork on the cover usually reflected the creativity of the musical artistry of the sound within the album. Guess that's why he only drew for the best.
Thanks for sharing this great introspection.
Jim

That is hysterical - great tongue in cheek humor by your Dad - I love it!
Jim
Bill
I use the transpose to get me to the easiest way for me to play - comfortable chords. Then after I get it down sometimes I'll go back to the original chords.
As far as getting it in a range for my voice ----- Lmao - It really doesn't matter cause I can't sing for a hoot anyways. I'm sure it's important for real musicians however.
I use the capo a bit when I'm trying to get a certain sound - for instance when I play Galway Girl By Steve Earle I move it to 5th fret to get a Mandolin/Uke sound.
Congrats on getting settled in your new digs. Always a pleasure to hear from you and Dondra.
Best wishes to you both.
Jim
That's great Phill !
Enjoy the lavish time with your wife !
I am finding it very difficult to get a good night's rest - can't imagine what it's like for you !
Heal quickly my friend.
Maybe next year you and I can play rounders on bikes !
Jan
very nice !!!
Hope you heal quickly !!
