Time to visit the guitar store Nao, but watch out because if they don't have a huge selection you're going to end up overpaying.  Also, you could check out craigslist.  I've seen a lot on there recently going fairly cheap.  I paid less than $200 for mine new.  I can't say it's a great awesome quality, but it sure hasn't shown me wrong.

I started with nylon/classical, and I still have it.  I don't play it much, but lately as I've been trying to get barre chords down I've been picking it up.  It's a lot easier to barre, much less pressure is required.  They have an entirely different sound and are amazing for picking if you like the sound.  I like the much fuller sound of my steel epi dread these days though.

That is fantastic Nao!  Good luck and best wishes to your daughter!  The trickiest part is always the sight reading (for me anyhow).  See what she wants to do and enjoy it together!

Dad played his records and his guitar for us all the time, but I have a very fond memory of American Pie on the radio.  Dad bought a new truck (used - and dubbed "the old grey mare") and I got to ride home with him from the lot in it.  First, he drove over the curb off the car lot, which of course was super cool.  As we pulled into the driveway American Pie came on the radio and he cranked it up, parked the Grey Mare, and shut her off with the radio still going.  Dad told me this was one of the longest songs on the radio.  We sat right there until the song was over, and of course Dad was singing it the whole time.  I know all the words, and I always smile and think of that day when I hear it!

I say the Pledge of Allegiance. I love it. And I sing the National Anthem. Still sends shivers up my spine smile.

Singing the National Anthem sends shivers up my spine too!  wink  I wonder if it's a girl thing, a singer thing, or just a pride thing.  I love that song though!

Hey there Boozmizer! I moved your post as the market place is for members to sell instruments - and clearly you are still just looking for some info on yours.  If you do a google search for "fender monkey business" a lot of results come up.  I'm sure someone here in the acoustic section can point you into the right direction in looking for make/model/year info for your fender and going from there on price!  smile

Happy NGD!  Sounds like a nice pick... I haven't played the Taylors as the Martins call me in like sirens every time I'm there and lucky for me I haven't enough $$ to buy one yet.  I have a really little car though and I think the magnets they use work extra well on the little cars.  My Guitar Center is on a very busy road near many other stores and I try like heck to avoid the blvd all together but sometimes I HAVE to go that way and as always I get sucked into the store.

Sorry to hear you got bit Nao, but it's nice to know that the folks were looking for you and it wasn't just completely brushed off.  Toots, you're story is pretty wild!  I get very frustrated with people who don't train thier dogs.  A dog should never bite a person unless that person is causing harm (or intends to) to another person.  I have two dogs that will lick you to pieces if you ever come to my house... of course, that can be annoying too.  smile

um... I was a girl scout many years ago... and this is THE song we always sang:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=988YtYkjhg8  LOL!  I know that doesn't help at all.  As for camp cooking, I don't think I've ever used a dutch oven at camp.  Just take a slab of cow, add a little salt and peper and throw it on the grill till it's done (just make sure your grill is big enough for your slab of cow).  Good LUCK PIX!

It is absolutely beautiful and stunning.  If you do indeed get another and need to hide that one, I would take good care of her for you!

I've decided I'm blaming my guitar for the issue with barre chords... dang that is some amazing stuff!

Have you tried the old raquet ball between the fingers to help strech the tendons.  Oh and for root 5th's you can use 1 and 3 or 1 and 4 for the reach.  keep at it, it gets easier.

Hows the digitech treating you guys?

I haven't yet, but it's a good idea.  What I have found is that if I capo my guitar I actually CAN kind of do a barre chord higher up the neck.  I also can do a barre on my classical guitar.  Maybe I need to look into lowering my action yet again.

My son LOVES the digitech, I haven't had much of a chance to play with it... we haven't installed the software on my computer yet either, so perhaps I shall today!  smile  Thank you for the reminder!

As someone that started life singing, I can throughly appreciate the acoustics in a room.  There is NOTHING quite like it.  Give me a big ole empty room and I will stay in it for hours, I've done it.  In high school my favorite thing to do was stay after school and sneak into the lecture hall and just sing.  A lot of public bathrooms also have awesome acoustics.  I fondly recall a friend and myself singing in one of the lesser used bathrooms in highschool while we were getting primped for a musical as parents were arriving to watch said musical (we just had chorus parts).  We stepped out of the bathroom and there was a small gathering at the doorway just listening.  My mother came with me to listen to me sing a NYSSMA solo (voice competition -singing in front of judges for the purpose of being judged, as well as trying out for All County and eventually All State Choir positions) and she was blown away by the acoustics in the high school classroom I sang in.  Mom cried, because she'd never heard me sing in such an acoustic setting before.  When I switched bedrooms with my kids last year, I completely emptied out ONE of the rooms and brought the kids into the empty room and showed them this beautiful phenomenom of music... they got bored with me after a while and left me alone with the acoustics.  Me, my voice, a chair, and my guitar hung out for a good hour.  When my kids grow up, I might keep a room empty just for the acoustics.

I have a feeling Jerome will be here in a bit to let you know his opinion, and he's the one I'd ask those questions to.  I think ear training is an EXCELLENT IDEA... but then again, I also think really learning theory is and I haven't done it yet.  sad

Aside from fretting clean (which I really still don't do that well) getting different strumming patterns down was one of the hardest things I had to do.  I still have issues and tend to revert to "my pattern" when learning new songs until I get the chord changes down.  Lots of good advice from Z and Roger I'm sure.  Keep it up, and you'll get some different patterns going!!  smile  Good luck, and know that it's ... completely normal!

Welcome to the forums Dean!

Hi Kate and welcome to Chordie and the forums!  I must say, I'm mid thirties and I play more "old" stuff than I do new stuff.  We're talking, the stuff Dad played on his guitar.  LOL!  As for newer... maybe some Taylor Swift???  Good luck!

I didn't even know you could do that with a trombone!  I would have guessed it was some other instrument.  I guess they are a little cooler than I thought!  smile

From a parent's perspective... this is VERY COOL!  Here's hoping she keeps the love and respect for the instruments... and maybe she'll be like her dad and just want to play them all!

Good for you Jim!  Obviously you're getting good enough to make some strangers want to hear more, I'd be pretty darn proud of that my friend!

I very rarely recall dreaming.  My most vivid however were each time I was pregnant.  No matter what situation I was in, I drempt somehow that my husband died (in a very unrealistic way of course - like a hunting accident in our front yard next to the road) and I would go to sleep in my dream and awake crying.  I would awake LITERALLY CRYING, and it would take me a good five minutes to realize that it was just a dream.  I'm so glad I'm not EVER going to be pregnant again.  I can't handle those types of dreams.
