I kind of like how a totally open chord or an Em/D sounds when used before the D chord so I decided to use it in a song and this is the song I came up with. This song's about problem solving. In life when you have problems sometimes doing anything about it only makes it worse.  Other times doing nothing is the worse think to do so the real tricky part is figuring out when and how to act or when to not act at all. I hope you all like it.

Wait and See By Jeff Gilpin

November 11th, 2007

Intro

[Bm] [G] [A]

Verse 1

[Em/D]Wait [D]and see

What it’s [Em/D]going [D]to be

Some[Em/D]times [D]for me

It’s worked in my [Bm]life

In my [G]life

In my [A]life

Chorus 1

[Bm]Like the first time I saw her [D]standing there

[Bm]Waiting for us to pick her [D]up

[Bm]Was I all I could do not to [D]stare

[G]Until I’d waited e[A]nough

Verse 2

But [Em/D]an[D]other time

To wait would [Em/D]be [D]a crime

So [Em/D]then [D]you find

You need to [Bm]act

So you [G]act

Yes you [A]act

Chorus 2

[Bm]On occasions when we [D]have a fight

[Bm]Just like everyone else I [D]guess

[Bm]We repair right there or [D]it might

[G]Build until we’re an awful [A]mess

Verse 3

[Em/D]So [D]for me

These [Em/D]stra[D]tegies

Helped [Em/D]me [D]get free

Of differences in my [Bm]life

In my [G]life

In my [A]life

Chorus 3

[Bm]Nothing works for me [D]every time

[Bm]So I try and be versa[D]tile

[Bm]Action, patience or an[D]other course is fine

[G]Getting me though life’s little [A]trials

Verse 4

Now [Em/D]you [D]may see

What has [Em/D]worked [D]for me

Is not your [Em/D]cup [D]of tea

So go find what [Bm]is

Find what [G]is

Find what [A]is [G] [Em/D] [D]

I finished recording this song as well as a rerecording of Ayase Lullaby today. My friend, mentor and instructor, Mike Trella and I spend about 4 hours in his studio today getting it right. We spent much more than what I usually take but I think it was well worth it. Both songs are not quite finished yet they both sound great so far to me. Once I get them posted on my page I'll put the word out.

This is just a song about how thinking of someone special to you gets you through tough times as well as makes your good times better. Hope you all like it.

Thinking About You By Jeff Gilpin

November 9th, 2007

Intro

[G] [A]

Verse 1

[D]When I’m having a bad day what I [A]do [G]

I think about [D]you [A]

The [D]reason why is simple you get me [A]through [G]

Thinking about [D] you [A]

Chorus

[Bm]How do [A]I ex[G]plain it

I [D]don’t understand myself

Yet I know that it’s [A]true

No [Bm]matter [A]what I’m [G]doing

What[D]ever’s in my way

[A]I know what to [A7]do

Verse 2

The [D]car won’t start when I got something to [A]do [G]

I think about [D]you [A]

I [D]know it won’t fix it but it helps me get [A]through [G]

When I think about [D]you [A]

Chorus

[Bm]How do [A]I ex[G]plain it

I [D]don’t understand myself

Yet I know that it’s [A]true

No [Bm]matter [A]what I’m [G]doing

What[D]ever’s in my way

[A]I know what to [A7]do

Verse 3

Some [D]days I have no problems in what I [A]do [G]

I still think about [D]you [A]

You [D]make my good days better yes it’s [A]true [G]

It’s why I think about [D]you[A]

Chorus

[Bm]How do [A]I ex[G]plain it

I [D]don’t understand myself

Yet I know that it’s [A]true

No [Bm]matter [A]what I’m [G]doing

What[D]ever’s in my way

[A]I know what to [A7]do

Verse 4

[D]Some days I wonder where I’d be without [A]you [G]

And what I’d [D]do [A]

I [D]swear my life would be torn in [A]to [G]

Living without [D]you [A]

Ending Chorus

So [Bm]don’t you [A]ever [G]leave me

And [D]I’ll keep on keeping on

Out of trouble I’d get in[A]to

[Bm]With you my [A]life’s so [G]special

[D]So much more complete

[A]And why I [A7]always

Think about [G]you [A] [D]

Living in Bliss By Jeff Gilpin

November 8th, 2007

Intro

[E] [A] [E] [B7]

Verse 1

[E]Hey baby, sitting over there

Trying to act like [E7]you’re unaware

I know you [A]see me

And I know you know what I’m thinking [E]of

So [B7]come on over here

[A]Why don’t you give me some [E]love [B7] ...Then you say

Verse 2

[E]Can’t you see that I just sat down

I need some time so you can [E7]just settle down

But I just [A]stand there

And you say go on now leave me a[E]lone

So [B7]as I walk away

[A]You start talking on the [E]phone [B7]

Chorus

[A]What am I going to do to get through

Seems it’s [E]never the right time when I want you

I [B7]guess that’s the way it [A]is

When you living in [E]bliss [B7]

Verse 3

[E]Hey baby, sitting on the couch

I know that you know what [E7]I’m thinking about

So stop your [A]playing

And look up over here my turtle [E]dove

I said [B7]come on over here

[A]Come on and give me some [E]love [B7]...and you say

Verse 4

[E]How many times do you have to be told

I’m not in the mood and this is [E7]surely getting old

As I just [A]stare at you

You say quit standing there looking like you’re so inno[E]cent

So [B7]I walk away

[A]Get on my guitar and I [E]vent [B7]

Chorus

[A]What am I going to do to get through

Seems it’s [E]never the time when I want you

I [B7]guess that’s the way it [A]is

When you living in [E]bliss [B7]

Verse 5

[E]So I’m upstairs jamming away

Then you come up saying [E7]how was your day

And I say how do you [A]think

Wondering what you are thinking [E]of

Then you say [B7]come on over here

[A]Why don’t you give me some [E]love [B7]

Verse 6

I [E]think about saying that maybe I’ll pass

Then come to my senses and [E7]get up real fast

And come over [A]to you

As you give me that smile reserved for [E]me

I [B7]take you in my arms

[A]Thinking how crazy life can [E]be [B7]

Chorus

[A]What am I going to do when you make me crazy like you do

Just [E]when I give up is when you want to

I [B7]guess that’s the way it [A]is

Said I [B7]guess that’s the way it [A]is

Yeah I [B7]guess that’s the way it [A]is

When you living in [B7]bliss [A] [E7]

My wife said that for such an optimistic guy you sure write a lot of sad or bluesy songs. I guess she's right but I just like the way sad stuff sounds...not sure why. Thanks for your comments.

Driving to work today the skies were a washed out grey and I started thinking about Willie Nelson’s Song,  Blue Skies and how for most of us regular folk it’s usually grey skies not blue, both in weather and in life. So that is where the idea comes from and I hope you all like it.

Grey Skies By Jeff Gilpin

November 7th, 2007

Intro

[A7]

Verse 1

[D]Grey skies

Clouding up [D7]my eyes

It’s no su[D7]rprise

I see it all the [G]time

That’s just [G7]me

It’s [D]plain to see

But [A]don’t worry

I’ll be just [D]fine [D7]

Chorus 1

Like wherever I [G]go

I already [Gm]know

[D]Bad things are [A]going to go [D]down [D7]

Not much I can [G]do

But try to ride it [Gm]through

Until the day [A]blue skies [G]come back a[A]round [A7]...but for now it’s…

Verse 2

[D]Grey skies

Clouding up [D7]my eyes

Nothing but [D7]Grey skies

As far as I can [G]see

[G7]Rain will come

Not much [D]fun

For [A]anyone

Especially [D]me

Chorus 2

I could stay or [G]go

But even [Gm]so

Those [D]grey skies [A]seem to follow [D]me [D7]

If I jump in my [G]car

Drive away [Gm]far, far

Then I’ll [A]look up and [G]guess what I [A]see [A7]...just more of those…

Verse 3

[D]Grey skies

Raining in [D7]my eyes

Seems like I’ve had [D7]grey skies

For an eterni[G]ty

Make them [G7]go away

For[D]ever and a day

And make [G]them stay

Far a[A]way from me

From [G]me [D]

Thanks you all - The trickiest part for me is in the intro when you go from E7 A A7 to the start of the first verse... I screwed it up this morning playing it for the wife. Unfortunately I won’t be able to duet it until Tim gets to come back home which wont be anytime soon but I might be able to do both parts myself first so you all will know how I sing it.

Well I burned up my vacation time on a trip with my son so now I have no time left to go see him off. I wrote this for him because I sometimes have a hard time letting him know how I feel. My hope is that he can sing it with me someday down the road. I hope you all like it.

This is just a little song about knowing when to recognize that you’ve had enough for one day. I hope you all like it.

Call It a Day By Jeff Gilpin

November 4th 2007

Intro

[Dm] [Dm] [Dm] [Dm]

Verse 1

[F]Just one more thing

[Bb]That I must get [C]done

[F]And I’ve just remembered

There is [Bb]yet another [C]one

At [Bb]this rate if I keep [C]at it

I [F]might be here to [Dm]stay

So I [Bb]guess it’s best if I [C]call it a [F]day [Dm]

Verse 2

So [F]I’ll put a fork in it

And [Bb]bring the house lights [C]up

[F]That’s the fat lady’s singing

And I [Bb]will not inter[C]rupt

To[Bb]day my day is [C]done

For the [F]most part any[Dm]way

So for [Bb]now I think I’ll [C]call it a [F]day [Dm]

Bridge

When is it really [F]quitting time

[Dm]When is it that enough’s [F]enough

[Dm]Putting off for tomorrow is [F]no crime

[Bb]It just means tomorrow’s just as [C]tough

Verse 3

So I [F]turned out the lights

And I’ve [Bb]turned down the [C]bed

I’ve [F]washed away the day

And those [Bb]worries in my [C]head

The [Bb]clock says that it’s [C]getting late

What [F]else is there to [Dm]say

It’s the [Bb]right time to [C]call it a [F]day

Outro

Ironicly, I’m stuck inside today due to a cold I’m trying to shake but I did have to drop some packages off at the post office before it closed. That was when I saw it was just a flat out perfect outside.  So as an inside joke to myself I wrote this song. If I can’t take advantage of a day like this today at least I can use it in a song.

Thanks daddy
Thanks Roger - I tried it with the C7 and I like how it sounds with the F7 but it didn't fit the way I was singing it. I do think I'll use the F7 C7 together in the future. BTW something coming in your email (one I couldn't fit on my page)

Hey Emma - Roger is talking about the website link that shows up when you post here on chordie that right beside your email:

If you click on the "website" under your posts it goes to a different Emma on myspace is all Roger is saying.

Hey Lena - Very nice indeed - I can never figure why some folks can't be satisfied with who they supposedly devoted their life to. I guess it's men being men or at least human. I agree with you that it is a lovely melody and I would love to hear you version of it.

Thanks very much for your comments.
Daddy, I have trouble communicating with the Japanese/wifes side of the family over the phone without a lot of help from the wife and she gets tired of it after a while.
Thank you SouthPaw - I've never really planned it but sometimes the song just comes out like it does I guess. Glad you like them.

Reb - She likes that I'm thinking about her but you're right she keeps a lot she's thinking to herself.
Roger - I ran the Michiyo title past her and she wasn't too keen on the idea but I might just do it anyway
Old Doll - appreciate it

Thanks for you comments-
Jas - I already kind of promised my sister-in-law that I would record it for her so it's on my list.
Old Doll - My back was a little sore from 10 days of sleeping on futons but I was getting use to it in the in.
Roger - The good thing about chordie is getting to try songs usually unheard so I'm glad you had a good time trashing it out first, and yes that would be pretty much how yoshi whoould have liked it.
